Summary

Once upon a time, there was a boy with a wicked tongue。。。

Before Cardan was a cruel prince or a wicked king, he was a faerie child with a heart of stone。 In this sumptuously illustrated tale, Holly Black reveals a deeper look into the dramatic life of Elfhame's enigmatic high king。 This tale includes delicious details of life before The Cruel Prince, an adventure beyond The Queen of Nothing, and familiar but pivotal moments from The Folk of the Air trilogy, told wholly from Cardan's perspective。

This new instalment in the Folk of the Air series is a return to the heart-racing romance, danger, humour and drama that enchanted readers everywhere。 Each chapter is paired with lavish and luminous full-colour art, making this the perfect collector's item to be enjoyed by audiences both new and old。

An irresistible return to the captivating world of Elfhame from bestselling Folk of the Air author Holly Black, with stunning full-colour illustrations by Rovina Cai。

I loved this series。 This book was just ok to me。 The illustrations were beautiful, but there wasn’t a lot of substance to it。 Overall, I’m glad I read this, but it didn’t add to or take away from the series for me。

Interesting and quick。

O carte superba。 Te ajuta sa-l intelegi pe Cardan mult mai bine。

Not an essential read but if you enjoyed The Folk of the Air series, and in particular Cardan, then you’ll want to pick this up。 I’d describe this as a companion novel to the main series, as some parts run parallel to the events in the trilogy and some take place before or after。 A charming little fairytale style read that ends too quickly。

How the stories came together & the illustrations: wonderfully marvelous。 The whole book is a magical experience。Would've liked to see a smidgen more Jude & Cardan。4,5/5 stars How the stories came together & the illustrations: wonderfully marvelous。 The whole book is a magical experience。Would've liked to see a smidgen more Jude & Cardan。4,5/5 stars 。。。more

I am so happy that I finally got my hands on a copy of this book (Via my library) and it is simply beautiful。 The artwork is amazing and Cardan looks scrumptious。 There is not much in this book in terms of storyline but it shed some more light on why Cardan is the way he is。 We get to see his actual relationship with Aslog and the lesson he learnt along the way。"Hate was the first thing that truly warmed him"Cardan was lacking so much warmth that he was comforted by even hate。 The indifference f I am so happy that I finally got my hands on a copy of this book (Via my library) and it is simply beautiful。 The artwork is amazing and Cardan looks scrumptious。 There is not much in this book in terms of storyline but it shed some more light on why Cardan is the way he is。 We get to see his actual relationship with Aslog and the lesson he learnt along the way。"Hate was the first thing that truly warmed him"Cardan was lacking so much warmth that he was comforted by even hate。 The indifference from his family was substantially the root of a lot of his problems。 However, who he chose to become was all on him。 。。。more

It was nice to get a POV from Cardan, though I didn't love the stilted prose format。 It was nice to get a POV from Cardan, though I didn't love the stilted prose format。 。。。more

Good novella that gives insight into Cardan。 Makes you wish for another full story book though because the characters in this series can be addicting。 Fun story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was a wonderful end to the series! It was very interesting to learn about Cardan’s past。 I loved the end of this book。 It left me wishing Cardin and Jude’s story would continue。 This has to be my favorite book!

He terminado enamoradísima de la pareja tan ideal que hacen Jude y Cardan。 El punto de vista de Cardan me ha parecido espectacular,。 Si antes lo amaba, ahora lo hago aún más。

1st Read: ★★★I listened to the audiobook for this, and to be honest, I got distracted quite a bit as that tends to happen when I listen to my books。 I like the insight we have into Cardan's character though。 1st Read: ★★★I listened to the audiobook for this, and to be honest, I got distracted quite a bit as that tends to happen when I listen to my books。 I like the insight we have into Cardan's character though。 。。。more

Really enjoyed this small installment to the series! Loved that it didn’t bring up any new conflict but let us see some more of the characters lives!

a whole book from cardan’s point of view is something that can actually be so personal

THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING。 i am a fan of both Cardan and the genius creator, Holly Black, as you can probably tell。

For this one, I highly recommend the print/ebook version instead of the audiobook。 It is no fault of the narrator as the reader should experience this novel in its entirety and that includes the wonderful illustrations。 That being said, you could potentially do what I did and have the two of them experienced together。 I have the ebook and audiobook, so when the new chapter began in the audiobook, I would take a look at the accompanying artwork。This novella takes place after the entire trilogy is For this one, I highly recommend the print/ebook version instead of the audiobook。 It is no fault of the narrator as the reader should experience this novel in its entirety and that includes the wonderful illustrations。 That being said, you could potentially do what I did and have the two of them experienced together。 I have the ebook and audiobook, so when the new chapter began in the audiobook, I would take a look at the accompanying artwork。This novella takes place after the entire trilogy is complete and definitely includes spoilers about the ending from The Queen of Nothing。 This novella is a about different version of the same story within a central story。 Each chapter reads like a short story as the reader goes through different parts of Carden’s life from the time he was little to the time after the epilogue in the final novel。 It does give a slightly new look at Carden, but does not go more in-depth and instead is more like an entertaining side story that happens to include some of the original events。 While I would not go as far as say it was unnecessary, it is not needed for the central story of the trilogy。The story is entirely from Carden’s perspective, so it was nice to see what was going through his mind during the sections that mirrored the events in the trilogy that were told from Jude’s point of view。 The story of the boy and the monster was very interesting and I loved how the tale evolved every time it was told to Carden。 There is some exploration of stories versus truth and I greatly enjoyed how it was integrated together。 Although I wish there were more to this story, it was entertaining and it was a fun return to fairyland。 [Actual Rating 4。25] 。。。more

Gorgeously illystrated by the talented Rovina Cai, this companion to the series was a delight。 I loved the fairy tale vibes of these short stories that gave a bit of background on Cardan's story and also go a bit beyond the end of book 3。 A lovely reading experience。 Gorgeously illystrated by the talented Rovina Cai, this companion to the series was a delight。 I loved the fairy tale vibes of these short stories that gave a bit of background on Cardan's story and also go a bit beyond the end of book 3。 A lovely reading experience。 。。。more
