Excellent science fiction comic。The watercolour illustrations by Dustin Nguyen slowly grow on you until it actually sets the tone in sync with Lemire's writing。The beginning is very mysterious but there is something about the way things escalate that gives me a feeling of focus, a vision of an overarching storyline - this tale knows where it is going。 I have not gotten the feeling of "Ooo let's throw this plot twist and that cool random looking thing to give an illusion of a grand tapestry of co Excellent science fiction comic。The watercolour illustrations by Dustin Nguyen slowly grow on you until it actually sets the tone in sync with Lemire's writing。The beginning is very mysterious but there is something about the way things escalate that gives me a feeling of focus, a vision of an overarching storyline - this tale knows where it is going。 I have not gotten the feeling of "Ooo let's throw this plot twist and that cool random looking thing to give an illusion of a grand tapestry of conspiracy and scale and um yeah remind me to explain that later。。。 Oh! What about that shiny thing as well??? It's the perfect mindfuck!" which is a stale plot device that is sadly all too overused in many science fiction "epics"。Suffice to say, I am enjoying this refreshingly original yet comfortable android saga - on to the next chapter! 。。。more

I really liked the premise of this book, specially because I love AI stories, and I love stories with child protagonists in a wide, dangerous world。 However, I was mostly bored with this。 Much of the focus is on the futuristic, interplanetary politics, with the characters, their feelings and relationships left in the dust。 While I do think politics can be interesting, it’s only insofar as it helps develops the characters and their story, which was not the case here, or at least not in a very sat I really liked the premise of this book, specially because I love AI stories, and I love stories with child protagonists in a wide, dangerous world。 However, I was mostly bored with this。 Much of the focus is on the futuristic, interplanetary politics, with the characters, their feelings and relationships left in the dust。 While I do think politics can be interesting, it’s only insofar as it helps develops the characters and their story, which was not the case here, or at least not in a very satisfactory manner for me。 And so, the characters felt more like tools to keep the plot going, rather than the beating hearts of it。 Most of science and tech stuff was throwing incomprehensible jargon in my face, too, and I quickly lost interest in it。One positive point is the art: it’s all done in watercolors, and the juxtaposition of the traditional art style and futuristic, sci fi scenarios was interesting, not to talk of how gorgeous the paintings were。 But that’s about the only good thing I can think about, that and Driller。 I will definitely not be continuing with this series。 。。。more

The premise of the worlds and the story are great。 The art is a unique take for comics but I think sometimes lacks detail and overall it suffers for it。 Maybe a touch predictable but it's done well so I'll read more。 The premise of the worlds and the story are great。 The art is a unique take for comics but I think sometimes lacks detail and overall it suffers for it。 Maybe a touch predictable but it's done well so I'll read more。 。。。more

3。75 stars。 I got into this volume more than I was expecting, and am curious to read more。 I occasionally found some of the action scenes hard to follow, despite how simple they were, and I think this is due to the nature of the art style。

Its a good start to the series and has great potential and is a cosmic space opera and the art is gorgeous and TIM-21 is an interesting addition。 There are so many mysteries though the world building can feel heavy but the characterizations are spot on。 。。。more

I think this would appeal to many, but it was not for me。 To much horror, rather than sci-fi, and I wasn't a fan of the water color style - I missed the crisp lines more often seen in this type of story。 I think this would appeal to many, but it was not for me。 To much horror, rather than sci-fi, and I wasn't a fan of the water color style - I missed the crisp lines more often seen in this type of story。 。。。more

A future universe worth exploring。 The art is less cartoon-y, more artistic with a water color feel at times。 There's plenty of action, but will appeal to GN readers who like stories with meaty questions。 Slower and a little darker than Joyride Vol。 1。 A future universe worth exploring。 The art is less cartoon-y, more artistic with a water color feel at times。 There's plenty of action, but will appeal to GN readers who like stories with meaty questions。 Slower and a little darker than Joyride Vol。 1。 。。。more

In a future universe where robots have been outlawed, a young boy "companion" robot named TIM-21 may hold the key to a great mystery。 Writer Jeff Lemire creates a detailed universe, including a sprawling galactic federation of planets。 I'm liking the story but am definitely not a fan of this sketchy art style。 In a future universe where robots have been outlawed, a young boy "companion" robot named TIM-21 may hold the key to a great mystery。 Writer Jeff Lemire creates a detailed universe, including a sprawling galactic federation of planets。 I'm liking the story but am definitely not a fan of this sketchy art style。 。。。more

The art isn’t my personal favourite (not a fan of the pencil strokes/slightly unfinished on purpose look) but it grew on me a bit。 I liked the premise and the writing so I’ll probably pick up the second volume。 Tim-21 is adorable and Telsa is pretty cool and badass。 Parts of it gives me I, Robot (the movie) vibes, which is never a bad thing。 Solid first volume of a scifi graphic novel。

。。。more

3。5 stars。 I enjoyed this but didn't love it。 It's one of those that I'll probably get around to reading the rest of the series eventually, without being in a huge rush。 If you particularly enjoy explorations of the rights and humanity of robots, this one's probably worth a try for you。Contains death, violence and one instance of torture, including a couple of minorly grisly panels。 3。5 stars。 I enjoyed this but didn't love it。 It's one of those that I'll probably get around to reading the rest of the series eventually, without being in a huge rush。 If you particularly enjoy explorations of the rights and humanity of robots, this one's probably worth a try for you。Contains death, violence and one instance of torture, including a couple of minorly grisly panels。 。。。more

Fine example of world building。Prime freebie。 Suitable for teens and adults。 Good color artwork。 A multi sided war between humans, aliens and robots breaks out。 A robot boy is the key to saving civilization, such as it is。The characters are ok and developing in complexity。 No really new ideas, but all are good tropes。

An interesting premise。 A little slow early on, but has a solid twist near chapter six that makes me want to see where the rest of the series will go。 Not sure when I’ll get to read the rest, but I want to eventually。

Restarting this series; I have volumes 1 -4。 A good sci-fi graphic novel, with robots and aliens。 The artwork is gorgeous。 There's grit, but it's also wholesome。 Can't wait to see what will happen。 Restarting this series; I have volumes 1 -4。 A good sci-fi graphic novel, with robots and aliens。 The artwork is gorgeous。 There's grit, but it's also wholesome。 Can't wait to see what will happen。 。。。more

I have had this sitting, unread, on a shelf for years。 I love Jeff Lemire。 This novel had a neat premise and ended in a super interesting way。 Luckily I also have the second volume, still shrink wrapped, also from years ago, that I will have to break in to。

4 stars This was an enjoyable read。 I think it is one of the first graphic novels where the colors changes palettes at least three times but like it worked with what was happening and the story being told。 The dark colors for present, white for the medical, and then the pinkish dream scape we got。 I see this only getting better just this volume was very much introduction and I still have too many questions or a full concept that a five star needs on my mind。 Highly recommend though。
