Summary

Darkness never works alone。。。

Nadya doesn’t trust her magic anymore。 Serefin is fighting off a voice in his head that doesn’t belong to him。 Malachiasz is at war with who--and what--he’s become。

As their group is continually torn apart, the girl, the prince, and the monster find their fates irrevocably intertwined。 They’re pieces on a board, being orchestrated by someone… or something。 The voices that Serefin hears in the darkness, the ones that Nadya believes are her gods, the ones that Malachiasz is desperate to meet—those voices want a stake in the world, and they refuse to stay quiet any longer。

This book took the dark, gothic vibe up several notches and I am here for it! So good! I can’t wait to see how the series wraps up in Blessed Monsters。

(I accidently deleted one of my shelves, so all the books I had on there got removed)Originally I rated this 4 stars but I no longer wish to bring praise to Emily A。 Duncan's books。 By all means read what you want to read, I am in no way policing what books you consume, this is just a personal choice。 (I accidently deleted one of my shelves, so all the books I had on there got removed)Originally I rated this 4 stars but I no longer wish to bring praise to Emily A。 Duncan's books。 By all means read what you want to read, I am in no way policing what books you consume, this is just a personal choice。 。。。more

2。5 StarsI rated the first book in this series, Wicked Saints 4。5 stars and really enjoyed it。 This second book however, fell far from it。 I'm not sure if it's because it has been a while since I read the first book so I didn't quite remember all of the plot intricacies or what but Ruthless Gods was a chaotic mess。 I almost set it aside numerous times and I understood very little of what was happening。 I can't say that I liked the characters either, and that's disappointing since I was devastate 2。5 StarsI rated the first book in this series, Wicked Saints 4。5 stars and really enjoyed it。 This second book however, fell far from it。 I'm not sure if it's because it has been a while since I read the first book so I didn't quite remember all of the plot intricacies or what but Ruthless Gods was a chaotic mess。 I almost set it aside numerous times and I understood very little of what was happening。 I can't say that I liked the characters either, and that's disappointing since I was devastated by the end of Wicked Saints because I was so invested in them。 I'm not sure if I will pick up the third and final book in the series, but if I do it will not be any time soon。。。。 。。。more

The first half was a 2 star。。。 would have been a 1 star if I wasn't previously committed to these characters。 While admittedly I didn't read this immediately after finishing Wicked Saints, and therefore forgot a lot of what happened, I just felt SO CONFUSED。 It felt like nothing was happening and they kept vague referencing what had already happened。 I enjoyed Wicked Saints so much I stuck with this book because I wanted to know what would happen。。。 but lordy loo for a while I thought nothing wo The first half was a 2 star。。。 would have been a 1 star if I wasn't previously committed to these characters。 While admittedly I didn't read this immediately after finishing Wicked Saints, and therefore forgot a lot of what happened, I just felt SO CONFUSED。 It felt like nothing was happening and they kept vague referencing what had already happened。 I enjoyed Wicked Saints so much I stuck with this book because I wanted to know what would happen。。。 but lordy loo for a while I thought nothing would。There is one chapter, one moment for Serefin, a little before halfway that turned the corner on this book for me。 A 5 star moment that made me glad I continued。 And the second half of the book, things started happening。 And I got more interested。 And I find Nadya and Malachiasz dynamic captivating。 So it eked up to a 3。5 maybe even 4 stars by the end。 One big pet peeve, though, personally。。。 heavy use in some chapters of not English with no (that I could easily find in the ebook at least) translation。。 had to kind of guess by context? I feel like in Wicked Saints the terms they called each other got explained? Maybe I imagined it。 Anyhow, it kind of annoyed me in Ruthless Gods and contributed to the frustrating feeling of having no idea what was going on。 I am going to finish the trilogy, because the concept of what is happening intrigues me and I am curious to see how it all shakes down。。。 but it is with some trepidation that I carry on, because I worry it will be another book where for half the time I don't understand what is happening because nothing really happens。。。 。。。more

i really couldn’t tell you what happened in this book and i finished it 5 minutes ago wicked saints was ok? but this had literally nothing going for it (except maybe the lore? like the god controlling serefin was an interesting concept but i Couldn’t Care Less about it’s execution) so。 i will not finish this series <3

This one was so much darker than the first。。。 and I loved it! It built on the lore from the first book and I loved what it created。 I love me some good world, religion (I don’t know why I always find a established religion in a fantasy book so fascinating), and character building in a series so this book hit in all the right ways。 Can’t wait for book three!

I liked the first one。 It was dark and different, so I was excited to continue the story。I DNF this one, and that is a rare occurrence for me。 It’s boring, and I no longer care about any of the characters。

This was extremely intense。 The book was action packed and very dramatic but it was quite miserable。 Some authors just relish in keeping their main characters in the constant state of anguish and that’s not what I actually appreciate in books。 I’m not really sure that I want to keep reading the series or at least not until I stuff myself with some feel-good books to heal a little。 I adore Malachiasz but I can’t help but think that there is no HEA for him and it kills me。 I can’t survive another This was extremely intense。 The book was action packed and very dramatic but it was quite miserable。 Some authors just relish in keeping their main characters in the constant state of anguish and that’s not what I actually appreciate in books。 I’m not really sure that I want to keep reading the series or at least not until I stuff myself with some feel-good books to heal a little。 I adore Malachiasz but I can’t help but think that there is no HEA for him and it kills me。 I can’t survive another darkling。 The book actually has some The poppy war vibes and it furthermore brings me this feel of dread。 。。。more

The layers and complexity in these books is delicious。 Betrayals on betrayals, double crossing and delighting in the lies we tell ourselves。。。。 gory and creepy。 If it were made into a show I'd probably label it as a horror。 But it's atmospheric and deep。 The layers and complexity in these books is delicious。 Betrayals on betrayals, double crossing and delighting in the lies we tell ourselves。。。。 gory and creepy。 If it were made into a show I'd probably label it as a horror。 But it's atmospheric and deep。 。。。more

My god, words can not describe what I felt reading this book。 The world build up, plot is amazing。 My heart breaks for Nadya and the black vulture。 They have all grown up from the last book。 What have they all done。 Some parts are too chaotic for me to understand。 I hope the 3rd book will clear up the confusions lol。 I have been in a different world while reading this。 Such strong words, such strong emotion it evoked in me。

I received a copy from the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review。 This novel was INSANE!! This definitely did not second book lull syndrome, which seems to happen often in trilogies。 This was a unique and powerful story as we continue on with our three main chracters, Nadiya, Serefin and Malachia。 And oh my goodness, how these three get so intertwined! I liked The Wicked Saints, but this book went downhill really fast。 I don't even know where to begin。 Okay, let's start with the writing。 English is my second language so I don't know how to explain what exactly was wrong but nevertheless something was definitely wrong。 So many words were repeated, so many scenes were described similarly。 I felt stupid at times because there were scenes that made no sense to me and yet the characters understood what was going on。 Like, how and would you care to I liked The Wicked Saints, but this book went downhill really fast。 I don't even know where to begin。 Okay, let's start with the writing。 English is my second language so I don't know how to explain what exactly was wrong but nevertheless something was definitely wrong。 So many words were repeated, so many scenes were described similarly。 I felt stupid at times because there were scenes that made no sense to me and yet the characters understood what was going on。 Like, how and would you care to share with the rest of the class?Speaking of characters。 The only one I liked and remotely cared about was Serefin。 His sarcasm was great。 The rest of them got worse。 Nadya was supposed to become strong and all powerful and yet I still do not understand what the fuck can her power do。 Like, it's just a rotting arm, what exactly can you do with it? Also, she needs to grow a fucking brain。 One minute she's like:"I am never trusting him again, he is a liar and he betrayed me" and the next minute she goes all horny。 I get horny but there is a time and place for everything。 Malachiasz literally stabs her all over with his claws while they are making out。 And not in a sexy way, but in a way where she almost bleeds to death。Speaking of bleeding。 I am so tempted to go through the book and count how many times the words blood and bleeding and bled were used because someone was bleeding from somewhere in EVERY chapter。 I started to roll my eyes every time it was mentioned。 Considering how much time these characters spend bleeding they should all be dead already。 Malachiasz。 What the actual fuck。 He has no personality to speak of because all his actions are not made according to who he is as a person but in order to make the story "interesting"。 He claims he loves Nadya then he turns around and betrays her and that happens a few times。 That girl is just dumb, honestly。 In every kind of sexual encounter they had he would back her into a wall, corner her, lift her chin。 Pretty much every time。 And then she would go weak in the knees and forget all the promises she made to herself。 Repeat this cycle over and over。The book was over 500 pages but had very little plot。 First, we are going to the weird caves。 Why? Fuck if I know。 Then the bad boy(and he is always "the boy", stop it already) for some reason agrees to join the group。 Why? Because。 Then they all go the weird place that is very fucking far away。 Should I mention that in the said place there is an actual pool of blood? That Nadya has to swim in。 Very on brand。 Oh, why we are going to this stupid place? Again, fuck if I know。 Weird shit happens and the book ends。 There you have it, that's the plot lol。 The gods and that witch were so annoying here。 Everyone spoke in riddles and provided no useful information。 I have no idea what the witch was even for。 All she did was say some cryptic shit that made no sense and that was it。 Like, Oh you little children, you know nothing, you see nothing, I see blood and bones and blabla。 And she claims one of the characters should have died and they haven't, so what use are her prophesies anyway。The princess added nothing, what was she even for。 Basically I really disliked this。 I should also add that I severely dislike those 3 new Star Wars episodes。 They made zero sense for the canon and that weird romance was stupid as fuck。 Actually, I would have liked that romance but in a different setting, not in my beloved Star Wars。 And as I was reading this book it was especially obvious that the romance here was supposed to be like that one, but it is just bad。 。。。more

Typical middle book syndrome。 Not much happens overall and I had forgotten a lot from the first book but I still enjoyed it, mainly due to the writing style and because I wanted to know the Gods' plans。 Not that much world building but what was there was good。 Very curious for the finale now。 Typical middle book syndrome。 Not much happens overall and I had forgotten a lot from the first book but I still enjoyed it, mainly due to the writing style and because I wanted to know the Gods' plans。 Not that much world building but what was there was good。 Very curious for the finale now。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 El problema fue meter un viaje donde cada vez u cuando entre ellos se hacían preguntas y preguntas que no hiban al caso y entre Nadya y Malachiasz se volvió aburrido como no confiaban, dudaban pero se querían, se hacían daño pero igual se querían, llegando ha ese final donde Serafín sufrió tanto por lo que le pasó al volver a la vida y tener ahora un Dios en su cabeza que lo soluciona tan fácil y sin tener ningún sentido, fue tanto relleno que la historia se volvió aburrida。

Well I listened to the last 15% of the book again。 I guess I didn't miss anything。 Nothing shocking happened that wasn't foreshadowed。 Apparently the stakes got higher? I’m not sure where to start。 It dragged sooo badly。 So little conversation, too much inner turmoil。 Real, progression was staggered and unimpressive until the end。 Too much detail but not the kind the reader needed to still fall for the characters。 “I just can’t with this book” I kept telling myself。 But I’m not one to give up so I kept on and just glad it’s over。 I’m not sure if I’ll read the next one。

I'm not one to do reviews, not my thing。 But can I say, this book was amazing。 I literally was on edge for most of it and was easily pulled back into the world though I read the first book last year。 It definitely is dark and I may add to this review in the future when its all sunk in。 But amazing book。 I'm not one to do reviews, not my thing。 But can I say, this book was amazing。 I literally was on edge for most of it and was easily pulled back into the world though I read the first book last year。 It definitely is dark and I may add to this review in the future when its all sunk in。 But amazing book。 。。。more
