Yes, I’m reading this without having seen/read any previous Dragon Ball content。 I got this volume from a mystery book box, so I’ll admit it wasn’t my first choice。 I was a bit confused at first, but it was pretty entertaining! I wish I had the rest of the manga now。。。

The first two volumes of Dragon Ball Super were some of my least favorite Dragon Ball content。 It's not necessarily that the story is bad, it's just that it's so clearly retrofitting the plot from the anime in such a small amount of space that it made the whole affair extremely cluttered。 There was an incredibly important plot line that was relegated to an off-panel explainer in the manga。Reading volume three, it's clear that Toriyama wasn't all that interested in the first arc of the anime and The first two volumes of Dragon Ball Super were some of my least favorite Dragon Ball content。 It's not necessarily that the story is bad, it's just that it's so clearly retrofitting the plot from the anime in such a small amount of space that it made the whole affair extremely cluttered。 There was an incredibly important plot line that was relegated to an off-panel explainer in the manga。Reading volume three, it's clear that Toriyama wasn't all that interested in the first arc of the anime and wanted to get to the Goku Black saga that begins here。 Almost all of my complaints from the previous volumes have been rectified。 Toriyama now let's the story breathe a bit more and it reads like a pretty traditional late Dragon Ball Z story。 Unlike the first two volumes, I'm enjoying the manga version of the story more than the anime。 Now that Toriyama is free to expand where necessary, cut any anime-style filler, and establish the manga as a more separate entity, he's back in rare form。 Toyotaro does a good job of illustrating in what I'd consider the late Dragon Ball house style。 It's a bit less cartoony than Toriyama's early work on the series, but the style here is practically indistinguishable from what fans of the anime will recognize。I am knocking the volume a bit because of my personal feelings towards time travel arcs。 The original Trunks/Android saga from Z was good, but there is a certain point here where the story starts to become quite convoluted。 There's time travel, alternate timelines, alternate universes, and multiple versions of the same character existing at the same time in spots。 It can be pretty confusing。 I can't help wonder what my experience would have been with the material if I hadn't already watched the corresponding anime and was now experiencing the story for the second time。 I'll note that it was one of my least favorite sagas from the show, so far。 All that being said, it still felt to me like a classic Dragon Ball mix of top notch action and intermingled gags。 After putting off reading this volume for a while based on my experience with the first two, I'm happy to report that I'm looking forward to getting back to it more regularly once again。 。。。more

The reason I chose this book is because I am a huge Dragon Ball fan。 One thing I appreciate about this book is its huge story because it has great detail and very vivid characters。 One character in my book is a saiyajin named son Goku san, he is the protagonist and the one who usually saves the day。

This is actually pretty damn entertaining even if follows a lot of the same beats as Z。 So Trunks comes back from the future to warn Goku and the others about a new villain。 BLACK GOKU。 So yes。。。his name is very original。 But come on, we got Vegeta's kids named after trunks and bras, so。。。lolz。 Anyway Black Goku has destroyed Future Trunks timeline or least taken over。 It's kind of what he does。 So Goku and Vegeta decide they're going to teach this little punk a lesson。 The battle scenes are pre This is actually pretty damn entertaining even if follows a lot of the same beats as Z。 So Trunks comes back from the future to warn Goku and the others about a new villain。 BLACK GOKU。 So yes。。。his name is very original。 But come on, we got Vegeta's kids named after trunks and bras, so。。。lolz。 Anyway Black Goku has destroyed Future Trunks timeline or least taken over。 It's kind of what he does。 So Goku and Vegeta decide they're going to teach this little punk a lesson。 The battle scenes are pretty great here, and Vegeta finally gets to show off his fighting style again。 I also thought there was some great freaking funny moments, one involving Goku not ever Kissing anyone。 I think the pacing works though some scenes are very heavy exposition explaining the gods structure and stuff that tend to go on a little too long。 Overall, while this is only half of the full arc, it still is pretty entertaining。 Hoping this series continues to be fun。 A 3。5 out of 5。 。。。more

While the story arcs are fun and feature some exciting battles, I have a tough time wrapping my head around all these colour-saiyans that are being introduced。 How can I even take them seriously? It used to be awesome that hard work led to new levels of super saiyan but in this case, you get to reach new heights through failure。The story also explores new ideas that bring a new amount of intrigue but sometimes struggles to make it as compelling as it could be。It remains to be seen if this story While the story arcs are fun and feature some exciting battles, I have a tough time wrapping my head around all these colour-saiyans that are being introduced。 How can I even take them seriously? The Zero Mortals Plan, AKA the Goku Black Arc, is in full swing。 This series feels long-winded but is lacking substance。 Like, the pieces for a cool story are all here but I'm so underwhelmed by it all。 There's no heart in this, it's not a passion project it's fanservice but not really。。。it's a cash grab。 Future Trunks is boring, even with his new love interest。 The jokes are lame and feel forced and inconsistent。 The canon version of timeline was muddy to begin with and this volume really destr The Zero Mortals Plan, AKA the Goku Black Arc, is in full swing。 This series feels long-winded but is lacking substance。 Like, the pieces for a cool story are all here but I'm so underwhelmed by it all。 There's no heart in this, it's not a passion project it's fanservice but not really。。。it's a cash grab。 Future Trunks is boring, even with his new love interest。 The jokes are lame and feel forced and inconsistent。 The canon version of timeline was muddy to begin with and this volume really destroys any lore they'd developed and makes it an even messier plot。 The basic idea is Zama, a Lord of Lords from Universe 10, has used time travel and teamed up with another timeline's version of himself to possess Goku and kill all of Earth's mortals。 So Future Trunks gets Vegeta and Goku to help defeat them but they have a fool-proof plan。 Zamas is immortal, has killed the Shenlong, and Goku Black has healing properties that keep making him stronger。 The Lord of Lords has been killed along with that timeline's Beerus during the defeat of Bobbodi and Dabura。 And then there's a lot of fighting。 And Super Saiyan Rose cause Black can't turn Blue。 And that's it folks。 。。。more

The story is finally getting back to the Z roots, digging the story a lot more now, but that extra level of Super Saiyan Rosé felt really unnecessary, two new saiyan levels on three volumes, are we gonna go through the entire color spectrum?! Also, the saiyans never improved their power the way Black Goku did, they managed to do it through training, not by taking a beating, he's not even able to reach super saiyan at the beginning of the fight, makes no sense whatsoever。 The story is finally getting back to the Z roots, digging the story a lot more now, but that extra level of Super Saiyan Rosé felt really unnecessary, two new saiyan levels on three volumes, are we gonna go through the entire color spectrum?! Wow, out of all three of these first three volumes, this is my favorite, so far! The introduction of the Future Trunks Arc, in the last volume, was interesting, but now I’m completely sold on the arc。 There’s so many great ideas being utilized, here。 It actually feels like Dragon Ball Z, again, for the first time in so long。 I’d definitely recommend it to you, if you haven’t read it, yet。 Even if the first two volumes weren’t excellent, this one absolutely is!
