Summary

An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living。 In a matter of months, society has crumbled: There is no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV。 In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally begin living。 This volume follows our band of survivors on their tragic journey in search of shelter。 Characters live and die as they brave a treacherous landscape littered with packs of the walking dead。

read this in single issues with TWD Deluxe。 The colour really revives the series for me。 I think i stopped reading originally here with the omnibus but the Deluxe edition has kept my attention。I always found that I couldn't tell a lot of the characters apart, particularly Andrea and Carol for some reason, so this has helped。Enjoying the run read this in single issues with TWD Deluxe。 The colour really revives the series for me。 I think i stopped reading originally here with the omnibus but the Deluxe edition has kept my attention。I always found that I couldn't tell a lot of the characters apart, particularly Andrea and Carol for some reason, so this has helped。Enjoying the run 。。。more

The art work is just outstanding and the amount of detail in each image is crazy。 I love the character driven story, the people seem so real and like with most things you have characters you like and dislike more than others。 I find the images and words easy to follow and understand what's going on and you can distinguish who's who quite easily。 The art work is just outstanding and the amount of detail in each image is crazy。 I love the character driven story, the people seem so real and like with most things you have characters you like and dislike more than others。 I find the images and words easy to follow and understand what's going on and you can distinguish who's who quite easily。 。。。more

➶ 2021 books: 44/60Ahh I loved this just as much as the first volume! I absolutely adore finding comparisons between the comics and the show!

It’s kinda fun reading this after the tv show and discovering how many these season length setups are just a few pages in the books。 I struggled with the artwork in this one though。 On the one hand I loved the ruggedness, it seems apt, but on the other it felt inconsistent and less expressive than you might imagine。 Also did Hershel look a little too like Rick to anyone? Possibly a deliberate reflection of the situations they all found themselves in, but while Kirkman does a great job in bringing to the fore the human challenges which the characters are likely to have in reaction to circumstances, he rushes through their emotions which, like the art, left me a little dissatisfied that he hasn’t delved even a tiny bit deeper。 。。。more

This is unremittingly bleak, purposefully so, but bleak all the same。 The atmosphere is oppressive and the odd moments of hope or levity only seek to highlight the helplessness of their situation。On a re-read, when not racing to see what happens next, the character interactions are a lot more enjoyable and really add a lot of depth to this。The art works, I was pretty harsh on the art first time round and wouldn't actually mind seeing it in colour, but the art does work。 This is unremittingly bleak, purposefully so, but bleak all the same。 The atmosphere is oppressive and the odd moments of hope or levity only seek to highlight the helplessness of their situation。On a re-read, when not racing to see what happens next, the character interactions are a lot more enjoyable and really add a lot of depth to this。The art works, I was pretty harsh on the art first time round and wouldn't actually mind seeing it in colour, but the art does work。 。。。more

I'm probably underselling this volume because I've watched the TV series but the time at the gate community and the farm seemed PAINFULLY short to me and there seemed to be no time to let the storyline develop and breathe。 I really liked the story but just seemed like a breakneck pace。 I'm probably underselling this volume because I've watched the TV series but the time at the gate community and the farm seemed PAINFULLY short to me and there seemed to be no time to let the storyline develop and breathe。 I really liked the story but just seemed like a breakneck pace。 。。。more

Decent issue。 I liked where the TV series went with the farm/Herschel character better, but this was still pretty darn solid writing。

Adding on from the previous volume, this entry steps it up with some good character development, escalating plot threads, and a few nice panels to appeal art critics。 You will likely notice the difference in art style from the previous volume early on。 Tony Moore is replaced by Charlie Adlard, an artist with distinct enthusiasm for noir-ish inking and penciling。 I might not personally care for this new drawing style, but it does not do much to hamper a strong build up of characters and story。The Adding on from the previous volume, this entry steps it up with some good character development, escalating plot threads, and a few nice panels to appeal art critics。 You will likely notice the difference in art style from the previous volume early on。 Tony Moore is replaced by Charlie Adlard, an artist with distinct enthusiasm for noir-ish inking and penciling。 I might not personally care for this new drawing style, but it does not do much to hamper a strong build up of characters and story。The Rick Grimes crew has each slowly become sufficiently known to us readers, and, while some of them are not the most likable, they certainly feel human。 More importantly, they also feel breakable。 Each has suffered in some way, and they are desperately trying to avoid losing who they are。 This is really good drama。 It allows us to not only empathize with each character, but fear that one of them is going to snap, resulting in the destruction of the peace that they are trying to maintain。 Kirkman does an excellent job of keeping us interested with these dynamics, even more so with the story。The story, as you could probably tell from the first volume, is an epic, first hand view of a zombie apocalypse。 This becomes far more apparent in this volume。 There are no chapter breaks, no interruptions, and no separations from the main cast。 If you were to replace the graphic novel format with anything else, it would be a journal。 It would likely only end when every human had gone to the grave。 This volume has begun to prove that this story is worthy of your attention。 If you had doubts from the first volume, I suggest you take a gander at this one。 。。。more
