Summary

Awal dan akhirnya keren。 Di tengah-tengah agak lambat。 Buku ini agak terasa seperti "jembatan" antara buku 1 & 3。 Tapi senang bisa ketemu Nikolai lagi。 Dan ceritanya masih menarik。Novella-nya Genya di akhir buku mengingatkan bahwa The Darkling itu sifat manipulatif-nya udah mendarah daging ya。 Aku salut sama Leigh Bardugo yg udah bikin karakter villain menarik yg sikap manipulatifnya cerdas dan sangat terselubung sampai-sampai banyak yg mengidolakannya。Baca ulang ini baru sadar ada banyak banget Awal dan akhirnya keren。 Di tengah-tengah agak lambat。 Buku ini agak terasa seperti "jembatan" antara buku 1 & 3。 Tapi senang bisa ketemu Nikolai lagi。 Dan ceritanya masih menarik。Novella-nya Genya di akhir buku mengingatkan bahwa The Darkling itu sifat manipulatif-nya udah mendarah daging ya。 Aku salut sama Leigh Bardugo yg udah bikin karakter villain menarik yg sikap manipulatifnya cerdas dan sangat terselubung sampai-sampai banyak yg mengidolakannya。Baca ulang ini baru sadar ada banyak banget clue dari kejutan terbesar di buku ketiga yg ngga disadari sebelumnya。 。。。more

This book was definitely better than the first, although it was mostly very slow。 I did find myself re-reading whole pages since it was so easy to get distracted。 However, considering I liked the plot of this book better than the first, I am looking forward to the last book in the series。 :)

4/5 stars I am just not in the mood to write a really long review so let’s bullet point some thoughts。 - The timing I read this with was very weird and I kept pausing at the weirdest times so that made me very confused but it’s also my fault。- Pacing was interesting in a good way。- There were a few chapters where I was like why? Is this it’s own chapter? Is this it’s own chapter? Nothing happened in the last 15 pages?- Leigh Bardugo endings are another level。 Every time, I think there’s no way it could be wrapped up in like 20 pages but every time it is and it’s the most action packed 20 pages you’ve ever read。 And then it just perfectly sets up the next book。 Chefs kiss。- Did I speed read the last 50 pages and confuse myself? Maybe。 Did I also cry? Maybe- As much as I enjoy this series, it never can be perfect for me because none of the characters feel 100% fleshed out to me。。。 My favorite part of books is when it feels like the characters are real- when I could literally predict how they’ll react to a certain situation or their specific facial expressions (lol) and as much as I love Alina, this doesn’t do that for me。- But at the same time I love this world and returning to the Little Palace and meeting Sturmhond (I’m trying to make this spoiler free lol) and letting Alina do her thing was nice and getting to see how she deals with power is awesome。 - Again, WHY DO Y’ALL HATE MAL AND MALINA。 This book was very frustrating because Alina wouldn’t freaking tell him what’s wrong but they’re so perfect for each other- And also um why do y’all ship Darklina? No thanks- Yay I like :) 。。。more

It starts quite interesting and ends with a bang。 I loved the new characters that are introduced in this book。 I thought it was quite interesting how the author narrates her thoughts and struggles and the duality in her。

Um。 Hm。 Well, the pirate (privateer) made this whole thing worth it。 I'm not sure what else happened in the book, to be honest。 I love angst, but I feel like the whole middle section was a weird socio-political training montage that went on a little long, with a LOT of angst。 But then, maybe that's just me。 Um。 Hm。 Well, the pirate (privateer) made this whole thing worth it。 I'm not sure what else happened in the book, to be honest。 I love angst, but I feel like the whole middle section was a weird socio-political training montage that went on a little long, with a LOT of angst。 But then, maybe that's just me。 。。。more

I read this one via audiobook at two times speed, so I don't think all of it absorbed into my long term storage the way it should have, but here are some thoughts。1) Genya deserved better。 It frustrates me to no end that she was so diminished by the Darkling。 I really hope she comes back to fight or something because that's what I feel like she would do。 2) I understand why people don't like Mal as much in this one。 Even though it was obviously ¨middle of the plot filler tension¨, for we couldn' I read this one via audiobook at two times speed, so I don't think all of it absorbed into my long term storage the way it should have, but here are some thoughts。1) Genya deserved better。 It frustrates me to no end that she was so diminished by the Darkling。 I really hope she comes back to fight or something because that's what I feel like she would do。 2) I understand why people don't like Mal as much in this one。 Even though it was obviously ¨middle of the plot filler tension¨, for we couldn't let the destined couple have a completely smooth relationship, I still think they both have terrible communication skills and a lot could have been resolved better if they just talked honestly to one another。3) Nikolai is an interesting and charming character。 Not sure right now if I would read two additional books about him, but that doesn't mean I don't like him。 He reminds me a bit of Monty from The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue。4) I'll be interested to see what the TV show does with the second season。 I feel like the inclusion of the Crows was a good move because it can beef up some of the plot, since there are some parts of S&S where not much happens except planning and preparing for the Darkling, which could get boring pretty quickly。5) Don't really understand the purpose of the Apparat。 Seems like he has a lot of wasted potential and keeps being thrown back into the plot every once in a while。 。。。more

I wanted to finish the series before the show but I got super busy and honestly wasn’t too interested in this book。 I love action and this book fell short and was a little more boring。 It felt like one big filler chapter。 But I honestly didn’t mind it

I don't know how to word my thoughts of this book, but i am extremely anxious to read the next one。 I love that Alina is becoming more morally grey as the books progress and the difficulties the characters face have an actual effect on them。 I don't know how to word my thoughts of this book, but i am extremely anxious to read the next one。 I love that Alina is becoming more morally grey as the books progress and the difficulties the characters face have an actual effect on them。 。。。more

A great sequelAfter reading shadow and bone I dove straight into Siege and Storm。 Alina becomes more interesting the further through the books and I loved some of the new characters being introduced here。 Especially Nikolai。 He brought some really good humour to the book and I just generally enjoyed all his scenes。 I have however discovered I don't like Mal。 His character is just very unlikeable to me and I'm not sure that's what the author intended。 I'll be interested to see if they can redeem A great sequelAfter reading shadow and bone I dove straight into Siege and Storm。 Alina becomes more interesting the further through the books and I loved some of the new characters being introduced here。 Especially Nikolai。 He brought some really good humour to the book and I just generally enjoyed all his scenes。 I have however discovered I don't like Mal。 His character is just very unlikeable to me and I'm not sure that's what the author intended。 I'll be interested to see if they can redeem his character in the final book。 The Darkling is a great character as a villain but also love interest。 Would be be good for Alina, or her good for him。 I sympathise a lot more with the Darkling in comparison to Mal, he just seems much better written with more character。 The listening experience is still really great and Lauren again captures everything really well。 。。。more

i liked this a LOT better than shadow and bone。 i appreciated how the focus was more on alina's character and explored her character development。 there were some cringe romance-y moments with nikolai which im not sure were necessary to the plot, but i LOVEEE his character。 i hope to see more of him (separate from the alina romance because that simply is not a ship i'm a fan of)。also, DON'T BOO ME but i still really, really like mal。 and im quite confused why he has so many haters。 sure his respo i liked this a LOT better than shadow and bone。 i appreciated how the focus was more on alina's character and explored her character development。 there were some cringe romance-y moments with nikolai which im not sure were necessary to the plot, but i LOVEEE his character。 i hope to see more of him (separate from the alina romance because that simply is not a ship i'm a fan of)。also, DON'T BOO ME but i still really, really like mal。 and im quite confused why he has so many haters。 sure his response to alina's growing power wasn't great, but he's human nonetheless。 and don't forget he's basically viewed as inferior by everyone around him at the little palace。 of course he wants to leave。 there's a quote from alina that i think resonated with mal's behavior; it was something along the lines of how she was sorry she had retaliated when he asked of her something she had been demanding of him this entire time。 ANYWAYS-- great sequel。 really looking forward to how this all ends!!! p。s。 i would die for david and genya。 。。。more

(Even with the surprise cliffhanger at the end。) The only reason I'm handing out halfsie ratings for this one is thanks to my fav of all faves: (view spoiler)[ Nikolai (hide spoiler)] without him, this book would be an easy "meh。"I'm hoping the finale is better, I won't be in a hurry to pick it up soon。3 /⭐️⭐️⭐️。25 stars。 。。。more
