Summary

In this sequel to The Storm Whale, the boy, Noi, is caught in a storm at sea and his whale friend comes to his rescue。

When Noi's dad sails out on one last fishing trip before winter, Noi waits for him at home。 But as the storm worsens and his dad does not return, Noi decides to go looking for his dad。 But the storm is powerful and dangerous, and soon Noi, too, is stuck in the icy sea。 When it seems that all hope is lost, a friend comes to help Noi and his father。 Poignant and evocative, this is a beautiful celebration of friendship and family, and the special bond between a father and son。

Quite cute and a nice surprise (did not expect this to turn into a series!), but I enjoyed the first book more。

A sequel to ‘The Storm Whale’, where Noi’s dad goes out on his boat but doesn’t return。 Noi ventures into the icy ocean to find his dad。 Although Noi’s dad’s boat is found, dad is not。 The storm whale and its family find Noi and help to return the boat back to the Lighthouse, where dad is waiting。A lovely story which shows that friends can be depended on and the importance of helping each other。

A fantastic sequel to The Storm Whale。 I love that it's clear Noi and his Dad have come closer together since their experiences in the first book。 I noticed a portrait of a woman on the wall as Noi is leaving the house, I wonder if this is his mother? You could create a whole backstory for Noi and his Dad, they have so much depth to them。 I also noticed the seagulls with the jam sandwich on the final page which made me chuckle。 Benji always includes subtle nods to his other texts and little quir A fantastic sequel to The Storm Whale。 I love that it's clear Noi and his Dad have come closer together since their experiences in the first book。 I noticed a portrait of a woman on the wall as Noi is leaving the house, I wonder if this is his mother? Another great story by Davies。 Noi is remembering the storm whale he rescued last summer。 Noi's dad doesn't return from the sea one night so Noi goes out to find him。 He is struggling and his storm whale comes, with his family, to help Noi。 The boy is reunited with his dad。 A lovely story of friendship and hope。 If children have experiences of losing a parent or someone close to them the book may be too upsetting for them as at one point it appears the dad may have died/be lost at sea。 Depending Another great story by Davies。 Noi is remembering the storm whale he rescued last summer。 Noi's dad doesn't return from the sea one night so Noi goes out to find him。 He is struggling and his storm whale comes, with his family, to help Noi。 The boy is reunited with his dad。 A lovely story of friendship and hope。 If children have experiences of losing a parent or someone close to them the book may be too upsetting for them as at one point it appears the dad may have died/be lost at sea。 Depending on the child, a 1:1 discussion beforehand, explaining that the dad is found safe may be enough to allow them to read and enjoy the story。 The illustrations are fantastic and complement the text very well。 I believe the book allows itself to be used to plan a unit of work around for year 1/2。 I think year 3 children would also enjoy the story。 。。。more

One good turn deserves another。。。this is a wonderful sequel to 'The Storm Whale'。 This time it is winter and, worried about his Dad yet to return from his fishing trip, it is Noi who receives some help。 It is a really warming story of compassion, perfectly complimented by Davies' accessible and endearing art work。 One good turn deserves another。。。this is a wonderful sequel to 'The Storm Whale'。 This time it is winter and, worried about his Dad yet to return from his fishing trip, it is Noi who receives some help。 It is a really warming story of compassion, perfectly complimented by Davies' accessible and endearing art work。 。。。more

Now's dad goes for one last fishing trip before winter, but he doesn't arrive home when expected so Noi goes to find him。 A beautiful tale of resilience, community, and friendship。 I love that this book is so foreign to my Australian culture but so familiarly human。 Now's dad goes for one last fishing trip before winter, but he doesn't arrive home when expected so Noi goes to find him。 A beautiful tale of resilience, community, and friendship。 I love that this book is so foreign to my Australian culture but so familiarly human。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A perfect follow-up book from 'The Storm Whale'。 This book touches on many important themes such as friendship, courage/bravery and teamwork。 These could all be discussed in a PSHCE lesson (or several) using the book as a reference to where these have occurred。 As i was reading this book, i felt myself becoming emotionally attached to the main character, Noi, and felt worried for him when he got lost on the frozen sea and couldn't find his dad。 - This could also be discussed with children, askin A perfect follow-up book from 'The Storm Whale'。 This book touches on many important themes such as friendship, courage/bravery and teamwork。 These could all be discussed in a PSHCE lesson (or several) using the book as a reference to where these have occurred。 As i was reading this book, i felt myself becoming emotionally attached to the main character, Noi, and felt worried for him when he got lost on the frozen sea and couldn't find his dad。 - This could also be discussed with children, asking questions such as 'how did this make you feel? How would you feel if you were in Noi's shoes? Where do you think Noi's dad may be?'Davies' illustrations throughout this book help to tell the story and i like the use dark tones and different shades of blue 。 This is because I would associate these with winter and night time。 I particularly like the way in which the sea has been painted in the page where the storm whales are pushing the boat towards the lighthouse。 The text in this book is big and clear and therefore this would be great to use as a whole class sharing text as each child would be able to follow the story through the pictures and the text。 For younger children, the pictures would be really effective as they tell the story well and without the text, the reader is able to get a general idea of what is happening。 I would definitely recommend reading this book。 。。。more

Noi, his tender fisherman father, six cats and the baby whale he once saved, all return in this moving sequel to The Storm Whale。 The difference? The whale, along with his family, rescue Noi this time around。 However, themes of loneliness, friendship and loving father/son relationships remain。 Fans of The Storm Whale will not be disappointed。

Nicholas

The students liked it, part of whale week。

Really love the pictures。 Really sweet book with great love for family and the importance of it。 Nice relationship between the whale and the boy。

This is my (nearly) 2-year-old son's favorite book currently and, as his dad, i love that it is a story of a father-son relationship。 Such a sweet little narrative and great illustrations, too。 This is my (nearly) 2-year-old son's favorite book currently and, as his dad, i love that it is a story of a father-son relationship。 Such a sweet little narrative and great illustrations, too。 。。。more
