Summary

Evil has been defeated 。 。 。
The war has just begun。

THEY DID THE IMPOSSIBLE,
deposing the godlike being whose brutal rule had lasted a thousand years。 Now Vin, the street urchin who has grown into the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and Elend Venture, the idealistic young nobleman who loves her, must build a healthy new society in the ashes of an empire。

They have barely begun when three separate armies attack。 As the siege tightens, an ancient legend seems to offer a glimmer of hope。 But even if it really exists, no one knows where to find the Well of Ascension, or what manner of power it bestows。

IT MAY BE THAT KILLING THE LORD RULER WAS THE EASY PART 。 。 。

(Audiobook) Long listen but not disappointing! The well of ascension surprisingly did not play in unil the end so I was wondering what will fill the time。 The deeper development of the two main characters and their relationship was ample entertainment!! As well as the politics on play! Moreover I like the twist with the prophecy at the end。。a new play on prophecies being ambiguous。

Ok, I'll acquiesce。 This book was great。 Bear with me until the end, though, because I have some bones to pick。Now, something completely different。 The biggest caveat I see to these books so far is that the prose is way too simple。 No matter how much Sanderson's hardcore fans can argue, this is not a book that you read because it's well written, it will not go down in history as a literary masterpiece, and I supposed that is not something that really belittles the book。 I read the first installm Ok, I'll acquiesce。 This book was great。 Bear with me until the end, though, because I have some bones to pick。Now, something completely different。 The biggest caveat I see to these books so far is that the prose is way too simple。 No matter how much Sanderson's hardcore fans can argue, this is not a book that you read because it's well written, it will not go down in history as a literary masterpiece, and I supposed that is not something that really belittles the book。 I read the first installment of the trilogy and was rather disappointed by the way things were told。 Yet, I liked the things that were being told。 Now I have read the second book aware of this, and my experience changed for the better。 Sure, there's emotional complexity, nuanced characters, little turns every now and then that keep you hooked。 It's the way the narrator gives you these informations so explicitly that really make it loose some of its effect。 Whatever happened to "show, don't tell"? This book has a lot of "tell, then show" sort of things。 Is the character conflicted because they don't know whether to love this guy or that one? Here, have a paragraph of the characters inner monologue literally saying "Hmmm, I love him, but I also love him, I'm conflicted, why am I conflicted, this is conflicting。"Another thing Sanderson doesn't do well is romance。 I honestly had some trouble reading Vin's romance with Elend in the first book, and something similar has happened here with you-know-who and Vin。 I don't know if it's perhaps because of a mormon (or generally christian perspective), but his approach to love is very 19th century。 Passionate, fast, burning, and irrational。 It's not set up so well in my opinion, mainly because, for a 760 page book, it deals very little space to developing these feelings。 Again, suddenly we are told about love, and my reaction is。。。 where did this love come from。 Love? Infatuation, sure。 But love? All that being said, this man has a knack for world building。 It straddles the line between classic, predictable and safe high fantasy, and freshness。 Just when I think I've got something figured out, it surprised me by not being so。。。 so that's always a thing。I did give it a 5 star rating。 I enjoyed it。 It made me turn the pages, and I think that's the intention here。 Yet, if only he could refine his prose, make it something not only worth telling, but something worth reading, then it could maybe aspire to something more perpetual。 。。。more

Would have been a 5 star if I didn't feel so tired after having finished it。 I was EXHAUSTED。😅 These characters already in a bad position, having to negotiate their way down from *worst* outcomes to *worse* outcomes every page of this book was depressing。 Here's to hoping the third book gives me the release I so desperately need! Also, no women/girls of note? At all? Vin is all we're going to get then? Weakest book in the series by far。 In its defense, second books (in trilogies) tend to be like that。 Lot of set-up to transition between the introductory first book and the culminating third book。 Anyway, the whole (pseudo) love triangle with Zane just comes off poorly。 Zane is just such a cringe-inducing character that anytime he comes on screen I found myself taken out of it。 He doesn't feel like a person at all, just a caricature。 I can't say I enjoyed Elend's arc much either。Like most Sander Weakest book in the series by far。 In its defense, second books (in trilogies) tend to be like that。 Lot of set-up to transition between the introductory first book and the culminating third book。 Anyway, the whole (pseudo) love triangle with Zane just comes off poorly。 Zane is just such a cringe-inducing character that anytime he comes on screen I found myself taken out of it。 He doesn't feel like a person at all, just a caricature。 I can't say I enjoyed Elend's arc much either。Like most Sanderson books, the ending is wrapped up together very well。 There are enough clues to make you slap your forehead and go, "Ohhh"。 It's a satisfying ending and sets the stage very well for book three。 All in all, I don't think this is a good book on its own, but I could tolerate it because of what it means to the overall series。 。。。more

Good story, compelling continuation。 Left me with more questions than answers though, and I was expecting/hoping to get more answers in this second book rather than in the third。

This book was really good! I enjoyed the premise greatly。 It reminded me of Lord of the Rings (this scene was just in the books) when the hobbits go back to Hobbiton and find that Saruman has taken over the Shire。 Not a lot of books go into what “Happily ever after” entails。 Good job Mr。 Sanderson!

I kind of lost track of time。。。For two hours? There were books involved。But I'd like you however you were Vin。 I love you。 The question is, how do you like yourself?Y。。 QUE ONDA LOS INQUISIDORES? realmente ya ni entiendo bien de que parte están, por qué no me hace sentido que estén de parte de la cosa esa que se liberó, pero tampoco sé por que dejaron que se liberará。。 y Marsh。。 que onda? sé que aún queda algo bueno de él, pero está siguiendo ordenes de alguien, o algo, pero NO SABEMOS NADA! por favor necesito una explicación。Y que onda esa cosa in the Mist? osea la cosa que se liberó se supone que mando the Deepnes como una carnada para que se pudiera liberar pero no entiendo。。。 hay cosas in the Mist que matan, pero también hay algo que trató de salvarlos。 Osea ese que apuñaló a Elend para que Vin pudiera elegirlo a él y no liberara el poder。。。 OSEA, QUE ONDA?! Como "ultimo punto" quiero hacer una mención a OreSeur ( o como quiera que sea su verdadero nombre), al igual que con Vin, me empezó a gustar mucho su personaje, y el hecho de que haya aparecido casi todo el libro como un perrito me ayudó mucho a que me cayera mejor。 Siento que en el fondo es taaan bueno, pero la vida lo ha tratado mal :( asi que su amitad con Vin me gustó mucho mucho。Truth be told, even with the slightly sour end of conversation, he felt better for having to come watch the sparring。 It was strange how the members of Kelsier's crew could laugh and make light, even during the most terrible situations。 They had a way of making him forget about his problems。Esa parte la destaqué por que expresa perfecto lo que yo pensé de la crew en el primer libro, me gusta mucho como a pesar de todo lo que estaban pasando, siempre estaban tirando la talla。Penrod and Cett treat you like the skaa used to be treated, and that's why you think they're strong。 But that's not strength- it's oppression。 Creo que no me queda nada mas que decir。 REALMENTE AMO ESTOS LIBROS, y quiero demasiado saber como van a solucionar todo esto en el tercero。 。。。more

Building something up is always harder than tearing something down。This is the book where I really found time to dig into character motives and to force feed them some hard questions。 What is the line between safety and freedom? What do you do when your ideals fail you? What do you do when you go from being an outlaw to enforcing the law?"The Well of Ascension follow up on the end of the Lord Ruler's rule and the power vacuum that exist, which is the main cause of concern。 Power struggle begin to exist between leaders of different factions。 Unlike The Final Empire which has one main plot, The Well of Ascension divides into different sub plots from different perspectives that come together to fuel the main plot。 Elend Venture is trying to get the nation together but face incoming threats from other factions that want to claim the country for themselves。 Vin faces her true identity as a Mistborn and Kelsier's heir and go on the journey to try and accept her new life。 Sazed embark on a journey to uncover the secret behind the Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages。Despite the book being heavily foccused on the politics in Luthadel, which might get mundane after a while, Sanderson uses his characters to keep us engaged。 Character development was the highlight for me in this book。 He explored the inner struggles that the characters faced and gave them difficult situations to see how they would solve them and grow。 These character growths were mainly caused by the death of Kelsier and Sanderson goes on to show the heavy influence Kelsier had on every characters even after his death。 Kelsier was the equivalent to Ironman in Avengers: Endgame。 Whenever a strong character dies or does not play a very significant role, it allows for readers to inspect the other characters more。 This can leave authors very vulnerable in messing up the character development when there is no strong characters to carry the story and hook the reafers but this is definitely not the case for Sanderson。 He is unafraid and dive deep into exploring every characters in this book in particular。 He provides a strong connection with the characters as we understand their fears and thought processes in face chaos and troubled times。Among all the characters, Elend Venture had the most character growth and I really enjoyed his development from a nobleman that is nonchalant about mingling and forming connections to let his house be the strongest to being the leader of Luthadel and fighting for the people。 Aside from Vin, I felt that Elend faced the most struggle in this book but his persistence in what he believe morally truly inspired me。 There are many times he could have taken the easy way out but he stayed on and fought for the people with no hidden motives。Sanderson continues with his fantastic worldbuilding。 The existence of creatures like Kandras and Koloss had heavy influence on the plot of the story。 There was the introduction of a new metal which would result in the turning point of the world。 Lastly, the ending see Sanderson beginning to insert Cosmere's elements and the connection to other books in the Cosmere universe。 Sanderson made sure there was a reason as to why these things existed in the world and that is why his worldbuilding is next level。The reason why this book did not hit 5 stars was due the over writing of politics in the first 2/3 of the book, which led to the book becoming draggy and slow despite Sanderson's brilliant writing in making the political debates intense。 The last 20% of the book absolutely captured my attention after all the buildup in the front。 It was bloody, brutal and intense。 It was just a nightmare for the characters fighting and that is exactly what a war would be like in reality。 The death scenes were short but delivered a punch in the guts as we had already form a connection with the characters that died。 The Siege of Luthadel has made its mark as one of the most well written battle in fantasy books。 It is always tough for the sequel to be good, especially if the first book is one of the fantasy classics and serve as a benchmark for you。 The Well of Ascension met the expectations and did not disappoint the readers。 The ending of this novel will make readers want to start The Hero of Ages almost immediately because of how exciting things are about to get。 。。。more
