Summary

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls。 For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town。 Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly。 Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming。

It was actually a birthday gift from one of my friends。 It was the first ever Flynn book that I read, I haven't even watched "gone girl" to that time。 It is a great read, really beautiful style of writing from Gillian Flynn。 If you are interested in the concept of crime and the psychological complexities behind it, then it's a great choice for you。 It was actually a birthday gift from one of my friends。 It was the first ever Flynn book that I read, I haven't even watched "gone girl" to that time。 It is a great read, really beautiful style of writing from Gillian Flynn。 If you are interested in the concept of crime and the psychological complexities behind it, then it's a great choice for you。 。。。more

"Sharp Objects" is the first Gillian Flynn novel I have read, and she is a great writer。 She draws you in with her description and using her words to really make readers feel what she wants them to feel。 The characterization and emotions behind the people in this story were also very well crafted。 With that being said, "Sharp Objects" was not for me。 For as short of a book as it is, I had a hard time getting through it。 I went into this with high hopes。 I guessed who did it within the first 75 p "Sharp Objects" is the first Gillian Flynn novel I have read, and she is a great writer。 She draws you in with her description and using her words to really make readers feel what she wants them to feel。 The characterization and emotions behind the people in this story were also very well crafted。 With that being said, "Sharp Objects" was not for me。 For as short of a book as it is, I had a hard time getting through it。 I went into this with high hopes。 I guessed who did it within the first 75 pages! I wished it focused more on the mystery of solving the crimes。 It went into more detail in areas I didn't really connect with。 For me, this book was a little too psychological and disturbing。 However, if that is something you like in a crime thriller, then this is a book for you。 Personally, it wasn't my cup of tea。 。。。more

“Sharp Objects” by Gillian Flynn ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️OH。 MY。 GOD。 Just when you think you know where this is going, it takes a dramatic left turn。 I’m shocked, but I’m not shocked, but I’M SHOCKED。 TW: Self-Harm。 “Sharp Objects” is about a criminal journalist named Camille who returns to her home town in Missouri to cover the story of two dead girls, only to come face to face with the truth about her past。 From the title alone, I had an inkling that this novel was going to deal with self-harm by cutting, “Sharp Objects” by Gillian Flynn ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️OH。 MY。 GOD。 Just when you think you know where this is going, it takes a dramatic left turn。 I’m shocked, but I’m not shocked, but I’M SHOCKED。 TW: Self-Harm。 “Sharp Objects” is about a criminal journalist named Camille who returns to her home town in Missouri to cover the story of two dead girls, only to come face to face with the truth about her past。 From the title alone, I had an inkling that this novel was going to deal with self-harm by cutting, but I didn’t realize just how intense it was really going to be。 For a psychological thriller that is less than 300 pages, I really enjoyed how much of a slow burn this novel felt until the climax when the knife hits the skin, only to twist it a chapter later。 Flynn’s writing in this narrative is impeccable。 She really gets you into this dark place with Camille and you really feel grounded, as if you are Camille and everything is happening to you。 Brilliant。 Just brilliant。 Absolutely smashing。 。。。more

This book is so creepy and atmospheric。 There is no subtlety at play here, it’s pretty obvious from the jump that the town and all of the characters are pretty messed up, and I actually kind of like that。 None of the characters were particularly likable, but I didn’t get the impression that any of them were supposed to be, so I didn’t hate that。 The writing was quite good, and while I was pretty sure I’d figured out what happened, I was surprised to find I was a bit off base。 It was a pretty fas This book is so creepy and atmospheric。 There is no subtlety at play here, it’s pretty obvious from the jump that the town and all of the characters are pretty messed up, and I actually kind of like that。 None of the characters were particularly likable, but I didn’t get the impression that any of them were supposed to be, so I didn’t hate that。 The writing was quite good, and while I was pretty sure I’d figured out what happened, I was surprised to find I was a bit off base。 It was a pretty fast read, one I found hard to put down。 。。。more

No。 Would 13 YEAR OLDS be even close to doing the extremely adult activities they did in the book? NO。 Do I seriously think an ADULT would follow her 13 YEAR OLD sister that she barely knows to a party and accept drugs and alcohol from her??? UHHH NO。 A lot of elements of this book were definitely added just to up the gross factor, which again is fine for the atmosphere she was creating, but it was just so far fetched it was hard to be in the moment with the characters。 Honestly, I also thought there would be more of an explosive climax to the book because of the build up。。 it was a pretty calm ending all things considered。 The misdirect was nice because I was going to throw the book if it ended that neatly with her mom being the culprit, but it was still pretty predictable。 I also weirdly enjoyed the descriptions of her words/cuts and how they added to her inner dialogue while she was interacting with others。 。。。more

I was hesitant to start this book because it is totally outside of my typical genre。 As I got carried away by the story, I began to enjoy how miserable the characters were。 The story telling by Gillian Flynn is wonderful。 She described wretched people hindered with the worst character traits。 Even the good guys were pricks。 If you love reading a story that entails people at their worst, this is for you。

I loved the End of the book, it was a page-turner。 this book was disturbing, dark, disgusting but skillfully written and kept me hooked till the end。 I believe its ending was much better than Gone Girl By Gillian Flynn

Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl is what got me back into reading several years ago。 I hadn’t read any of her other books since then, afraid none could live up to the bar she set with that book。 I was right, at least with Sharp Objects。 I know now, but hadn’t put it together at the time I borrowed this from the library, that Sharp Objects was her first novel, so perhaps my comparison isn’t fair。 Also, I’ve read some pretty twisted stories in the past, but this one was on another level for me。 Dark and Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl is what got me back into reading several years ago。 I hadn’t read any of her other books since then, afraid none could live up to the bar she set with that book。 I was right, at least with Sharp Objects。 I know now, but hadn’t put it together at the time I borrowed this from the library, that Sharp Objects was her first novel, so perhaps my comparison isn’t fair。 Also, I’ve read some pretty twisted stories in the past, but this one was on another level for me。 Dark and disturbing beyond measure, I had zero compassion for any of the characters。 I didn’t even really care who had “done it” by the end except to see the full reveal after spending 9 hours with it。 Not my favorite。 。。。more

Holy fuck。 So, I've been meaning to read this for YEARS。 Ever since I dragged my mum and her best friend to see Gone Girl, I've been a little bit (see: very) obsessed with the way Gillian Flynn constructs characters。 Specifically the women。 They're all very flawed with a hint of feral。 Flynn never shies away from describing things uncomfortably, from going into NAUSEATING detail。 After reading Pretty Girls last year and feeling hollowed out, I missed Flynn's writing even more。 This did not disap Holy fuck。 So, I've been meaning to read this for YEARS。 Ever since I dragged my mum and her best friend to see Gone Girl, I've been a little bit (see: very) obsessed with the way Gillian Flynn constructs characters。 Specifically the women。 They're all very flawed with a hint of feral。 Flynn never shies away from describing things uncomfortably, from going into NAUSEATING detail。 After reading Pretty Girls last year and feeling hollowed out, I missed Flynn's writing even more。 This did not disappoint。 I know that this book can be a bit divisive, but I got what I needed from it。 Shock and disgust and most of all, sadness。 There is a fuckload to unpack and so much to fixate on, especially THAT ending — and mostly I'm glad I'm reading it now and not back when I first wanted to。 Some passages can be especially hard to read and I advise anyone interested in picking it up now look into further content/trigger warnings。 I cannot wait to dive into the show and feel just as destroyed。 TW: self-harm, sexualization of children, murder, child abuse, (view spoiler)[Munchausen By Proxy (hide spoiler)]。 。。。more

I think it is safe to say that Gillian Flynn is officially my favourite thriller/mystery writer of all time ever。 Just kike Gone Girl, this book gripped me from the first word。 The story had the perfect small town suspense and was fast, but not too fast, paced。 The writing was incredible and made me feel the level of uncomfortability required for a thriller perfectly。 Her characters are so chillingly psychotic, I cannot get enough。
