Summary

New York Times Bestseller: Thought leader, visionary, philanthropist, mystic, and yogi Sadhguru presents Western readers with a time-tested path to achieving absolute well-being: the classical science of yoga。

The practice of hatha yoga, as we commonly know it, is but one of eight branches of the body of knowledge that is yoga。 In fact, yoga is a sophisticated system of self-empowerment that is capable of harnessing and activating inner energies in such a way that your body and mind function at their optimal capacity。 It is a means to create inner situations exactly the way you want them, turning you into the architect of your own joy。

A yogi lives life in this expansive state, and in this transformative book Sadhguru tells the story of his own awakening, from a boy with an unusual affinity for the natural world to a young daredevil who crossed the Indian continent on his motorcycle。 He relates the moment of his enlightenment on a mountaintop in southern India, where time stood still and he emerged radically changed。 Today, as the founder of Isha, an organization devoted to humanitarian causes, he lights the path for millions。 The term guru, he notes, means “dispeller of darkness, someone who opens the door for you。 。 。 。 As a guru, I have no doctrine to teach, no philosophy to impart, no belief to propagate。 And that is because the only solution for all the ills that plague humanity is self-transformation。 Self-transformation means that nothing of the old remains。 It is a dimensional shift in the way you perceive and experience life。” The wisdom distilled in this accessible, profound, and engaging book offers readers time-tested tools that are fresh, alive, and radiantly new。 Inner Engineering presents a revolutionary way of thinking about our agency and our humanity and the opportunity to achieve nothing less than a life of joy。

First half of the book is good。 Kind of like essays on difficult topics or aspects in life。 But the next half felt a little to stretched and filled with mumbo jumbo。 May be it's true and he knows what he's talking about and I'm the ignorant one but it doesn't do a better job at convincing me at least。 But still 4 stars for the first half。 Must read fore that。 He talks about regular things differently which is interesting and widens your perspective a little。 First half of the book is good。 Kind of like essays on difficult topics or aspects in life。 But the next half felt a little to stretched and filled with mumbo jumbo。 May be it's true and he knows what he's talking about and I'm the ignorant one but it doesn't do a better job at convincing me at least。 But still 4 stars for the first half。 Must read fore that。 He talks about regular things differently which is interesting and widens your perspective a little。 。。。more

4。5 stars for a yoga book。 Really enjoyed listening since the author was the narrator。

3。5 stars"There is a way out。 And the way out is in。"The message of sadhguru is clear: we are the generation with the most resources yet the one that suffers most from anxiety and depression。 To truly enjoy life we have to look within and do the work。 Although I don't agree with all sadhguru's teachings, most of Them are quite practical。 Overall, I think it's a good book to read when you need to stop, breathe and reevaluate your day to day。 3。5 stars"There is a way out。 And the way out is in。"The message of sadhguru is clear: we are the generation with the most resources yet the one that suffers most from anxiety and depression。 To truly enjoy life we have to look within and do the work。 Although I don't agree with all sadhguru's teachings, most of Them are quite practical。 Overall, I think it's a good book to read when you need to stop, breathe and reevaluate your day to day。 。。。more

Sadhguru is an immensely wise being that I love listening to on youtube as I work。 I thought, why not read his book as well? I must say, I read this book in a few days because each and every word resonated with something very profound within me。He has his silly, poking-fun way of expressing ideas and encouraging our own wisdom which kept this book lively。 At times he reminds me of an Indian dad which speaks as if they know everything。 There was a couple moments in the book where this showed thro Sadhguru is an immensely wise being that I love listening to on youtube as I work。 I thought, why not read his book as well? I must say, I read this book in a few days because each and every word resonated with something very profound within me。He has his silly, poking-fun way of expressing ideas and encouraging our own wisdom which kept this book lively。 At times he reminds me of an Indian dad which speaks as if they know everything。 There was a couple moments in the book where this showed through, such as when he talked about a true yogi knows they do not know anything, and then a page later saying we know that something like keeping in close touch with the elements cultivates our greatest well-being。Well of course the Universe moves in contradictions at times so I'm not mad at that。 I'm sure Sadhguru himself is aware of his flaws as a person, because though he transmits wisdom from the Infinite, he is also human and capable of the hiccups of personality。 Nonetheless, one can sense the great emptiness he pulls from and the lack of dogma in these teachings。The main reason we can both know and not know is by testing it out ourselves。 This is the root of the science of yoga, and I am really excited that he is correcting the view of yoga into an empirical science of sorts。 People have distorted, diluted and colonized this deep holistic science and its time we all understand what it really is。 For both beginner and experiences yoga practitioner, this book will expand your consciousness。 Yoga is essentially a practice so the body/dietary and psychological aspects this book discusses needs to be integrated within our daily lives, then the spiritual component becomes apparent。 I hope you give yourself a chance to improve your understanding of yoga and its impact through this book 🙏🏽 。。。more

I like the idea, but it was a miss for me。 Preferred the second half to the first, and enjoyed the Sadhana’s throughout。 What resonated most with me was bowing down to what you can not fathom or control (essentially giving up the need to worry) and imagining if you were alone on the planet, what would your dreams be? It’s inspirational because as a mother, wife, sister, and friend, you define your dreams within bounds。 I liked imagining my separate life without any strings or titles, where would I like the idea, but it was a miss for me。 Preferred the second half to the first, and enjoyed the Sadhana’s throughout。 What resonated most with me was bowing down to what you can not fathom or control (essentially giving up the need to worry) and imagining if you were alone on the planet, what would your dreams be? What would I do? The big piece I didn’t like was the call to how present day yoga is akin to a stillborn baby。 1) unnecessary call out 2) yoga still does things for plenty more people because of its modern take。 The criticism degraded his authority in my opinion。 TL;DR- because I didn’t enjoy it, I skimmed it looking for the nuggets and will bring two with me out of the book。 。。。more

A soft and appetizing introduction to the man who seems to channel that lovely and tragically rare quality of 20th century contemplative philosophers like Jiddu, Huxley, Jung and Watts, best termed by the latter as the irreducible rascality of man。

Really wanted to love this book but only kinda liked it。 Some parts were interesting, some parts made me laugh out loud, but a lot of it was very vague。 I felt in over my head and had a hard time concentrating for much of it。 3。5 stars。

A nightstand staple。 I will be going through this book to practice the Sadhana’s daily。 I love his honest and approachable teachings。

The world would probably be a better place if ever Christian had to read this book。 He seems a little dogmatic at times despite his opening argument that yoga is about experimentation and not dogmatic。 Still, there is much good sense and some profound insights in this book。

3 stars because the first part of the book was really lovely。 Very nice ideas which I’ve taken a lot from。 Love the idea of finding your own joy from within, looking inward and the empowerment of responsibility etc。 Loved his own personal story and the autobiographical element。 Unfortunately, the second section really didn’t vibe with me。 It started off well, discussing breathing and yoga but the rest seemed really messy to me。 Lots of unsupported ideas thrown out there, which didn’t lead to any 3 stars because the first part of the book was really lovely。 Very nice ideas which I’ve taken a lot from。 Love the idea of finding your own joy from within, looking inward and the empowerment of responsibility etc。 Loved his own personal story and the autobiographical element。 Unfortunately, the second section really didn’t vibe with me。 It started off well, discussing breathing and yoga but the rest seemed really messy to me。 Lots of unsupported ideas thrown out there, which didn’t lead to any conclusions or final points。 Which left me feeling a bit confused and frustrated。 Also I felt like the author contradicted himself at times。 I’d recommend this book to most people, but the second section has to be taken quite lightly。 Or just skip it entirely! If it was more condensed and refined, I may have made more sense of it towards the end。 Ultimately, this is one man’s philosophy and I think you should take from it what you can, which may have a positive impact on your outlook and life。 Despite what he says, not everything in this book is fact。 。。。more

I don’t like giving out 5 stars like they’re Halloween candy but this was great。 Shows the true origin and meaning behind Yoga, showing it as the spiritual practice it is as opposed to a form exercise。 A lot of good information within this book about mind, body and energy。
