Summary

Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller is back on the job in this heart-stopping thriller from a renowned #1 New York Times bestselling author。

“One of the finest legal thrillers of the last decade” —Associated Press

On the night he celebrates a big win, defense attorney Mickey Haller is pulled over by police, who find the body of a former client in the trunk of his Lincoln。 Haller is immediately charged with murder but can’t post the exorbitant $5 million bail slapped on him by a vindictive judge。

Mickey elects to represent himself and is forced to mount his defense from his jail cell in the Twin Towers Correctional Center in downtown Los Angeles。 All the while he needs to look over his shoulder—as an officer of the court he is an instant target, and he makes few friends when he reveals a corruption plot within the jail。

But the bigger plot is the one against him。 Haller knows he’s been framed, whether by a new enemy or an old one。 As his trusted team, including his half-brother, Harry Bosch, investigates, Haller must use all his skills in the courtroom to counter the damning evidence against him。

Even if he can obtain a not-guilty verdict, Mickey understands that it won’t be enough。 In order to be truly exonerated, he must find out who really committed the murder and why。 That is the law of innocence。

In his highest stakes case yet, the Lincoln Lawyer fights for his life and proves again why he is “a worthy colleague of Atticus Finch 。 。 。 in the front of the pack in the legal thriller game” (Los Angeles Times)。

A bit far-fetched, but enjoyable as always!

This is the second in this series I have read。 I need to read more。 The books have great characters, great plots。

I hadn't read a Lincoln Lawyer book since the first one in 2005 and totally enjoyed getting back to the legal world of Mickey Haller。 I think the thing that jumped out at me was the way lawyers look at building a case, how to choose a jury, what points to argue, what points to let drop。 In many ways it was a legal procedural much like his Bosch books are police procedurals。 I really enjoyed looking into Haller's mind as he went through the entire process from getting pulled over until the last g I hadn't read a Lincoln Lawyer book since the first one in 2005 and totally enjoyed getting back to the legal world of Mickey Haller。 I think the thing that jumped out at me was the way lawyers look at building a case, how to choose a jury, what points to argue, what points to let drop。 In many ways it was a legal procedural much like his Bosch books are police procedurals。 I really enjoyed looking into Haller's mind as he went through the entire process from getting pulled over until the last gavel。Another interesting note was weaving the covid virus and developing pandemic into the story。 This was the first book I've read that has used that as part of a side plot-line。 Mickey Haller is a great character so I may have to go back to some of his earlier books。 。。。more

The Lincoln Lawyer was a great book but unfortunately, this isn't。 In fact, its almost hard to believe this is written by the same author。 Haller is in all kinds of bother pretty early on but the theme of the book is that he always circumvents problems far, far, far too easily。 Character X will put his life savings to bail Haller out of jail because he owes him。 His prosecutor ex-wife will work defense for him。 Character Y will work pro bono。 His daughter is a super smart lawyer, etc, etc。 He and The Lincoln Lawyer was a great book but unfortunately, this isn't。 In fact, its almost hard to believe this is written by the same author。 Haller is in all kinds of bother pretty early on but the theme of the book is that he always circumvents problems far, far, far too easily。 Character X will put his life savings to bail Haller out of jail because he owes him。 His prosecutor ex-wife will work defense for him。 Character Y will work pro bono。 His daughter is a super smart lawyer, etc, etc。 He and his team connect the dots on the conspiracy far too easily, and even when Haller gets roughed up pretty bad, 2 pages later you'd never know it had happened。 The other "characters" are more like props & it's like the book is written for kids。 The ending is also the biggest anti-climax imaginable, & I could have done without the increasing mentions of Coronavirus。 I read to get away from such nonsense。 。。。more

I was really enjoying the read until it went political, and sickening so。I have read so many of this author’s books, but this one may be my last。The premise was good, although the police really get black eyes, and you are made to think that they are tied up in illegal activities。You might want to think twice about picking this one up!

Domstolsdeckare är väl inte min favorit, men denna var ok。

This is only the second Michael Connelly book I have read, having been disappointed with The Lincoln Lawyer。 But this was a surprise。 I enjoyed it。 Good story and held my interest from the start even though it is a fairly standard lawyer/courtroom tale。

Well done, Mr。 C。

Phil Polishuk

Solid but unspectaular

So, so good! One of my favorites in the series so far。

Bruce Hopkins

I enjoy all Michael Connelly crime novels。 The premise that Mickey Haller would be locked up and not afford bail is a little unbelievable, but the familiar characters are welcome。

Tessa White

The normal easy read, gripping twists ans turns。。 just good enjoyment in a crime novel

I read my first Michael Connelly book, The Concrete Blonde, shortly after it was released, based on its being nominated for an award (I believe the Edgar, but can’t remember)。 I went back and read his first two, and have been reading everything he writes as soon as I can get my hands on it ever since。 I have enjoyed every one, some of course more than others。 This may be his best。 Incredible to say that when the protagonist is not my favorite of his (I like Harry much more), as well as the fact I read my first Michael Connelly book, The Concrete Blonde, shortly after it was released, based on its being nominated for an award (I believe the Edgar, but can’t remember)。 I went back and read his first two, and have been reading everything he writes as soon as I can get my hands on it ever since。 I have enjoyed every one, some of course more than others。 This may be his best。 Incredible to say that when the protagonist is not my favorite of his (I like Harry much more), as well as the fact that I generally do not read legal procedural, as I am a lawyer and tend to see all the errors and fabrications (plus it’s what I do all day, and it sort of feels like bringing my work home with me)。 Again, I positively tore through this。 The story was riveting, the reveals clever and surprising, the threats drew me in, and the courtroom stuff was really well-written, the ending was a bit of a let down, as I wanted a certain kind of closure which I didn’t get, but it worked with the rest of the story。 Lastly, the COVID element was so well done。 Connelly continues to raise the bar, one that few others can even hope to try to reach, and I am grateful for his work。 。。。more

A profound title。 I am usually a big fan of Bosch, not so much of Haller。 I am reading this book because Bosch is in it。 It is an interesting story plot。 Because he is a defence lawyer, he has been considered a ‘villain’ or guilty , just like the people he represents, murderers thief’s, or scums 。 I guess on the surface he has always been misunderstood。 His thinking was that these people are entitled to legal representation regardless of guilt or not。 The due process is for everyone and someone A profound title。 I am usually a big fan of Bosch, not so much of Haller。 I am reading this book because Bosch is in it。 It is an interesting story plot。 Because he is a defence lawyer, he has been considered a ‘villain’ or guilty , just like the people he represents, murderers thief’s, or scums 。 I guess on the surface he has always been misunderstood。 His thinking was that these people are entitled to legal representation regardless of guilt or not。 The due process is for everyone and someone has to be there to represent them, henceforth, he is there to do the job。 I like the part where he described that for the Law of Innocence to work, it is not just to prove not guilty or NG, someone has to be guilty。 Very profound and interesting concept indeed。 Am now looking forward to another Haller’s book。 。。。more

Another great murder mystery courtroom drama by Michael Connolly about one of the main characters in his books, Micky Haller, a defense lawyer who is set up by the police for a murder he didn't commit。 He handles his own defense。 Another great murder mystery courtroom drama by Michael Connolly about one of the main characters in his books, Micky Haller, a defense lawyer who is set up by the police for a murder he didn't commit。 He handles his own defense。 。。。more

This is my first in the Lincoln Lawyer series, and I enjoyed it quite a bit。 A murder thriller where the investigators don't have to use illegal hacks into computer systems, they don't have to use their superior physical skills to subdue bad guys and they don't have an unlimited pool of wealth to tap into。 What they do have are strong friendships, knowledge of the law, and even more importantly, knowledge of how the system works and how to use it to their advantage。 Kind of chilling to get a pea This is my first in the Lincoln Lawyer series, and I enjoyed it quite a bit。 A murder thriller where the investigators don't have to use illegal hacks into computer systems, they don't have to use their superior physical skills to subdue bad guys and they don't have an unlimited pool of wealth to tap into。 What they do have are strong friendships, knowledge of the law, and even more importantly, knowledge of how the system works and how to use it to their advantage。 Kind of chilling to get a peak into the back rooms of judicial process。 。。。more
