As an introduction to the concept of Bitcoin， it is okay but there are many shortcomings with this book。 Firstly because it is a collection of sermons and talks there is a lot of repetition。 Andreas not just repeats himself once but numerous times。 What is worse is that the same anecdote will be used more than once。 Secondly， there is a lot of flaff。 By that I mean this book could be cut by half。 Again， because it is a transcript of speeches， many of the concepts can be described better with few As an introduction to the concept of Bitcoin， it is okay but there are many shortcomings with this book。 Firstly because it is a collection of sermons and talks there is a lot of repetition。 Andreas not just repeats himself once but numerous times。 What is worse is that the same anecdote will be used more than once。 Secondly， there is a lot of flaff。 By that I mean this book could be cut by half。 Again， because it is a transcript of speeches， many of the concepts can be described better with fewer words and waffle。 Thirdly， some of the things said in the book are either inconsistent or plain contradictory。 For example page 3 "six and a half billion people on this planet have no connection to the world of money"， page 85 "today there are 3 billion with no banking facility whatsoever and 3 billion more which are "under-banked"" 。 So is it 3 billion or 6 billion with no connection to the world of money？ Another， page 43 "Bitcoin is not a currency" followed by page 47 "Bitcoin is a currency"。 This is ridiculous。 Fourthly and the last point， this book merely talks of concepts about how Bitcoin is the next stage in the evolution of money without addressing any of the issues such as the simple fact that Bitcoin today （2021） is traded more as a commodity than an instrument of trade， how institutions and governments will convince people to move from currency to Bitcoin， what about people who cannot afford PCs or smart devices， what if the internet goes down， how is debt commodified， will banks and financial institutions be willing to give up power so readily， the tax implications of trading on / using Bitcoin。 This book addresses none of this。 Maybe they are addressed in his other books， but I have passed caring。 Bitcoin， to me， is like Gold or Silver。 It's a commodity/equity to play with， in the hope of making money the easy way。 Its another way to invest and cash in when its accumulates in value。 Let's be honest here - no one wants to re-create the world， we all just want to get rich quick。 。。。more

Andreas Antonopoulos clearly thinks about blockchain cryptocurrencies a lot， and his very good at it。 This book was a treasure trove -- not a gold mine， but evidently a Bitcoin mine -- of interesting ideas。 I accidentally read this at an important time for me: it has given me some useful inspiration for a story I'm developing now。 It has also given me slightly better footing for how I think about cryptocurrencies in general。 I'm inclined to read the following books in the series。This is the firs Andreas Antonopoulos clearly thinks about blockchain cryptocurrencies a lot， and his very good at it。 This book was a treasure trove -- not a gold mine， but evidently a Bitcoin mine -- of interesting ideas。 I accidentally read this at an important time for me: it has given me some useful inspiration for a story I'm developing now。 It has also given me slightly better footing for how I think about cryptocurrencies in general。 I'm inclined to read the following books in the series。This is the first of a series of books written by slightly editing Andreas' live， somewhat extemporaneous public speaking on the subject of cryptocurrencies into something suitable for publication in book form。 There are some editing choices made by those who compiled this work that I would have made differently， but overall they did a great job in conveying a clear and well-rendered work that rises to exceed a standard I hadn't even thought it might meet。 It is one of the most interesting books discussing any technology that I have ever read， and it was every bit as engrossing as many very well-written novels; it only took me as long to read it as it did because I kept having to stop and think about what it said。If you have any interest in cryptocurrencies at all -- whether you're fore them， against them， confused by them， simply undecided， or pretty much anything else -- this is an excellent place to start， or to continue if you're already familiar with them。 If you've been into this stuff for ten years already and think you've heard it all， but haven't heard what Andreas has to say about it， this will probably change your thinking。The levels of interest this book coaxed out of me （as someone already quite interested in cryptocurrencies and their economic， social， and technological implications） frankly shocked me。Please read this book。 The insights within describe things that， unless you just aren't around in this civilization of ours long enough for them to manifest， must be reckoned as significant influences on your life for the foreseeable future。 If those influences are only indirect， you will have missed out on controlling some aspects of your own life otherwise within your grasp。 。。。more
