Okay, now this was exciting。Very gradually the character of Shiro is getting fleshed out and I loved how the author paced it。 It makes the reader want to find out who Shiro is, who the Red Man is, and what purpose did the old man (who got beheaded) served in the laboratory, among all things。A lot of people were saying, "Ganta is a dick, he still doesn't understand Shiro" and that's how great the narration is。 Every reader knows what's happening instead of the main character。 That plot developmen Okay, now this was exciting。Very gradually the character of Shiro is getting fleshed out and I loved how the author paced it。 It makes the reader want to find out who Shiro is, who the Red Man is, and what purpose did the old man (who got beheaded) served in the laboratory, among all things。A lot of people were saying, "Ganta is a dick, he still doesn't understand Shiro" and that's how great the narration is。 Every reader knows what's happening instead of the main character。 That plot development is just one of my best favorites。 。。。more

So much great fast paced action the story is really moving along nicely and I have no idea where it’ll go next。

Volume 4 was more action than anything else as Ganta, the young man framed and forced to fight for the entertainment of others as a Deadman thanks to having some sort of superpower over his own blood, joins a rebel group inside the prison/amusement park, hoping to get a data chip to a visiting government inspector。 Too bad the rebels have a traitor, and the Undertakers, mysterious and often psychotic individuals whose weapons negate the Deadmen's blood powers。And then there's Shiro, the mysterio Volume 4 was more action than anything else as Ganta, the young man framed and forced to fight for the entertainment of others as a Deadman thanks to having some sort of superpower over his own blood, joins a rebel group inside the prison/amusement park, hoping to get a data chip to a visiting government inspector。 Too bad the rebels have a traitor, and the Undertakers, mysterious and often psychotic individuals whose weapons negate the Deadmen's blood powers。And then there's Shiro, the mysterious girl who keeps following Ganta around。 She appears to be rather childlike with little understanding of where she is or what she's doing, and yet she seems to know so much more than she should。Some mythology came out, the fights were good, and things ended in a bad place for the protagonist。 I'd say that means I should get the next one at some point。 。。。more

Ganta is recruited by a group of rebels and is saved by ShiroI still have no real idea what is going on half the time。 I like the idea of Deadmen who can control their blood for fighting, but there's not much explanation in these volumes。 If the next book doesn't clear things up a bit, I'll probably make that the last one in the series I read。 Ganta is recruited by a group of rebels and is saved by ShiroI still have no real idea what is going on half the time。 I like the idea of Deadmen who can control their blood for fighting, but there's not much explanation in these volumes。 If the next book doesn't clear things up a bit, I'll probably make that the last one in the series I read。 。。。more

Ganta is such an idiot。 Like, I get the whole thing about protagonists being new to things and a bit slow so that the readers are introduced to things and can understand things at the same pace and it makes it a tad more natural, but he's also so unlikeable and dumb that it's actually painful, and a pretty shitty friend on top of that。 He doesn't even think about why the data chip exploded or even how Shiro could have possibly orchestrated that, and on top of that he doesn't listen to her explan Ganta is such an idiot。 Like, I get the whole thing about protagonists being new to things and a bit slow so that the readers are introduced to things and can understand things at the same pace and it makes it a tad more natural, but he's also so unlikeable and dumb that it's actually painful, and a pretty shitty friend on top of that。 He doesn't even think about why the data chip exploded or even how Shiro could have possibly orchestrated that, and on top of that he doesn't listen to her explanation or even try and figure it out。 Just throwing a data chip away wouldn't make it explode - like, how stupid are these people? Nobody else questions it either。I am interested about Mockingbird though - he (?) seems like he (?) could be interesting, at least。 Though I don't know how they think spreading the data will help them all that much - obviously the authorities don't really give a shit either way because it would take more than one measly inspection every year for them to ever authorise anything like that without an ulterior motive, that motive being the Deadmen and the Wretched Egg。 Still, it will be interesting enough to see how this all plays out in the end。 。。。more

Paper book review。Not a super memorable book in the series, but a decent addition to the plot。 Weird, considering there's this huge Undertaker battle, but other than the rock god guy and the creepy little girl, I have a hard time remembering specifics of what I just read。 Felt like a filler book leading up to a larger plot line coming in later books。 Paper book review。Not a super memorable book in the series, but a decent addition to the plot。 Weird, considering there's this huge Undertaker battle, but other than the rock god guy and the creepy little girl, I have a hard time remembering specifics of what I just read。 Felt like a filler book leading up to a larger plot line coming in later books。 。。。more

Back on this again。 Deadman Wonderland remains a decent break from more taxing literature, given that you’ll always be assured of some grimly violent fighting and some embarrassed-teen interchanges in ready supply。 This volume provides a little more backstory, as well as offering a pretty action-packed mission。 That the mission ends… badly… is probably to be expected given how early in the run we are。 But still, there’s a good sense of high stakes。 Betrayal and subterfuge make an appearance, and Back on this again。 Deadman Wonderland remains a decent break from more taxing literature, given that you’ll always be assured of some grimly violent fighting and some embarrassed-teen interchanges in ready supply。 This volume provides a little more backstory, as well as offering a pretty action-packed mission。 That the mission ends… badly… is probably to be expected given how early in the run we are。 But still, there’s a good sense of high stakes。 Betrayal and subterfuge make an appearance, and of course this causes a wedge between some of our characters。 Pretty standard, no? What intrigued me was that this volume also saw members of the prison staff become suspicious of what’s going on in the establishment。 While not a lot actually happened in this regard, there’s a good amount of groundwork laid for future management/staff throw downs。 Additionally, more was conveyed of the Undertakers and their role in controlling the inmates。 Turns out it’s not just about wicked guitar solos, which is a bit of a bummer。 Compared to the animated adaptation of the work, the manga is certainly more explicit。 The violence is pretty keenly observed, and it verges on the squicky given that everyone involved seems to be a teenager。 I dunno, maybe if you’re into kids being dissolved by acid, this isn’t such a thing for you。 That said, it’s fitting for the story – this is something that takes place in a human testing facility designed to look like a prison which also runs popular games that kill off most of their contestants – so I can’t carp too much。 A slightly lower score for this collection as it didn’t really provide me with much of a sense of forward momentum。 I guess I should get used to it – with so many volumes to go, I reckon it’ll be a while before stuff starts to whip along。 。。。more
JJ,
This series continues to be excellent。 This volume is darker than the ones that preceded it。 The stakes for the prisoners are getting higher。 The story continues to be intriguing, the characters are evolving, and the artwork is absolutely gorgeous。

The story remains interesting, the characters fun, and the art compelling。 Usually around this volume, I begin to lose interest。 However, I’ll continue, with interest, to the next volume。

I'd probably give this 3。5 stars。 It's consistently entertaining。 As with previous volumes, there is some unnatural formatting and weird translation of certain parts; also, some panels are quite vague, but generally speaking, the illustration is great and the dialogue is tight。 I'm interested, and looking forward to reading the next volume。 I'd probably give this 3。5 stars。 It's consistently entertaining。 As with previous volumes, there is some unnatural formatting and weird translation of certain parts; also, some panels are quite vague, but generally speaking, the illustration is great and the dialogue is tight。 I'm interested, and looking forward to reading the next volume。 。。。more
