Summary

Susan Cain, New York Times bestselling author of Quiet "The world could surely use a little more love, a little more compassion, and a little more wisdom。 In Love for Imperfect Things, Haemin Sunim shows us how to cultivate all three, and to find beauty in the most imperfect of things--including your very own self。"

A #1 internationally bestselling book of spiritual wisdom about learning to love ourselves, with all our imperfections, by the Buddhist author of The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down

Hearing the words "be good to yourself first, then to others" was like being struck by lightning。

Many of us respond to the pressures of life by turning inward and ignoring problems, sometimes resulting in anxiety or depression。 Others react by working harder at the office, at school, or at home, hoping that this will make ourselves and the people we love happier。 But what if being yourself is enough? Just as we are advised on airplanes to take our own oxygen first before helping others, we must first be at peace with ourselves before we can be at peace with the world around us。

In this beautiful follow-up to his international bestseller The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down, Zen Buddhist monk Haemin Sunim turns his trademark wisdom to the art of self-care, arguing that only by accepting yourself--and the flaws that make you who you are--can you have compassionate and fulfilling relationships with your partner, your family, and your friends。 With more than thirty-five full-color illustrations, Love for Imperfect Things will appeal to both your eyes and your heart, and help you learn to love yourself, your life, and everyone in it。

When you care for yourself first, the world begins to find you worthy of care。

Oh I really enjoyed this! It's a quick read as it's mostly quotation style but it's also deep, warm, and thought-provoking。 I don't typically buy books but this is the kind of book I'd buy because it would be valuable to come back to these loving words and teachings often, as needed。 Oh I really enjoyed this!

Loved it。 Reminded me that no matter how low and rubbish I feel, I am enough and I was created to be exactly who I am because I am perfect

I try not to give five stars unless I really, deeply enjoyed a book。For this second book of Haemin Sunim, this label is completely applicable。As someone who has read a lot of non-fiction books in the area of self-development, this book still managed to amaze me。It was not in the novelty of the content I was surprised the most。 Haemin Sunim is in my opinion so eloquently able to capture both the essence of his teachings while still managing to translate it to the modern, western world。 This book I try not to give five stars unless I really, deeply enjoyed a book。For this second book of Haemin Sunim, this label is completely applicable。As someone who has read a lot of non-fiction books in the area of self-development, this book still managed to amaze me。It was not in the novelty of the content I was surprised the most。 Haemin Sunim is in my opinion so eloquently able to capture both the essence of his teachings while still managing to translate it to the modern, western world。 This book is marinated in (self-)compassion and gives comfort and support in both hard and happy times。I can imagine myself gifting this book to a lot of people with whom I have professional and private relationships。 。。。more

The world can seem like a tough place to be at times。。。and for me this book was a little refuge from it。 Every time I picked it up, it felt like a drink of cold water。 This book helped me to give myself a break from pursuits of perfection, and to just be kinder to myself。This book is a gem。

“may you be a heater for someone today”i put this book on the shelf “to read” probably a year ago, since then i’ve read several reviews and before opening it i truly expected something completely different。 not that i’m disappointed, because it’s been even better。it came out to be like a warm blanket in the cold late night which comforts and hugs you whispering to your ears that no matter what everything will be alright。 just take a sleep and you will see。

I really really enjoyed this book。 The author's message was simple yet effective and he provided clear examples for each point he made。 I appreciated the kindness of his words and the emphasis on how to take small steps toward kindness to yourself。 This is something I am really trying to work on, and I think I want to buy a copy of this book to keep for myself so I can read the reminders when I need them。 Totally recommend to anyone working on self love。 I really really enjoyed this book。 The author's message was simple yet effective and he provided clear examples for each point he made。 I appreciated the kindness of his words and the emphasis on how to take small steps toward kindness to yourself。 This is something I am really trying to work on, and I think I want to buy a copy of this book to keep for myself so I can read the reminders when I need them。 Totally recommend to anyone working on self love。 。。。more

。。。more
