Summary

The #1 New York Times bestselling author presents a new novel of a mother and a daughter, of ambition and romance, and of a traumatic past reawakened by a terrifying threat…

Adrian Rizzo was seven when she met her father for the first time。 That was the day he nearly killed her—before her mother, Lina, stepped in。

Soon after, Adrian was dropped off at her grandparents’ house in Maryland, where she spent a long summer drinking lemonade, playing with dogs, making a new best friend—and developing the stirrings of a crush on her friend’s ten-year-old brother。 Lina, meanwhile, traveled the country promoting her fitness brand and turning it into a billion-dollar business。 There was no point in dwelling on the past。

A decade later, Adrian has created her own line of yoga and workout videos, following in Lina’s footsteps but intent on maintaining creative control。 And she’s just as cool-headed and ambitious as her mother。 They aren’t close, but they’re cordial—as long as neither crosses the other。

But while Lina dismisses the death threats that Adrian starts getting as a routine part of her daughter’s growing celebrity, Adrian can’t help but find the vicious rhymes unsettling。 Year after year, they keep arriving—the postmarks changing, but the menacing tone the same。 They continue after she returns to Maryland and becomes reacquainted with Raylan, her childhood crush, all grown up and as gorgeously green-eyed as ever。 Sometimes it even seems like the terrifying messages are indeed routine, like nothing will come of them。 Until the murders start, and the escalation begins…

I got the ARC of this book from Netgalley。 I love the romantic suspense that Nora Roberts does 。 This one had it all。 I loved the slow build of the relationship all their life so when they get together it didn't feel like insta love。 The character build was amazing , the suspense was pure Nora , you know who done it but you are still at the edge of your seat。 I got the ARC of this book from Netgalley。 I love the romantic suspense that Nora Roberts does 。 This one had it all。 I loved the slow build of the relationship all their life so when they get together it didn't feel like insta love。 The character build was amazing , the suspense was pure Nora , you know who done it but you are still at the edge of your seat。 。。。more

So whenever I hear there is a new Nora Roberts book about to be published, I cannot contain my excitement。 She is without a doubt in my top 5 list of favourite authors。 Wether she is writing mystery, romance, paranormal or thriller she gets just the right mix of each ingredient that gets me hooked。Let me start by saying I love the front cover, it gives so little away, yet so much with the words "The first time Adrian met her Father, was the day he tried to kill her" I was gripped before I had ev So whenever I hear there is a new Nora Roberts book about to be published, I cannot contain my excitement。 She is without a doubt in my top 5 list of favourite authors。 Wether she is writing mystery, romance, paranormal or thriller she gets just the right mix of each ingredient that gets me hooked。Let me start by saying I love the front cover, it gives so little away, yet so much with the words "The first time Adrian met her Father, was the day he tried to kill her" I was gripped before I had even opened the book。 On meeting Adrian in the book I couldn't help but warm to her immediately。 Brought up by a Mother who is in no way maternal she is longing to be loved and finds solace in her grandparents after one of the most traumatic experiences of her young life。 Her Grandparents are amazing people and I so wanted to be a honouree Rizzo and have a special pizza made for me。One of the things Nora does so well it write about successful, strong women and men who are not intimidated by that success。 They are also always filled with amazing friends and family bonds。 This book was no exception, whilst I did enjoy the story line it wasn't what I was exactly expecting。 The romance for me fell a bit flat it didn't really build up it more like just happened and they were suddenly in love without much chemistry。 I also felt the suspense and thriller element wasn't as present as it usually is, in fact it only really appeared by about 80% and I have already worked out ho the killer was, so I was slightly disappointed that I didn't feel the usual trepidation I do when reading her books。 And from my initial perception on seeing the cover。I have to say the dogs were adorable and they kept me more entertained during the story as I got bored of Adrian and her exercise routines they totally name the book for me along with Papa Rizzo。Thank you to Netgalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for ad advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Many thanks to NetGalley, Little Brown Book Group UK, and Piatkus for letting me see an advance reader's copy of Legacy, which is one of three recent/soon-to-be releases with 'legacy' in the title。I thoroughly enjoyed this story, which starts when the main character Adrian (female) is only seven years old。 It touches on her life for the next ten years, and then the following ten years in more detail。The slowburn suspense, which increased as the story progressed, had me gripped。 This is the first Many thanks to NetGalley, Little Brown Book Group UK, and Piatkus for letting me see an advance reader's copy of Legacy, which is one of three recent/soon-to-be releases with 'legacy' in the title。I thoroughly enjoyed this story, which starts when the main character Adrian (female) is only seven years old。 It touches on her life for the next ten years, and then the following ten years in more detail。The slowburn suspense, which increased as the story progressed, had me gripped。 This is the first novel I've read in a long time that has kept me turning the pages, staying up late, and sneaking in extra chapters whenever I can。The characters are great, I loved them all。 But I did get confused with some of the gender fluid names, and I got a bit lost as to which character was speaking。 There was also a lot of head-hopping, which didn't help me either。It is a great tale, though, with a lovely setting at Traveler's Creek for the most part。 I'll certainly look out for more stories like this one from Nora Roberts。 。。。more

This was a great book of how Adrian found her own way in life, instead of more easily capitalizing on her mother's success。 What starts out as a story of a child raising herself with the help of a nanny, you can't help but fall in love with her, as she really starts to love herself, and do what she thinks is best for her。 I received an ARC from the publisher, but this review is all my own。 This was a great book of how Adrian found her own way in life, instead of more easily capitalizing on her mother's success。 What starts out as a story of a child raising herself with the help of a nanny, you can't help but fall in love with her, as she really starts to love herself, and do what she thinks is best for her。 I received an ARC from the publisher, but this review is all my own。 。。。more

2 stars out of 5ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review。It has been a hot minute since I have read one of Nora Roberts stand-alone romance suspense novels。 I really enjoyed them when I was in my late teens/early 20's, but about 5 years ago, it was clear my taste in books had changed。 I found myself relating less and less to Roberts heroines, and the majority of her newer books felt recycled, and tired。So, since this book was given to me for free, I thought I would give the 2 stars out of 5ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review。It has been a hot minute since I have read one of Nora Roberts stand-alone romance suspense novels。 I really enjoyed them when I was in my late teens/early 20's, but about 5 years ago, it was clear my taste in books had changed。 I found myself relating less and less to Roberts heroines, and the majority of her newer books felt recycled, and tired。So, since this book was given to me for free, I thought I would give them another try, especially since I found the first book in her newest fantasy series, The Awakening, pretty entertaining。Sadly, I am underwhelmed。The problem with this book is not that Nora Roberts is a bad writer。 Roberts knows how to describe a setting, and make you think it is the most idyllic thing in the world。 Also, she knows how to make a sex scene the prettiest thing in the world。 She uses metaphors, and symbolism, to the point where sometimes you may forget that 2 people are having sex in the first place。 It's not a bad thing, because I know some people prefer that in their romance novels, and it somewhat refreshing in comparison to how down and dirty other romance novels are。 However, there is so much fluff in this book, that even the romance is overshadowed, let alone the suspense。 This book is over 350 pages long, yet, I could tell you the major plot points of this book in probably a couple sentences。 Nothing really happens in this book after the beginning。 Roberts, as I said earlier, knows how to write。 She can hook you into her books so quickly that you won't notice how long you've been reading until you're 100 pages in。 That is because her first chapters are often her strongest in her romance suspense books。 Something heart-pounding, and life changing usually happens to our heroine (and sometimes the hero)。 It's usually violent, or sad, and suddenly you care about what happens to this person。 Too bad, in this books case, everything gets very boring after that。This book suffered from WAY too much set up。 Adrian and Raylan, our main couple, don't even spend any meaningful time together until halfway through this book。 Why? Because they barely know each other。 They met when they were kids, spent very little time together, grew up, moved away, and had lives of their own。 Something that Roberts goes over in detail。 Then, when shit gets sad, the two wind up back in their hometown again, but even then, it still takes another 50 pages before they go on a date。 There was so little regular romance in this novel, that it was shocking。 Honestly, this could be marketed more as a women's fiction novel, where it's just Adrian and all the people she's really good friends with, because there are 25 different side characters, who all have almost equal amounts of screen time as the main love interest。 Also, there are so many random plotlines, that have no bearing on the story whatsoever。 The biggest one being the community center part, which doesn't even get finished before the novel is done, so why is it in this book? Also, the suspense in non-existent as well。 You get your usual glimpses of the psycho who's stalking Adrian throughout the novel, but because Adrian doesn't let his stalking get to her that much, it doesn't get to the reader either。 The suspense, literally, only kicks in in the last 50 pages, when it's clear the stalker/serial killer has decided to finally pay Adrian a visit。 Also, it's pretty obvious who it is, because there is literally no one who hates Adrian。As for Adrian and Raylan themselves, they are a very cookie cutter, run of the mill, romance couple。 We do not get enough time with Raylan, in my opinion, and Adrian starts the book the same way she ends it, going through no growth whatsoever。 She went through this horrible thing as a child, but she's resilient, and never really struggles with it。 That's great from a realistic standpoint, but why would you write a book about someone who goes through a traumatic episode as a child, yet it doesn't effect her at all as an adult? Why was it necessary? Adrian could have easily had a crazy stalker for another reason, especially since she's a pseudo-celebrity figure。 She never had any serious relationships, but that is explained away with this weird idea that she always had a thing for Raylan, and fate just steered them together (which is problematic for several reason, but no spoilers)。 Roberts has done heroine's in the past who have gone through traumatic moments, and suffered still from them in the present, so the book revolves around her overcoming that trauma。 Adrian got over her trauma less then halfway through the book, and you're just left with her running her business, having girl's nights, and spending time with her friends kids。 It's so boring。I don't know, but this book was really disappointing。 There was not enough suspense in this book, to market it as such。 There are WAY too many characters in this book, that detract from the main couple, and there is not enough romance, in this literal romance novel。 I think the reason why I enjoyed The Awakening, so much more than this book is that one, it is the first book in a series, and there was actual character growth present, and two, Roberts was doing something different with the main couple, where, for the first time that I have read from her, the couple is not married with kids by the end of the book。 I'm not saying all of her books have to be that way, but with Legacy the married, with kids angle just doesn't work, because no effort was put in to getting them there。 If you are a fan of Roberts, maybe skip this one, and go grab one of her older books, because I feel like they are so much better than this one。 。。。more

It’s。。。 well, the language is pleasant。 But that’s to be expected。 It’s Nora, right? And her books are always well-researched, so you’ll likely learn something - in this case yoga, aerobics, blogging - just by letting it sink in with the story。 The premise of the story is great, and I’d love to see it developed sometime。Let me cut to the chase。 The first thing that stopped me cold was the head hopping。 I’m not talking about something like the dual point of view of a romance novel。 This has internal thoughts from other characters - at one point a dog - within passages from another’s POV。 It isn’t omniscient, because that’s all observation rather than characters’ internal thoughts and emotions。 Another issue I had with the book is that at 434 pages it half again longer than it needs to be。 Does no one edit Roberts for length? So much of this was background about how Adrian’s career and business developed。 How Raylan made it from Traveler’s Creek to NYC to develop his company。 Which of Adrian’s friends from the beginning & stuck the closest。 As for the suspense, I couldn’t find any。 It was clear who the stalker/killer was, and I just kept hoping they would make appearances at different times, to up the suspense level。 But aside from the annual forays into threatening poetry, they didn’t even give off an evil serial killer vibe。 In fact, as serial killers go, this one is pretty flat。 But none of the characters have much depth。Overall, if you’re a die-hard Nora Roberts fan and you want everything she’s ever written, you’re going to get Legacy in the medium of your choice, regardless of reviews。 If you like Nora and you can overlook the head hopping, you might want to reserve it at the library。 But if you want a good, quality story, you’ll probably want to pass on this book。 。。。more

Such a beautiful journey from a young girl's first taste of fear and tragedy to her ultimate taste of pure happiness。 This story follows Adrian and her life - encompassing her childhood dreams, her teen years of forging her own path, and her adult years of finding peace and contentment in her family and friends。 This story will easily make you remember all of the feelings of being young and trying to chase your dreams, and forging friendships that will stand the test of time。 The hope and resili Such a beautiful journey from a young girl's first taste of fear and tragedy to her ultimate taste of pure happiness。 This story follows Adrian and her life - encompassing her childhood dreams, her teen years of forging her own path, and her adult years of finding peace and contentment in her family and friends。 This story will easily make you remember all of the feelings of being young and trying to chase your dreams, and forging friendships that will stand the test of time。 The hope and resilience of Adrian will stay with you long after you are done reading。 The story also has side portions which follow Raylan, the brother of Adrian's best friend。 Because it is a Nora Roberts book, the reader will know there must be a romance brewing - but yet the way this evolves, you might find yourself second-guessing that assumption。 The character development is superb, as always from Nora Roberts。 The story is mostly dialogue, although there are countless instances of perfectly captured moments where the scene is described so vividly that you can picture yourself right there with Adrian or Raylan。 This is not a mere contemporary romance, as there is a suspenseful mystery intertwined。 However, that is just a very small portion of the first two sections of the book, and does not really become a focus until the last section。 I personally would have liked to have seen a bit more of the suspense worked into earlier sections, instead of just the hints we got, but the way it is structured and woven into this story does make perfect sense and works in the overall theme of the book。 Thank you to NetGalley and St。 Martin's Press for a copy of the e-ARC of this wonderful story in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

This book is a mixed bag。 I can usually count on Nora Roberts's stand-alone books to have interesting characters, a believable romance, and a good mystery。 This one was disappointing。 The main character was an annoying fitness expert who pushed her ideas on all her friends。 But, on the other hand, she had a sweet relationship with her grandparents。 I guessed who the killer was almost from the beginning, so the mystery wasn’t great。 As for the romance, it didn’t seem believable。 The dogs and the This book is a mixed bag。 I can usually count on Nora Roberts's stand-alone books to have interesting characters, a believable romance, and a good mystery。 This one was disappointing。 The main character was an annoying fitness expert who pushed her ideas on all her friends。 But, on the other hand, she had a sweet relationship with her grandparents。 I guessed who the killer was almost from the beginning, so the mystery wasn’t great。 As for the romance, it didn’t seem believable。 The dogs and the kids were great characters and were the most enjoyable part of the book。 Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC。 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley and St。 Martins Press Group for the ARC!This was an engaging story with a lot of great character depth, a little romance, and a little mystery。 Nora Roberts is a comfort author for me, and that is how this book felt。。。comfy。 I ADORED Adrian's grandparents, the found family aspect of this book, and the pacing of watching the relationships grow in this story。 I enjoyed when the mystery picked up during the last part of the book (of course)。 I would recommend this if you're l Thank you to Netgalley and St。 Martins Press Group for the ARC!This was an engaging story with a lot of great character depth, a little romance, and a little mystery。 Nora Roberts is a comfort author for me, and that is how this book felt。。。comfy。 I ADORED Adrian's grandparents, the found family aspect of this book, and the pacing of watching the relationships grow in this story。 I enjoyed when the mystery picked up during the last part of the book (of course)。 I would recommend this if you're looking for another solid story from Roberts that is both a little heartwarming and a little intriguing。 **Will publish my review to GR/Netgalley now。 Will post on bookstagram on pub date 05/25/21。 。。。more
