This picture book was very sweet。 It was about Amos, who worked at the zoo and helped all the animals。 He followed a strict daily routine and when Amos gets sick, the animals become worried。 They take the bus over to visit him and help him recover from feeling ill。 The illustrations are outstanding。 The shadows and lines create depth and make the images come to life。 Amos looks like a real old man with wrinkles and lines。 I can see why this book was a Caldecott winner。 The illustrations are so d This picture book was very sweet。 It was about Amos, who worked at the zoo and helped all the animals。 He followed a strict daily routine and when Amos gets sick, the animals become worried。 They take the bus over to visit him and help him recover from feeling ill。 The illustrations are outstanding。 The shadows and lines create depth and make the images come to life。 Amos looks like a real old man with wrinkles and lines。 I can see why this book was a Caldecott winner。 The illustrations are so detailed and magical。 I accessed this book from http://www。ala。org/alsc/awardsgrants/。。。 and listened to it on YouTube。 。。。more

great tale of friendship - good conversations with my kids about how sometimes we are needed by others and sometimes we need people and being a good friend includes both

The theme of friendship and caring for one another in this story is heartwarming。 The hard work the zookeeper puts in forms a bond with the animals that is so strong that they go see him on a sick day。 This shows kids that being kind to others can help form friendships。

Brooke

Charming and whimsical with stellar art。 No wonder it was a Caldecott winner。

When elderly zookeeper Amos McGee wakes up with a cold, his animal friends from the zoo visit him and help him to feel better。

Story was great and it was fun to believe that the animals missed him while he takes a sick day and go to drastic measures to make sure he is OK。 But the pictures and illustrations are a little drab for young readers and some brighter images would make this book even better。

I loved this children book it is super heartfelt。 When Amos McGee is sick his animals are there for him and take the responsibility to take care of him。 I loved the story line and every illustration。

A sweet, simple story about a zookeeper named Amos who tends for the animals daily。 One day, Amos wakes up feeling unwell and stays home, leaving his animal friends quite sad。 They all pile into the bus and pay their dear friend an overnight visit。 Erin E。 Stead’s illustrations not only faithfully display what the text is saying, but also add a bit of visual humor。 For example, when all the animals get on the bus, you can see the back tire significantly flatter, presumably due to the elephant se A sweet, simple story about a zookeeper named Amos who tends for the animals daily。 One day, Amos wakes up feeling unwell and stays home, leaving his animal friends quite sad。 They all pile into the bus and pay their dear friend an overnight visit。 Erin E。 Stead’s illustrations not only faithfully display what the text is saying, but also add a bit of visual humor。 For example, when all the animals get on the bus, you can see the back tire significantly flatter, presumably due to the elephant seen in the back seat。 I did not enjoy the limited color pallate and felt that Amos and the animals looked a little creepy in their realistic style but the story is cute and warm enough to balance out my distaste for the illustrations。 3/5。 。。。more

Amos normally goes to see his friends at the zoo everyday, but what happens when he takes a sick day and his friends don't know where he is。 Friendship is friendship is all shapes and forms。 Can we talk about the illustrations?! I think this book is so sweet and kind。 When the zoo keeper didn't make it to work because he was sick, he got a visit from the animals。 This story is a Caldecott Book Awarded winner and I believe that it does deserve this title。 I thought that this book was special as well because Philip the authors wife did the illustrations of the book。 I think this book is so sweet and kind。 When the zoo keeper didn't make it to work because he was sick, he got a visit from the animals。 This story is a Caldecott Book Awarded winner and I believe that it does deserve this title。 I thought that this book was special as well because Philip the authors wife did the illustrations of the book。 。。。more

This book was throughly enjoyable, and brought to light the impact others have on others that may seem taken for granted, but are not。 As a kid reading this I believe this book could put into perspective this idea and a kid friendly way。 The pictures were also delicate, not too much for the idea。

The first thing I noticed when reading this book is at the illustrator used color on the main characters。 He also used lighter colors in some backgrounds but otherwise used black and white。 This made the main characters stand out from other details in the book。 As a teacher, it is important that the students are looking at every detail instead of just the colors that are illustrated in the picture book。 The illustrator also used watercolor。 A question I would ask my students when reading this bo The first thing I noticed when reading this book is at the illustrator used color on the main characters。 He also used lighter colors in some backgrounds but otherwise used black and white。 This made the main characters stand out from other details in the book。 As a teacher, it is important that the students are looking at every detail instead of just the colors that are illustrated in the picture book。 The illustrator also used watercolor。 A question I would ask my students when reading this book to them is "have you ever missed someone when you or someone else was sick and couldn't come to school?" This would help them relate to the book a bit more and have a deeper understanding of what the author is trying to portray。 I could also ask students "have you ever been to the zoo?" "Did you see the same animals that were represented in the book?" "What type of animals did you see in the book?" This is another great book for students who love animals especially zoo animals。 Another great question is "who takes care of you when you're sick?" I also noticed the line in the book creates emotion from page to page to tell the story。 I noticed a red balloon as illustrated in the text and I cannot quite figure out why or the message behind it。 I overall I really enjoyed this book。 It was such a cute story and I think that students who love animals will really enjoy it。 Some background knowledge that students can use is a time that they went to the zoo。 They can use the animals that were illustrated in the story to a time that they went to the zoo and saw animals there。 。。。more
