Summary

Fan-favorite heroes Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers join forces on a deadly maritime case in the remarkable new novel from #1 New York Times-bestselling author John Sandford。

An off-duty Coast Guardsman is fishing with his family when he calls in some suspicious behavior from a nearby boat。 It's a snazzy craft, slick and outfitted with extra horsepower, and is zipping along until it slows to pick up a surfaced diver 。 。 。 a diver who was apparently alone, without his own boat, in the middle of the ocean。 None of it makes sense unless there's something hinky going on, and his hunch is proved right when all three Guardsmen who come out to investigate are shot and killed。

They're federal officers killed on the job, which means the case is the FBI's turf。 When the FBI's investigation stalls out, they call in Lucas Davenport。 And when his case turns lethal, Davenport will need to bring in every asset he can claim, including a detective with a fundamentally criminal mind: Virgil Flowers。

As always, John Sanford brings a great story to life。 I haven't read the entire Lucan Davenport Series but I have read the entire Virgil Flower series and a couple of the Kidd series as well。 I love the books。 They are captivating from the beginning of the story and if you've read any of the previous books, you are reminded of what happened or who the characters are as you go along with the current book you are reading。 I am a huge fan。 As always, John Sanford brings a great story to life。 I haven't read the entire Lucan Davenport Series but I have read the entire Virgil Flower series and a couple of the Kidd series as well。 I love the books。 They are captivating from the beginning of the story and if you've read any of the previous books, you are reminded of what happened or who the characters are as you go along with the current book you are reading。 I am a huge fan。 。。。more

I've read every book in the series and have felt, sadly, that the quality of the writing and storytelling was declining over the last five or six installments。 This book was a nice surprise: better writing, and more importantly, an engaging story with Lucas and Virgil Flowers in one book, albeit in different places。 I've never been a fan of the Flowers series but Virgil was a good addition to this story, especially matched with Rae, the US Marshall。 Recommended! Strangely enough I would like to give this book either 3。5 stars or 7。 That is because I am more team Flowers than team Davenport。 Thought the first part of the book (mostly team Davenport) was somewhat telegraphed/ predictable。 But Sandford did a great job there setting up the second part of the book which brought in Flowers…。。and that is when the action picked up for me…。 so 7 or (3 Part 1 and 4 Part 2)。 Great to see everyone out of the Minnesota cold and down in the sunny climate of crime inf Strangely enough I would like to give this book either 3。5 stars or 7。 That is because I am more team Flowers than team Davenport。 Thought the first part of the book (mostly team Davenport) was somewhat telegraphed/ predictable。 But Sandford did a great job there setting up the second part of the book which brought in Flowers…。。and that is when the action picked up for me…。 so 7 or (3 Part 1 and 4 Part 2)。 Great to see everyone out of the Minnesota cold and down in the sunny climate of crime infested Florida and a shout out to Jersey and Staten Island。 Recommended。 。。。more

Another good book by John Sanford! What a good idea combining Virgil Flowers with Lucas Davenport。 Virgil was amazing undercover playing a stoner who is an excellent diver and his so called girlfriend Rae is sure a great shooter。 This book has a lot of twists and turns。 Please do another book with Lucas and Virgil!

3-3 1/2 Stars ✨ Not my favorite。 Very subjective。 Loved the diving angle。 Really not into mobster culture so that made it feel like a long read for me。 Just personal taste and perhaps 🤔 I just wasn’t in the mood。 I’ll be looking forward to another installment though。Note to self: FL, major drug ring, deep sea diving, high suspense, Davenport/Flowers combo novel。

I have to admit I am a HUGE John Sandford/Prey books fan。 I have read all 31 of them。 This one is extra special because it also has another fan fave, Virgil Flowers, in a starring role。 It begins with some really bad guys gunning down 3 Coast Guardsmen, a crime that the FBI can't get any traction on。 Enter Lucas Davenport of the US Marshalls, who seems to have no end of "friends in high places" and very few scruples when it comes to getting the bad guys。 A really shocking tragedy occurs, which w I have to admit I am a HUGE John Sandford/Prey books fan。 I have read all 31 of them。 This one is extra special because it also has another fan fave, Virgil Flowers, in a starring role。 It begins with some really bad guys gunning down 3 Coast Guardsmen, a crime that the FBI can't get any traction on。 Enter Lucas Davenport of the US Marshalls, who seems to have no end of "friends in high places" and very few scruples when it comes to getting the bad guys。 A really shocking tragedy occurs, which was upsetting, but it leads to Virgil entering the fray, along with Rae, another Marshall and some excellent undercover work。 Altogether, an excellent read。Keep them coming, Sandford。 。。。more

Sandford at his bestVirgil Flowers and Lucas Davenport are interesting, complex, and appealing characters, who get even better when combined。 The story is a good one, with enough twists to keep it interesting, but it’s the characters who really bring it to life。 If you’re a Sandford fan, you’ll enjoy this one!

A year without two separate books of Davenport and Flowers sees them join together in this latest "Prey" novel。 I don't know how John Sandford keeps up the pace but this one is as good as I expected! The humorous remorse peppered throughout the conversations in these books makes it impact here s does the pace and plotting。 Recommended A year without two separate books of Davenport and Flowers sees them join together in this latest "Prey" novel。 I don't know how John Sandford keeps up the pace but this one is as good as I expected! John Sandford is one of my favorite, predictably good authors。 And his books are even better on audio。 This time, Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers team up to track down some drug smugglers that killed three Coast Guardsmen in Florida。 It’s hard to find anything new to say about Sandford。 After all, this is the 31st book in the Davenport series。 Suffice it to say, the series isn’t getting stale。 The book has the strong story we expect。 Unlike other action thrillers, Sandford’s stories always se John Sandford is one of my favorite, predictably good authors。 And his books are even better on audio。 This time, Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers team up to track down some drug smugglers that killed three Coast Guardsmen in Florida。 It’s hard to find anything new to say about Sandford。 After all, this is the 31st book in the Davenport series。 Suffice it to say, the series isn’t getting stale。 The book has the strong story we expect。 Unlike other action thrillers, Sandford’s stories always seem believable。 Maybe it's because his characters are so enjoyable。 The dialogue is always spot on and typically brings a chuckle。 Richard Ferrone has narrated so many of these books, I think I’d hear his voice even if I were reading them rather than listening。 If by some odd chance, you haven’t read any of the book series, rectify that error immediately! It felt like it was written following a focus group; what worked in the previous Prey novels and give a heavy dose of it。 If John Sandford doesn't enjoy writing anymore, it may be a time to stop。 It felt like it was written following a focus group; what worked in the previous Prey novels and give a heavy dose of it。 If John Sandford doesn't enjoy writing anymore, it may be a time to stop。 。。。more

Avid ReaderThis was a bittersweet novel because a character that has been a Marshall and worked on several cases in two or three novels was killed。 Virgil was very much a part of the plot。 His laid back attitude fooled the most hardened criminals because they couldn't see him directing "a ham sandwich" spoken by one of the characters in the novel。 Lucas almost got killed, but he was injured by demo lock set。 I have to say that this is one of the writer's better books。 Lucas and Virgel with the a Avid ReaderThis was a bittersweet novel because a character that has been a Marshall and worked on several cases in two or three novels was killed。 Virgil was very much a part of the plot。 His laid back attitude fooled the most hardened criminals because they couldn't see him directing "a ham sandwich" spoken by one of the characters in the novel。 Lucas almost got killed, but he was injured by demo lock set。 I have to say that this is one of the writer's better books。 Lucas and Virgel with the assistance of Rae made an excellent team。 。。。more

I have not read any of Sandfords books with Lucas and Virgil in them that have disappointed me。 The story kept moving and I enjoyed it。 I have most if not all of Sandfords other books and I like his story telling。
