Summary
In this sequel to The Storm Whale， the boy， Noi， is caught in a storm at sea and his whale friend comes to his rescue。
When Noi's dad sails out on one last fishing trip before winter， Noi waits for him at home。 But as the storm worsens and his dad does not return， Noi decides to go looking for his dad。 But the storm is powerful and dangerous， and soon Noi， too， is stuck in the icy sea。 When it seems that all hope is lost， a friend comes to help Noi and his father。 Poignant and evocative， this is a beautiful celebration of friendship and family， and the special bond between a father and son。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 A perfect follow-up book from 'The Storm Whale'。 This book touches on many important themes such as friendship， courage/bravery and teamwork。 These could all be discussed in a PSHCE lesson （or several） using the book as a reference to where these have occurred。 As i was reading this book， i felt myself becoming emotionally attached to the main character， Noi， and felt worried for him when he got lost on the frozen sea and couldn't find his dad。 - This could also be discussed with children， askin A perfect follow-up book from 'The Storm Whale'。 This book touches on many important themes such as friendship， courage/bravery and teamwork。 These could all be discussed in a PSHCE lesson （or several） using the book as a reference to where these have occurred。 As i was reading this book， i felt myself becoming emotionally attached to the main character， Noi， and felt worried for him when he got lost on the frozen sea and couldn't find his dad。 - This could also be discussed with children， asking questions such as 'how did this make you feel？ How would you feel if you were in Noi's shoes？ Where do you think Noi's dad may be？'Davies' illustrations throughout this book help to tell the story and i like the use dark tones and different shades of blue 。 This is because I would associate these with winter and night time。 I particularly like the way in which the sea has been painted in the page where the storm whales are pushing the boat towards the lighthouse。 The text in this book is big and clear and therefore this would be great to use as a whole class sharing text as each child would be able to follow the story through the pictures and the text。 For younger children， the pictures would be really effective as they tell the story well and without the text， the reader is able to get a general idea of what is happening。 I would definitely recommend reading this book。 。。。more
