Actually almost 4。 This is the first Hemingway book for me and I read it because it’s so short。 I was surprised that I liked it so well。 It would probably appeal to fishermen and/or baseball fans more than the average reader。 As I read it， I kept picturing Hemingway as he was portrayed in “Midnight in Paris”

Okay… like… I get the writing is pretty but… it’s just a fish my dude！ Another classic in the vein of The Catcher in the Rye and The Great Gatsby。 Pretty writing， but damn I could not connect to the story… it has put me off seafood for a bit though。

Santiago， seorang pria yang sudah lanjut usia tetapi masih menekuni profesinya yang sebagai nelayan。 Tak peduli selalu dicemooh oleh orang-orang karena tidak pernah mendapatkan ikan， tidak menyurutkan semangat beliau dalam menangkap ikan。Hingga suatu ketika， beliau malah berlayar terlalu jauh hingga daratan tidak terlihat lagi， di mana hanya ada beliau dan laut saja。 Aku melihat cukup banyak pergolakan batin pria tersebut selama berlayar di laut。 Banyak sekali tantangan yang berat selama berada Santiago， seorang pria yang sudah lanjut usia tetapi masih menekuni profesinya yang sebagai nelayan。 Tak peduli selalu dicemooh oleh orang-orang karena tidak pernah mendapatkan ikan， tidak menyurutkan semangat beliau dalam menangkap ikan。Hingga suatu ketika， beliau malah berlayar terlalu jauh hingga daratan tidak terlihat lagi， di mana hanya ada beliau dan laut saja。 Aku melihat cukup banyak pergolakan batin pria tersebut selama berlayar di laut。 Banyak sekali tantangan yang berat selama berada di laut， salah satunya ialah kumpulan para hiu。 Namun， beliau tetap menaruh harapan dan tidak menyerah untuk tetap bertahan。Aku dapat menemukan cukup banyak prinsip hidup beliau yang mengesankan， salah satunya ialah "rasa rendah hati tidak membuat manusia menjadi kehilangan harga dirinya"。 Aku senang sekali akhirnya beliau berhasil menangkap ikan yang sangat besar， di mana impiannya tersebut akhirnya terwujud。Dari cerita ini， aku belajar bahwa tak peduli sesulit apapun rintangan yang menghadang， akan selalu ada jalan keluar sehingga kita dapat melewati rintangan-rintangan tersebut。 Sungguh sebuah novel yang warm-hearted。 。。。more
