Summary

The world's been overrun by sadistic homicidal maniacs。 A small band of survivors crosses what's left of America, in constant danger and trying to hold onto what little humanity they can。

In the blink of an eye, humanity is lost, and the Crossed are upon us。 Men, women, and children alike fall victim to the mystery infection that makes killers out of parents and rapists out of lovers。 Ruthless, berserk, and evil beyond measure, these cackling demons spread their plague across the Earth, brining humanity to near-extinction。 Now, a small band of survivors make their cautious way across a deserted America, existing in a state of constant terror。 The only thing they have in common is their determination to survive。。。 but in this frightening new world, survival has a cost all its own。 How far will they go to stay alive, and can they do so without become monsters themselves?

Bloody。 Sexual。 Traumatizing。 The entire book is a mind f*ck。 Literally。 If you can't handle every kind of abuse and torture they don't look into this series。 Crossed is about an unknown virus that causes its victims to lose all morality。 They are similar to zombies but many are far more intelligent。 They live to cause pain to others and themselves。 Brace yourself for one hell of a ride。 Bloody。 Sexual。 Traumatizing。 The entire book is a mind f*ck。 Literally。 If you can't handle every kind of abuse and torture they don't look into this series。 Crossed is about an unknown virus that causes its victims to lose all morality。 They are similar to zombies but many are far more intelligent。 They live to cause pain to others and themselves。 Brace yourself for one hell of a ride。 。。。more

I’ve never met Garth Ennis, but based on what I’ve read by him, it’s safe to say that he detests people。 Which isn’t to say he hates humanity, and I can see where some may not see the distinction。Ennis, best known for his popular graphic novel series “Preacher” and “The Boys”, both of which garnered cult followings and have become raved-about TV shows, wrote a series back in 2010 called “Crossed”, which went on for quite a long run under several different writers, including Alan Moore。Much like I’ve never met Garth Ennis, but based on what I’ve read by him, it’s safe to say that he detests people。 Which isn’t to say he hates humanity, and I can see where some may not see the distinction。Ennis, best known for his popular graphic novel series “Preacher” and “The Boys”, both of which garnered cult followings and have become raved-about TV shows, wrote a series back in 2010 called “Crossed”, which went on for quite a long run under several different writers, including Alan Moore。Much like Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead”, “Crossed” also dealt with a small pocket of survivors during a global pandemic。 There are no zombies in “Crossed”, however。 The monsters in Ennis’s series are something else entirely。It’s unknown what triggers it—-a virus, a bio-weapon, a supernatural force—-but a large percentage of the population contracted something that appears as a cross-shaped rash on the face and a compulsion to commit any and all kinds of atrocity。 Unlike zombies, these creatures retain some semblance of their intelligence。 They just want to rape and murder and eat the flesh of their victims。Depravity of this level is something I’ve never seen in the pages of a comic book。 It is disgusting and nightmarish made all the moreso by some extremely graphic (and hyper-realistic at times) artwork by Jacen Burrows。And yet, as awful as some of the imagery is in this comic book, the comic book isn’t so much depraved as it is a commentary about the gradual death of our collective humanity and the many thousand small depravities of which we are all guilty。Ennis is a good writer。 It’s easy to forget that when one comes across a two-page spread of a family being raped and mutilated。 And yes, it’s gratuitous—-we don’t need to see the close-up of the father’s terrified face as he is being anally raped while his young daughter is literally being hacksawed to pieces over his shoulder。 It’s shock and awe, that’s all。 Which is, ironically, the point Ennis seems to be making throughout the series: We have become, as a society, numbed by the horrific violence that we see everyday—-mass shootings, serial killings, police beatings, storming of the U。S。 Capitol building, stories of rape and pedophelia, Youtube videos of people actually dying going viral while people actually “like” them。 Our worst and most vile compulsions and tendencies have simply become Internet memes。Ennis is simply pointing out the obvious: we are all capable of doing horrible things。 Anyone who says “I would never do that” or claims that their “moral compass” would never allow them to commit atrocities is lying to themselves。The sad truth is something I figured out years ago—-maybe after 9/11 or after Sandy Hook or after reading about the Holocaust or any of a dozen things: if you can imagine the most horrific atrocity, then someone somewhere in the world is already committing it。 。。。more

Essentially a zombie apocalypse without the brain eating and a lot more rape。 The focus on the group of survivors that grows and shrinks through time is decent, with some interesting little vignettes of the characters and their reactions to this psychopocalypse。 But overall it's just kinda meh and gross。 Until the end when it kind of redeems itself through the two main characters realizing they are slowly becoming the monsters they try to avoid and actively work back towards humanity。 Decent eno Essentially a zombie apocalypse without the brain eating and a lot more rape。 The focus on the group of survivors that grows and shrinks through time is decent, with some interesting little vignettes of the characters and their reactions to this psychopocalypse。 But overall it's just kinda meh and gross。 Until the end when it kind of redeems itself through the two main characters realizing they are slowly becoming the monsters they try to avoid and actively work back towards humanity。 Decent enough and Ennis more or less succeeded in the shock when nothing is shocking anymore。 。。。more

Heard about it this one and was told it was good。 Unfortunately that wasn’t the case。 The only thing this volume had going for it was shock value and even that quickly wore away。 Maybe some people consider outright meaningless violence in Ennis’ work as the the mark of a deep thinker。 I’d say those people are lucky to be so easily entertained。 This series is a cheap Christmas ornament, loudly colored and hollow。

I have read all parts of Garth Ennis' Crossed, starting with the original series and ending with 2018's Crossed +100 Mimic, and I can say that this is the perfect response to both superzero comics and the Romero zombie genre so beloved of immature gun nuts and fanboys。What's the basic story? One day in 2008 - this must be in a parallel earth - certain individuals in multiple (possibly all) countries in the world (although the series takes place only in Brutain and the Imperialist States of Amerik I have read all parts of Garth Ennis' Crossed, starting with the original series and ending with 2018's Crossed +100 Mimic, and I can say that this is the perfect response to both superzero comics and the Romero zombie genre so beloved of immature gun nuts and fanboys。What's the basic story? One day in 2008 - this must be in a parallel earth - certain individuals in multiple (possibly all) countries in the world (although the series takes place only in Brutain and the Imperialist States of Amerikastan) suddenly develop a。。。condition。 They become violently sadistic, develop a red cross-shaped rash on their face (leading to them being called "crossed", "church faces", and "plus faces") and go on gleeful sprees killing, mutilating, or otherwise harming anything and everything they can get their hands (or body fluids or。。。other organs。。。) on。 They're not zombies; they're alive, intelligent, retain all the skills they had when normal, but are out of control psychopaths who speak in a jagged red font。 Also they can pass on their condition to anyone whom they bite/spit on/urinate on/have sex with/possibly even smear with their sweat。 *And they are fully aware of this。*The result? Unlike the ludicrous Romero Zombie scenario, which in the real world would be taken care of in thirty minutes by any competent government, civilisation swiftly collapses, people revert to basic instincts, and reveal themselves for who they really are。 And they're no different from the Crossed, only they rationalise away their decisions, which are rarely less reprehensible than those of the Crossed。 Indeed, some Crossed, like Smokey of Badlands, Aoileann of Wish You Were Here, and Fleshcook of +100 Mimic, actually are far nicer characters than most of the normal humans they deal with。I understand that the violence in this series, which is extremely graphic, turns off a certain number of people。 Ironically a fair number of those same people will routinely vote for psychopaths who blow brown children in countries like Yemen and Afghanistan to pieces with missiles launched by flying death robots, but will either ignore or explain it away。 Their problem isn't with Ennis' violence, per se; their problem is that he pushes it into their faces, shows that, stripped of "civilisation", they're no different, and doesn't have the hypocrisy of letting them explain it away, even to themselves。Obviously, they cannot forgive him for that。 I can only say, as an amateur cartoonist myself, that I have often wanted to do a Crossed series, set in my own cartoon universe with my own characters Jihadi Colin and Jihadi Rose。 If Crossed hadn’t been copyrighted I would have done it too。 。。。more

I love horror and I have read some fucked up shit and I have enjoyed it but this abomination of a book is something only Ennis can churn up。 Is it good? Yea。。。for horror fans who has the stomach for it but the things in this book is just NOT for the weak of heart。 No joke! Crossed is harrowing and hard to digest in equal measure。 Graphic and to the point throughout, crossed leaves little to the imagination, often leaving the reader wide eyed and gobsmacked。Not for the innocent, or faint or heart, Crossed is a unique reading experience。

Garth Ennis wrote this and the artists were very good。 This is like The Walking Dead, but it is way more brutal。 One day a thing happens, a blast occurs。 People begin developing a crucifix shaped rash on their faces and they lose all control。 They do all they can to violate their fellow man and experience their most base inpulses。 What's worse is that they travel in packs, seeking out normal folks。 This story turns into a post apocalyptic horror story where nothing is sacred。 I must say this and Garth Ennis wrote this and the artists were very good。 This is like The Walking Dead, but it is way more brutal。 One day a thing happens, a blast occurs。 People begin developing a crucifix shaped rash on their faces and they lose all control。 They do all they can to violate their fellow man and experience their most base inpulses。 What's worse is that they travel in packs, seeking out normal folks。 This story turns into a post apocalyptic horror story where nothing is sacred。 I must say this and make sure it is known。 THIS IS NOT FOR KIDS!There are scenes here that are adult oriented in every way and strange, blood, brutal and disturbing。 It is raw and insane and yet it was well done。 The reactions of the normal folks trying to live and move through this insanity is the story here and the author and artists did a great job getting that point proven。 I have never read anything like this so it was as disturbing as it was relevant。 Was it a great idea to read something like this with the virus we are now experiencing right here with us? Nope, not at all, but when we go outside our comfort zone, we learn and make new memories。 This book is filled with discomfort, but it also has hope and promise and triumph。Danny 。。。more

I had high hopes with this given Ennis's other excellent outings : The Boys and Preacher。 Perhaps I was expecting too much? Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows have created a seriously warped, evil runs amok world, where a plague causes people to have a weeping bloody cross appear on their faces and sees them being utterly consumed by their base desires。A shocking and outrageous (triggers abound) portrayal of human debasement is tempered by an impressive analysis of the human condition of the people that manage to survive。 Easily, in my opinion, Ennis' most controversial work that I've read so far! Brilliant graphic novel by Garth Ennis about a virus that turns you into a sadist。 Extremely violent and graphic, the art itself is scary。 It's the story of people being brought together by a fucked up circumstance, and their trying to survive。 Garth Ennis finished this novel perfectly, which is why he didn't come back for the following volumes and I've heard they're not worth the read so I'm going to quit while I'm ahead。 Brilliant graphic novel by Garth Ennis about a virus that turns you into a sadist。 Extremely violent and graphic, the art itself is scary。 It's the story of people being brought together by a fucked up circumstance, and their trying to survive。 Garth Ennis finished this novel perfectly, which is why he didn't come back for the following volumes and I've heard they're not worth the read so I'm going to quit while I'm ahead。 。。。more
