Summary

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Huntress and The Alice Network returns with another heart-stopping World War II story of three female code breakers at Bletchley Park and the spy they must root out after the war is over。

1940。 As England prepares to fight the Nazis, three very different women answer the call to mysterious country estate Bletchley Park, where the best minds in Britain train to break German military codes。 Vivacious debutante Osla is the girl who has everything—beauty, wealth, and the dashing Prince Philip of Greece sending her roses—but she burns to prove herself as more than a society girl, and puts her fluent German to use as a translator of decoded enemy secrets。 Imperious self-made Mab, product of east-end London poverty, works the legendary codebreaking machines as she conceals old wounds and looks for a socially advantageous husband。 Both Osla and Mab are quick to see the potential in local village spinster Beth, whose shyness conceals a brilliant facility with puzzles, and soon Beth spreads her wings as one of the Park’s few female cryptanalysts。 But war, loss, and the impossible pressure of secrecy will tear the three apart。

1947。 As the royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip whips post-war Britain into a fever, three friends-turned-enemies are reunited by a mysterious encrypted letter--the key to which lies buried in the long-ago betrayal that destroyed their friendship and left one of them confined to an asylum。 A mysterious traitor has emerged from the shadows of their Bletchley Park past, and now Osla, Mab, and Beth must resurrect their old alliance and crack one last code together。 But each petal they remove from the rose code brings danger--and their true enemy--closer。。。

3 women, World War 2 and a bubbling amount of secrets。 That is what I found with this book。We meet three characters, Oslo (Canadian born debutante who happens to be dating Prince Phillip) Mab (woman who wants to find a good man to take her and her sister Lucy away from her strict rude mother) and Beth (who’s basically a spinster who wants to be alone because she wants to be free of her mother)。 The three ladies work at Bletchley Park which was used during the war to decode Nazi Germany codes。 Th 3 women, World War 2 and a bubbling amount of secrets。 That is what I found with this book。We meet three characters, Oslo (Canadian born debutante who happens to be dating Prince Phillip) Mab (woman who wants to find a good man to take her and her sister Lucy away from her strict rude mother) and Beth (who’s basically a spinster who wants to be alone because she wants to be free of her mother)。 The three ladies work at Bletchley Park which was used during the war to decode Nazi Germany codes。 Their lives will forever be changed after the war, leading one of them to be in a sanitarium。This book made me laugh, made me cry and made me more interested to learn more about this whole world in WW2 I had no idea existed。 The audio narrator made each character more lively and allowed me as the reader to imagine myself there in the horrors of World War 2。Kate Quinn made a part of history come to life and made these characters seem likeable and loving through the narrator she chose。 The secondary characters of Mr Grey, Harry, Boots and everyone also made the story that much more interesting and a great addition。Thank you to Netgallery and Harper Audio for the ARC。 。。。more

3-3。5 stars。 I thought the narrator did a wonderful job, but I found the story a little too slow and drawn out。 The ending though was worth the wait - I just wish the book were shorter and sharper with the storyline。

I loved this book! I forgot that I had put it on hold months ago and wasn't too excited when I received it because I'm a little fatigued with WWII books。 However, this story is more of a behind-the-scenes story and it was fascinating。 I have learned to read the author's notes (which are always at the back of the book) BEFORE starting a historical fiction book because I like knowing which parts of the story are really based on fact。 I also enjoyed how the royal family played a part in the story ( I loved this book! Kate Quinn has become one of my favorite authors。 Her writing improves with each new book, and her words pierce your heart。

Excellent book about the women and men who worked on breaking the coded messages from the Germans during WWII。 This book follows the lives of three women who became friends and worked together at this institute

I read The Alice Network and wasn't sure I would read The Huntress - how could Kate Quinn write another book so gripping, with such amazing relatable heroines? But I did and I was sure I would never again meet a heroine I would love as much as Ninotchka, nor a plot so convoluted and mesmerizing。It was with some trepidation that I began The Rose Code, on Saturday, April 25th, the day of Prince Philip's funeral。。。and as I met Osla, one of the three heroines and realized that she had been a serious I read The Alice Network and wasn't sure I would read The Huntress - how could Kate Quinn write another book so gripping, with such amazing relatable heroines? And then I met Mab and then Beth and I became caught up in the story of the code breakers at Bletchley Park, all ruled by the urgency of WWII and by the State Secrets Act。 These heroines were so REAL - at times I loved each of them and at other times I was infuriated by each in turn - a set of three friends who in many ways were more like sisters。Kate Quinn has climbed even higher with The Rose Code! 。。。more

I hate to do this to Quinn, but she left me no choice。 I couldn’t finish the book, I could push myself to get through less than half of the book and then just skipped to the last chapter and got it done with。 Gosh, the torture。I had loved her ‘The Huntress’ and ‘The Alice Network’。 So I really had high expectations from this book, but sigh!Such a good plot, but how could she get all her characters so wrong。 I tried really hard, thinking the tone would get better but no luck。 It’s not just some p I hate to do this to Quinn, but she left me no choice。 I couldn’t finish the book, I could push myself to get through less than half of the book and then just skipped to the last chapter and got it done with。 Gosh, the torture。I had loved her ‘The Huntress’ and ‘The Alice Network’。 So I really had high expectations from this book, but sigh!Such a good plot, but how could she get all her characters so wrong。 I tried really hard, thinking the tone would get better but no luck。 It’s not just some pockets of the book or just couple of characters that didn’t click - all the three main characters were missing something and the story was just flat to a point where it got too irritating to bear。 In short, this book was missing it’s soul。 。。。more

The Rose Code by Kate Quinn🌹This historical fiction novel is laced with a thriller。 Three very different women are recruited to Bletchley Park to help crack coded German information in WWII。 They become firm friends until it becomes apparent that there is a traitor at Bletchley leaving the three uncertain of who they can trust and one committed to an asylum。 There’s a race to the finish to break a complex code nicknamed Rose to reveal the name of the traitor。 I found all the elements that I love The Rose Code by Kate Quinn🌹This historical fiction novel is laced with a thriller。 Three very different women are recruited to Bletchley Park to help crack coded German information in WWII。 They become firm friends until it becomes apparent that there is a traitor at Bletchley leaving the three uncertain of who they can trust and one committed to an asylum。 There’s a race to the finish to break a complex code nicknamed Rose to reveal the name of the traitor。 I found all the elements that I loved from The Alice Network here in The Rose Code; a central mystery, escalating tension, multiple narrative viewpoints and great characterisations。 I particularly enjoyed learning more about the machines at Bletchley, including enigma, and how code-breaking was done with endless hours of patience and concentration。 Turing is there as well as Dilly Knox and Churchill comes to visit。 The only part that jarred slightly was that Prince Philip featured reasonably prominently as a character, but I think this was an issue of sad timing rather than it being an issue of the book or its writing 。。。more

I loved this book from the beginning! I enjoyed both of Kate Quinn’s previous novels but I think this is my favorite。 It is a compelling story about three British women from different walks of life who assisted with code breaking during WWII。 So interesting to learn about women’s roles and experiences in that time period and how their positions in society factored into their hopes and dreams for their futures。 I love how Kate Quinn weaves real people from history into her novels along with the f I loved this book from the beginning! I don't want to say too much about this book; it's a book about three female codebreakers during WWII at Bletchley Park and they couldn't say much either! Kate Quinn creates strong characters that help the reader experience what life was like working on breaking messages to help the Allies defeat Hitler's war machine。 The story is gripping as friendship, romance, marriage and love intertwine among the ladies and their lives。 Do your self a favor and don't keep this novel a "secret" much longer! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I fell in love with all the characters。 I was crying when Mab was talking to the reporter。 I kind of wish we could have seen that article but, it probably would have been too much too handle。

A 3。5 Star for me。 5 being amazing。 4 loved。 3 liked it。 Too long and drawn out ( me being a Goldfinch fan) I wasn’t really that invested in the characters。 I do love how the non fiction is laced together with the fiction。 Was reading at the time of Prince Philips death, ironically so that was all interesting and timely for me。

Amazing! To be able to capture the lives of the people behind the scenes, so much truth and a bit of fiction but the truth, wow。 The lives these people had to live not only the secrets they had to keep from family but each other。 The strain of day to day life knowing that your family could be in danger but you needed to keep going, getting sucked into a project only to find out it's been a week or more that has passed by and you have missed so much。 I loved every second, the research that went i Amazing! 4。5 stars。 I could not stop listening to this audiobook and was captivated by the story of these three brilliant women who worked at Bletchley Park during the war。 I was a bit shocked when I started reading this to discover that Prince Phillip is a fairly major character in this book, and I was reading it days after he was buried。 Kate Quinn is the master of historical fiction。

Most World War II novels are about the gallant soldiers risking their lives in service to their country or about the forlorn girlfriend or wife left behind。 But this novel explores the lives of the women who were code breakers at Bletchley Park。 We get to follow them as they provide the intelligence needed to gain an upper hand against the Nazis。 I love that our heroes are women with strengths and foibles and heartbreaks and romances。
