Summary

"The all-time favorite, now in a sturdy board book。"

There are 28。9 million children under the age of 5 in the U。S。 and all of them will need to be toilet trained。 This classic book has already helped millions of parents get their children through a life milestone with ease and some entertainment too。

With "Once Upon a Potty," a parent reads the book to their child or allows the child to read it while on the potty。 Not surprisingly, the book takes some wear。 This new board book edition will withstand such heavy use and survive the occasional water spill too。

This is THE potty training book。 It has it all, bright graphics, simple language, fun story and an anatomically correct hero。 With an edition for each gender, the book relates directly to the child, making the potty-training process relatable and easy to understand。

The "potty" didn't look anything like any of our facilities, and it bugged my husband that only mom was responsible for changing diapers。 The "potty" didn't look anything like any of our facilities, and it bugged my husband that only mom was responsible for changing diapers。 。。。more

I’m sure this book was revolutionary in the 70s。 It’s so dated now。 Miserable to read, weird language, skip for sure。

While I appreciate the simple terms used the perspective (Prudence's mother) makes it awkward。 The author's note in thw beginning does indicate to swap out the words in the story for the ones your family ia most comfortable using but that too can cause some stumbling at first。 My daughter has trouble focusing for the entire book but we'll keep trying! I am going to start doing the poo poo in the potty soon so Mama bought me the book。 I think this is super fun!

Meh。 The most exciting part my daughter finds in this book is using the "toilet" aka chamber pot as a hat。 Or the cat drinking out of it。 Which are both explinations of what it is *not*。 I don't think this book really gets the idea across because as a society, we've started using very standardized toilets, and plastic potty training toilets。 So it was hard for me to explain that it was a toilet。 She didn't get it。 I gave up。 Meh。 The most exciting part my daughter finds in this book is using the "toilet" aka chamber pot as a hat。 Or the cat drinking out of it。 Which are both explinations of what it is *not*。 I don't think this book really gets the idea across because as a society, we've started using very standardized toilets, and plastic potty training toilets。 So it was hard for me to explain that it was a toilet。 She didn't get it。 I gave up。 。。。more

I have no idea why I loved this book so much, but I vividly remember reading it even after I had already learned what it was trying to teach me。

This has to be the worst children’s book I’ve ever read。 I literally created an account on here so I could say how bad it was

Got it from the library and my daughter loves it。 She even quoted it and went potty by herself today。 WIN!

。 مسم !

What a wonderful little book for toddlers and other little folk, told in an understandable way。 It seems to me that this book would be a real enticement for a toddler to stop using her diapers and use her pot instead!

Review to come。

Cissexist and also like, if you need to arbitrarily gender books at least use anatomical terminology。 Kids need to know the name of their body parts。

I got this book from the library because I was looking for books to read to my clients as we teach them toilet training。 The language and visuals in this book are horrible。 I would not recommend this to anyone teaching their child to toilet train。

Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes。 We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors。This was one of many。 many picture books we got out from the library to do with toilet training。 It was okay。 I think Miss 3 might have liked it better if the graphics looked more like the kind of potty she recognises (rather than a chamb Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes。 We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors。This was one of many。 many picture books we got out from the library to do with toilet training。 It was okay。 I think Miss 3 might have liked it better if the graphics looked more like the kind of potty she recognises (rather than a chamber pot)。 The book didn't seem to interest her。 。。。more

I like that this book is visually accurate (well, closer than usual) but am frustrated it doesn’t have anatomical names for body parts。

Children ask me to read this book again and again。 For that reason, I will say it is an "okay" book, but I think there are better potty training books available。 When I read this book aloud, I change several words。 First, I exclude the "she is a girl" part because not everyone with a vagina is a girl。 Speaking of which, I also call the body parts by their real names because it is important for the children to learn them。 Lastly, I change "wee-wee" and "poo-poo" to simply "pee" and "poop" when I Children ask me to read this book again and again。 For that reason, I will say it is an "okay" book, but I think there are better potty training books available。 When I read this book aloud, I change several words。 First, I exclude the "she is a girl" part because not everyone with a vagina is a girl。 Speaking of which, I also call the body parts by their real names because it is important for the children to learn them。 Lastly, I change "wee-wee" and "poo-poo" to simply "pee" and "poop" when I read it。 。。。more

vintage throwback from my youth! love the classic illustrations, it is a smidge dated though, and a little long for a 17mo

Sure this is a "classic," but it needs updating。 Kids need to learn about their bodies and have agency over them。 We should be teaching our children the names of their body parts, for starters, not that "pee-pee" comes from their "wee-wee。" Sure this is a "classic," but it needs updating。 Kids need to learn about their bodies and have agency over them。 We should be teaching our children the names of their body parts, for starters, not that "pee-pee" comes from their "wee-wee。" 。。。more

Elouise thought the drawings of poo-poo were hilarious, and the potty training adventures of Prudence and Prudence's mother were enjoyed more by her than me。 She especially enjoyed the view of Prudence's "little hole for making Poo-Poo。" I hope you can sense my giant eye-roll。 Elouise thought the drawings of poo-poo were hilarious, and the potty training adventures of Prudence and Prudence's mother were enjoyed more by her than me。 She especially enjoyed the view of Prudence's "little hole for making Poo-Poo。" I hope you can sense my giant eye-roll。 。。。more

There's little I like about this book。 Using "baby-talk" instead of calling things by their correct names is the main turn-off for me, such as the book's way of saying "wee wee for pee pee。" The anatomical incorrectness goes beyond this in suggesting that "wee wees" make pee and your bum hole makes poo。 Of course, this is not true。 Your urethra and anus help to eject urine and feces; but they do not create it。 Your kidneys and intestines are rather more responsible。 I also didn't care much for t There's little I like about this book。 Using "baby-talk" instead of calling things by their correct names is the main turn-off for me, such as the book's way of saying "wee wee for pee pee。" The anatomical incorrectness goes beyond this in suggesting that "wee wees" make pee and your bum hole makes poo。 Of course, this is not true。 Your urethra and anus help to eject urine and feces; but they do not create it。 Your kidneys and intestines are rather more responsible。 I also didn't care much for the rather dull illustrations either; and felt this book overall just had a very poor approach towards explaining its topic。 I couldn't be bothered to read this to my daughter and know it would not hold her attention。 I myself couldn't sit through all the "and sat and sats" there are。This one is definitely not worth the time。 。。。more

I get that this is a potty-training "classic" but I'm really not okay with telling my daughter that she has a "wee-wee for pee-pee。" I know she can't pronounce the word "urethra" right now, but I'm way more comfortable using the actual terms rather than the cutesy ones。 The first person with the mom telling the story also felt strange because it didn't give the little girl very much agency within the story that's supposed to be about her。 I get that this is a potty-training "classic" but I'm really not okay with telling my daughter that she has a "wee-wee for pee-pee。" I know she can't pronounce the word "urethra" right now, but I'm way more comfortable using the actual terms rather than the cutesy ones。 The first person with the mom telling the story also felt strange because it didn't give the little girl very much agency within the story that's supposed to be about her。 。。。more

I remember reading this book as a kid and apparently it still has a draw。 My toddler loved this one, despite it's length and details, and wanted to read it over and over。 I liked that it included "accidents" and focused on patience and not giving up。 I remember reading this book as a kid and apparently it still has a draw。 My toddler loved this one, despite it's length and details, and wanted to read it over and over。 I liked that it included "accidents" and focused on patience and not giving up。 。。。more
