I am SO angry。 I love this book， I love its characters， I love the way the story develops and I absolutely hate that women and girls have to go through this。 I think nearly every female has experienced some aspect of this story， not all to the degree Mara and Hannah do， but even if it is only unwanted attention that goes beyond a glance - that's biology， boys and men will look， it's hardwired into us， but anything that goes a fraction past that is simply wrong。 I wanted justice， but as I read As I am SO angry。 I love this book， I love its characters， I love the way the story develops and I absolutely hate that women and girls have to go through this。 I think nearly every female has experienced some aspect of this story， not all to the degree Mara and Hannah do， but even if it is only unwanted attention that goes beyond a glance - that's biology， boys and men will look， it's hardwired into us， but anything that goes a fraction past that is simply wrong。 I wanted justice， but as I read Ashley's note， I realized she's right， in most situations like this， justice is never had。 He said， she said cases are never prosecuted， anywhere。 So many girls who have experiences like Mara's internalize it and don't speak of it for decades， if ever。 What made me so angr is that the pedophile is STILL out there， victimizing other girls。 Real world， boys too， as we all know from the headlines when one is caught， but for every one caught there are so many more who never are， I can't even begin to guess at the numbers， I've no frame of reference。This is such an important book， it maybe gets a bit bogged down at moments because it is telling multiple stories， each important， each affecting other lives and relationships。 I'm so glad Charlie and Mara finally are able to be fully open with each other。 I can't imagine how Mara will ever rebuild her relationship with her twin brother who raped one of her best friends， drunk is never an excuse and even there， he wasn't drunk enough to not use a condom。 I'm just horrified by the response Hannah gets when is able to return to school after her rape another assault， verbal and coordinated。 THAT got zero attention from the author or the school， it deserved more than that。 Mara got suspended for her defense of Hannah which admittedly was over the top but the book never says what happens as a result of that assault on Hannah。 There should have been， needed to be， an all school assembly and more。 I get that wasn't the main plotline but it's important to not gloss over that because far too many schools ARE like that and that is where everyone can be addressed， taught and educated - together。 It seems that Mara and Charlie will have another huge obstacle to face， might even merit a sequel， in that Charlie is so talented that she's going to have a huge career which will involve travel and separation from Mara who is too talented herself to simply follow in Charlies shadow。 I would like to know what happened after Mara tells her parents what happened to her。 If that pedophile was caught and punished。 Men， because mostly they are， like that should be outed and never be in proximity of children。 Mara's silence， while completely understandable， also allowed him to continue preying on other girls， she SAW him with one。 It's hard to say she was wrong to not speak up， I don't know I would have had the courage myself in eighth grade， but silence allows the abuse to continue as we've learned through the MeToo movement。 Some men have been held to account but far too many have not and the punishments， largely， have NOT been in proportion to the crimes - women deal with the consequences for their whole lives in so many ways， while many of the men are already back in society working again。 And many more men never got called out for what they are at all。 I'm not victim blaming， I just wish it were safe for every girl and woman to tell her story and be believed。 That's the essence of this book， when they do speak， they ARE believed， even if legally not much could be done and not all males believed， the knowledge of what happened is enough， I hope， to cause boys and men to ALWAYS think of their behavior and what consent means in every situation。 That's the society I hope we're building toward。 I hope it gets here today。 And stays forever。 I think this book should be assigned reading in every high school in America。 I hope one day it is。 And many more like it because this is a conversation， issue， that will never disappear， will always be there with every new generation。 。。。more

Wow， recién termino el libro y la verdad nose que pensar。 La trama， la narrativa， los personajes， la complejidad， pero sobretodo la realidad con la que se desarrolla la historia me dejo moqueando fuertemente。 Es un libro que te desestabiliza emocionalmente pero que lo tenes que leer si o si， el final es real， no es perfecto， y eso es lo que lo hace hermoso。 La autoría tiene una facilidad para hacerte sentir lo que esta sintiendo la protagonista en todo momento y creo que， en parte， eso es lo más Wow， recién termino el libro y la verdad nose que pensar。 La trama， la narrativa， los personajes， la complejidad， pero sobretodo la realidad con la que se desarrolla la historia me dejo moqueando fuertemente。 Es un libro que te desestabiliza emocionalmente pero que lo tenes que leer si o si， el final es real， no es perfecto， y eso es lo que lo hace hermoso。 La autoría tiene una facilidad para hacerte sentir lo que esta sintiendo la protagonista en todo momento y creo que， en parte， eso es lo más atrapante。 Súper lectura que re contra mil recomiendo 。。。more

Mi problema con este libro fue que tenía las expectativas por las nubes， por todo el hype que tiene， y se me quedó corto， aclaro que sí me gustó， solo que no fue lo que esperaba。 Antes de contar mi opinión TRIGGER WARNING: este libro tiene escenas de abuso sexual y violación， por si alguien es sensible a ellos。 Cuando lo empecé a leer tenía el corazón en el puño porque el conflicto está muy bien planteado， al menos la introducción al conflicto， y en las primeras páginas ya sabes que algo pasar Mi problema con este libro fue que tenía las expectativas por las nubes， por todo el hype que tiene， y se me quedó corto， aclaro que sí me gustó， solo que no fue lo que esperaba。 Antes de contar mi opinión TRIGGER WARNING: este libro tiene escenas de abuso sexual y violación， por si alguien es sensible a ellos。 Cuando lo empecé a leer tenía el corazón en el puño porque el conflicto está muy bien planteado， al menos la introducción al conflicto， y en las primeras páginas ya sabes que algo pasará porque la sinopsis te lo dice， pero mientras avanzaba la historia sentí que el tema central perdió peso y nos quedamos con Mara， los problemas que tiene y el choque de sentimientos con todo lo que ha pasado。 Creo que la autora quiso contar mucho en pocas páginas， no se centró en una sola cosa sino que se fue por las ramas y yo lo que quería saber era la causa del trauma y la situación con Hannah， no los problemas amorosos de Mara。 Por eso， me hubiera gustado tener el punto de vista de Hannah y de Owen。 Me gusta como en pocas páginas logra transmitirle al lector todo el cariño que Mara siente por su hermano， yo lo leía y decía "ay， que bonitos" pero así como se ganó mi cariño lo perdió， y se siente el cambio en la relación de ella con su hermano， como se abre esa brecha y las dudas que tiene de si debería seguir confiando en él o no。Me encariñé con el personaje de Alex y me duele que solo haya sido el medio para un fin y no más， kind of manic pixie dream。 Entiendo que suele pasar en la vida real que se utilice a una persona de comodín cuando se atraviesa por una situación difícil y me alegra que se haya dejado en claro， pero siento que él tenía potencial para más。 No logré entender al personaje de Charlie y， ahora que lo pienso， no conecté con ninguno de los personajes。 Me prometieron que iba a llorar con este libro y no pasó。 "My heart nearly stops at the disdain in his voice， at how quickly I can become someone else， a certain kind of girl to him， just because what I'm wearing"。 El libro critica la sociedad machista y las etiquetas que reciben las mujeres por la vestimenta， me pareció un detalle importante ya que esta es una de las razones que utilizan para invalidar el testimonio de la víctima que si tenía la falda muy corta， la ropa muy ajustada， que no dejaba nada a la imaginación， y hay que dejar claro que nada de eso es razón para violar a alguien， nadie se viste para que la violen。 Deja en claro que si estás en una relación y tu pareja se aprovecha de ti también es violación， no importa el tiempo que lleven juntos y lo extraño que le parezca a la sociedad。 Cualquier acto sexual sin el consentimiento de la otra persona es violación， punto。 Al final del libro la autora deja una nota en la que dice que la historia de este libro está basada en hechos reales que le ocurrieron a personas cercanas a ella y me duele saber que cualquiera de nosotras/os podría estar en esa situación。 Quiero destacar que el libro tiene representación del colectivo lgbtq+ con personajes no binarios y bisexuales。 。。。more
