Summary

Tako rzecze Ithlinne, elfia wieszczka i uzdrowicielka:
Drżyjcie, albowiem nadchodzi Niszczyciel Narodów。
Stratują waszą ziemię i sznurem ją podzielą。
Miasta wasze zostaną zburzone i pozbawione mieszkańców。
Nietoperz i kruk w domach waszych zamieszkają,
drzewo straci liść, zgnije owoc i zgorzknieje ziarno。
Zaprawdę powiadam wam, oto nadchodzi czas miecza i topora,
wiek wilczej zamieci。
Miasto płonie, wąskie uliczki zieją ogniem i żarem。
Narasta wrzask, odgłosy zajadłej walki, murem wstrząsają głuche uderzenia taranu。
Krzyk, strach。
Obezwładniający, paraliżujący, duszący strach。

This is actually a lot better than I anticipated。 Turns out the source material for the games and T。V show is pretty darn good。 I might be fanboying a little since I recently watched season 1 on Netflix and am casually playing through the wild hunt on Switch。 This story works really well on audio with a great narrator to boot。 I prefer scenes that are longer in my books and a trimmed down cast is also beneficial for me when it comes to listening on audio。Overall pretty satisfying would love to c This is actually a lot better than I anticipated。 Turns out the source material for the games and T。V show is pretty darn good。 I might be fanboying a little since I recently watched season 1 on Netflix and am casually playing through the wild hunt on Switch。 This story works really well on audio with a great narrator to boot。 I prefer scenes that are longer in my books and a trimmed down cast is also beneficial for me when it comes to listening on audio。Overall pretty satisfying would love to continue on audio shortly。 。。。more

It was。。。 kind of boring jkdhakskdjf。 I've described it like this to my friends as well, it was a boring book with interesting moments。 The pros are the very first chapter, which I liked a lot because it was an interesting approach to world building, the humor which was indeed quite funny at times and the fight scenes which were really well written。However the whole book was overall pretty boring and felt more like a script (if that makes any sense) at least to me。 At one point I gave up reading It was。。。 kind of boring jkdhakskdjf。 I've described it like this to my friends as well, it was a boring book with interesting moments。 The pros are the very first chapter, which I liked a lot because it was an interesting approach to world building, the humor which was indeed quite funny at times and the fight scenes which were really well written。However the whole book was overall pretty boring and felt more like a script (if that makes any sense) at least to me。 At one point I gave up reading because it didn't hold my attention so I switched to the audiobook which has an absolutely stellar adaptation, but even so, quite boring。 。。。more

Enlightening, page-turner, intrigued The Witcher is a series that I wanted to start reading after having followed season 1 on Netflix。 The first Chapter of this book is a mess。 I started feeling confused where it was leading to and I was hoping the second chapter wouldn’t be more of the same。 If it had been I wouldn’t have kept on reading。 Luckily it gets better and now you can actually follow the story and the characters。 The story itself moves on nicely, there aren’t a lot of chapters in the b Enlightening, page-turner, intrigued The Witcher is a series that I wanted to start reading after having followed season 1 on Netflix。 The first Chapter of this book is a mess。 I started feeling confused where it was leading to and I was hoping the second chapter wouldn’t be more of the same。 If it had been I wouldn’t have kept on reading。 Luckily it gets better and now you can actually follow the story and the characters。 The story itself moves on nicely, there aren’t a lot of chapters in the book。 However the chapters itself are quite lengthy。 Flashbacks are obvious and the actions are really nice to follow。 Geralt is exactly how he is protrayed in the Netflix series。 I do believe they did a great job there。 He’s supposed to be an insensitive bastard, yet he shows emotion。 He’s angry when he feels betrayed, and he has a great feeling of care for Ciri。Ciri was one of the characters that I wanted to get more acquainted with and that goes excellently。 She’s more surprising than I thought she would be。 I’m definitely looking forward to book 2, as I wanna know more of the path she’s walking and what things will lead up to。Yennifer is a lil colder than I expected after having watched the series。 She’s not insensitive tho, just feels like a stern person。 It does suit her and I feel like it makes her character stronger still。Definitely found enlightenment after watching season 1, and I even more wanna know, have to know what’s gonna happen next! 。。。more

Wanting to open up my reading horizons, I decided to try out fantasy once more。 The last book of the kind i had read was the GOT saga 4 years ago。This first volume talks about the lion cub of Cintra "Ciri" a young girl with powers yet to be understood。 She is taken care of by the famous witcher Geralt of Rivia and two enchantresses namely Triss Merigold and Yennefer。 In this book you will find adventure, politics as well as a certain amount of romance and humour。 While this is no Tolkien nor GRR Wanting to open up my reading horizons, I decided to try out fantasy once more。 The last book of the kind i had read was the GOT saga 4 years ago。This first volume talks about the lion cub of Cintra "Ciri" a young girl with powers yet to be understood。 She is taken care of by the famous witcher Geralt of Rivia and two enchantresses namely Triss Merigold and Yennefer。 In this book you will find adventure, politics as well as a certain amount of romance and humour。 While this is no Tolkien nor GRR Martin, I genuinely had a good time reading it and will likely be buying the second volume soon enough。 It is also worth mentioning the parallels with todays reality are striking which makes the book even more interesting。 Indeed, If I told you this is a book about racism, totalitarianism, ecology and inequalities I would be telling the truth。 Easy to read I think having watched the series also helped me understand quite easily the overall scenario and the multiple characters。 。。。more

I have already said a lot about the Witcher that holds true in this book as well, though it's fun to finally see how the prequel texts finally go into the main narrative, so if you have read The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, you're in for a lot of treats。 Plus, getting more political is always fun, though I suspect that its take on "neutrality" is less of a thesis and more something that will be evolved。 I also like how the book is mostly told through dialogue, though I'd prefer more descripti I have already said a lot about the Witcher that holds true in this book as well, though it's fun to finally see how the prequel texts finally go into the main narrative, so if you have read The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, you're in for a lot of treats。 Plus, getting more political is always fun, though I suspect that its take on "neutrality" is less of a thesis and more something that will be evolved。 I also like how the book is mostly told through dialogue, though I'd prefer more descriptions myself, the dialogue is so important that it makes sense for the book to focus on it。 There is one thing I have a major gripe with this book: Without spoiling anything, there's a paralell story being told while the main story is being told, but it's all thrown in at the end。 I think the story would've been better if it was put in between the main story as a sort of respite between the action。 That being said, still a really fun and great fantasy book I'd recommend to most adult fantasy fans。 。。。more

This is a hard one to review。 It was a good book but it doesn’t really stand in its own。 The ending is as satisfying as a cliffhanger at the end of a season of your favorite show。 That being said I would recommend it if you are looking to start a series。

The chapters are long, but the atmosphere and pace make it worthwhile。

So I had really high hopes for this book and found myself very disappointed。 For a book about a Witcher, a monster killing mutant, he only actually fights a monster once and there's only one other fight。 The rest of the book is all politics and dialogue about what Geralt did, but never actually showed it。 I don't understand how there are so many raving reviews for a book where absolutely nothing gets accomplished。 I kept waiting for the climax, but I couldn't actually tell you where it is - some So I had really high hopes for this book and found myself very disappointed。 For a book about a Witcher, a monster killing mutant, he only actually fights a monster once and there's only one other fight。 The rest of the book is all politics and dialogue about what Geralt did, but never actually showed it。 I don't understand how there are so many raving reviews for a book where absolutely nothing gets accomplished。 I kept waiting for the climax, but I couldn't actually tell you where it is - something that drives me crazy in story telling, especially fantasy/sci-fi。 I was so excited to read this series, but now I'm glad I only bought the first book, because if the rest is the same, it isn't worth it。 I'll wait for the next season of the Netflix show instead。 At least that makes the story interesting。I realized I also forgot to add one of my biggest pet peeves: the writing of female characters! Women do not turn into delicate little flowers once a month。 Most of us can go on kicking monster booty or training or whatever。 The author only needed to ask one female friend or reader how this works。 。。。more

Really enjoyed the first witcher book。。 Was definitely very different from the short stories, not a lot of action, a lot of talking about the action。。 I still loved it anyway, it fleshed out all the main characters and gave a good overview of the witcher world。

The story = 5 stars but the writing style = 2 stars and the sexism was exhausting。 3 stars overall for just a general lack of interest in the story despite my love of the Witcher。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I will be reading the rest of the series for sure! Maybe just because I want to know what’s going on in The Wither season two, just as well as my boyfriend does。 Or maybe because I secretly want to see Geralt and Yennefer get together。。。 The characters are likable and I like the setting and writing style。However, the reason I wouldn’t read it again is because it was a pretty slow book。 I don’t want to blame this book but I got into a two month reading slump as well。 It’s slow because some dialog I will be reading the rest of the series for sure! Ah… This world that Andrzey Sapkowski has created is definitely one of the best fantasy worlds about。 The depth of emotion and the breath of feelings that separate one region, one class, one race, from another, and the grievances that come to being due to this make for an incredibly rich background for the action to take place in。Witcher, Enchantress, and Princess… It sounds like a joke, but what comes together is a much more compelling story than I would have originally thought。 Not only did I Ah… This world that Andrzey Sapkowski has created is definitely one of the best fantasy worlds about。 The depth of emotion and the breath of feelings that separate one region, one class, one race, from another, and the grievances that come to being due to this make for an incredibly rich background for the action to take place in。Witcher, Enchantress, and Princess… It sounds like a joke, but what comes together is a much more compelling story than I would have originally thought。 Not only did I enjoy seeing Ciri train and grow, in wisdom as well as in character, but Geralt’s attempts from both afar and nearby to facilitate this and protect Ciri were easy motives to appreciate。Yennefer’s task of training Ciri was another highlight。 Yennefer, after all, is also a very complex character。 However, this training was shown to the reader only in dialogue。 The reader, therefore, had to imagine how all of this happened。 Mr Sapkowski also used the same method with the original training that we saw through the eyes of another wizard, and I really came to enjoy it。 The story progresses quicker, and all of the emphasis is on the growth of the characters。I’m still tremendously enjoying the world of the Witcher with all its complexities。 The race relations mentioned above feature strongly in this book, and create a dimension that many fantasies lack: that of racism and kin-strife。 At the same time, as the minor characters in the very beginning describe it, Nilfgaard is also ascribed a racial overtone though they are much the same as the rest of the world。I’m eagerly looking forward to the next volume! Way too much world building and not enough plot for my liking。 Probably great if you like that sort of thing, but pages and pages discussing political factions, monster varieties, racial tensions, etc just weren’t doing it for me。

I had a hard time getting back into their world but once I did, this was enjoyable! I’m less a fan of the political intrigue than I am having scenes with Geralt。 I’m seriously considering continuing on with the audiobooks。 The writing (translation?) was laugh out loud bad, but it’s less worrisome in audiobook form for me。
