Summary

Definitely love this better than the first book。 I still have a love and hate relationship with Alina but looooooooove Nikolai and he's worth that extra O's OMG。 His wit got me swooning。 Please don't make him a bad guy! first of all, ✨nikolai✨second of all, i really liked this。 what often happens with sequels when it’s a trilogy is that they’re just there as fillers, but that didn’t happen with this one。 i actually liked the storyline better than the first one

Although I really liked this book and just kept on reading, just like the first。 I found this one a little more boring。 I mean in the beginning there is action and I really liked it because of the sea element。 But later on in the story she just falls into this routine and it seems like all she does is drift through the days and whines。 I do like this book because of the relationship development。 I really get the feeling that you get to know more about them。 To be honest at some moments in the la Although I really liked this book and just kept on reading, just like the first。 I found this one a little more boring。 I mean in the beginning there is action and I really liked it because of the sea element。 But later on in the story she just falls into this routine and it seems like all she does is drift through the days and whines。 I do like this book because of the relationship development。 I really get the feeling that you get to know more about them。 To be honest at some moments in the last 100 pages or so I had to blink away some tears that had come up, so be weary! 。。。more

Wooh okay second book, done! I liked Alina more than in the first book。 Her inner dialogue being more about her struggles with coming into her power and confronting her own shadows/darker side (okay it wasn't that deep) was kinda interesting and made me less annoyed with being inside her head。 That said, Mal is someone I feel keeps her back a lot from growing into who she is。 I need more of Alina and Genya just hanging out instead ;o Nikolai was a new character I was pleasantly surprised with。 I Wooh okay second book, done! The story was somehow slow, I felt that there was a lot of details that weren't necessarily important to the story。 The only chapters I liked were the last chapters and some from the beginning。 The story was somehow slow, I felt that there was a lot of details that weren't necessarily important to the story。 The only chapters I liked were the last chapters and some from the beginning。 。。。more

Solid sequel with quite the cliffhanger ending。 Hoping the final in the trilogy wraps up this story well。

2。5 stars。 if you take the first 100 pages and the last 40, throw away the rest, then it’s a good book。 like what even happened in the middle? idk? only good thing is nikolai。

Personally I really enjoyed this second installment to the shadow and bone triology。 However I found the beginning was a little slow paced for my taste, but once the plot was into place it was fantastic。 I loved meeting new characters and enjoyed being back in the grisha universe once more。

I can see why some people don’t because let’s be honest not a lot happens throughout the middle of the book but the beginning and the end usually make it worth it for people。 I think I’m realising I don’t mind a bit of a slow book because when I get invested in the characters I could read about them doing pretty much anything and still be entertained。 For me the characters and their story were easy to become invested with so that really helped。 I love the characters in this! Alina is such a strong and intelligent character and I’m loving watching her powers change and grow on her。 I think I have different opinions to most when it comes to the Darkling and Mal though because I hate the Darkling and kinda adore Mal。 Yeah he’s annoying sometimes but I think I just like that they’ve loved each other for so long and he does so many things to try and protect her。 I don’t know maybe I’m just strange 🙈😂 Book 28 of 2021Reread? ✅Reccomend? ✅ 。。。more

While a step up from the first of the series (Shadow & Bone) I still unfortunately found this novel very formulaic。 There were minimal surprises, and it felt very much like I was re-reading parts of the first book。 I have fallen in love with many of Leigh Bardugo's later books and was a little disappointed when I came to this series pre the show coming out。 While a step up from the first of the series (Shadow & Bone) I still unfortunately found this novel very formulaic。 There were minimal surprises, and it felt very much like I was re-reading parts of the first book。 I have fallen in love with many of Leigh Bardugo's later books and was a little disappointed when I came to this series pre the show coming out。 。。。more

If I wasn't listening to this as an audio book I doubt I would get to the end。First glaring thing is that there was just about no plot, no action aside from the last tenth of the book。 Up until then it was outright boring。 Compared to the Six of Crows duology I almost can't believe it was written by the same author。 It feels almost a bigger let down because I liked those books so much。 Even the first one of this trilogy was alright, but this was painful。The fact that I can't stand Mal and Alina If I wasn't listening to this as an audio book I doubt I would get to the end。First glaring thing is that there was just about no plot, no action aside from the last tenth of the book。 Up until then it was outright boring。 Compared to the Six of Crows duology I almost can't believe it was written by the same author。 It feels almost a bigger let down because I liked those books so much。 Even the first one of this trilogy was alright, but this was painful。The fact that I can't stand Mal and Alina and one of them narrates the whole thing just makes it worse。 I don't even want to talk about Mal, he's in no way likable and the only more annoying thing than Alina herself is that somehow every somewhat important male character in this trilogy wants her。 Why? She should be nothing more than a nuisance to anyone with her attitude and behavior。 We could say that 'oh, she is just changing because of the amplifiers', but the sad truth is that she has always been whiny, entitled and annoying。The only saving grace for this book is Nikolai。 His character is great I just wish there was a semi-acceptable love interest written for him。 Oh well, poor guy。 。。。more

Actual rating closer to 3。5 starsI enjoyed this book and flew through it quickly once I actually sat down to focus on it, but I found that Shadow and Bone was paced better。 This sequel felt a little off in terms of pacing, though I did love the introduction of new characters and the development we got for characters we were already introduced to。 This book solidified my dislike for Mal though。 I think they did a good job at making him more like-able in the show, but book Mal is just not my cup o Actual rating closer to 3。5 starsI enjoyed this book and flew through it quickly once I actually sat down to focus on it, but I found that Shadow and Bone was paced better。 This sequel felt a little off in terms of pacing, though I did love the introduction of new characters and the development we got for characters we were already introduced to。 This book solidified my dislike for Mal though。 I think they did a good job at making him more like-able in the show, but book Mal is just not my cup of tea。Hoping the Netfilx series gets renewed as there are many things in this book that I think would translate beautifully to screen! 。。。more

There’s plenty that could be said about the pacing and plot development here (Oh, we’re hunting another mystical beast? Oh, we caught that in a week? But wait, there’s yet another to find? Cool, cool。), but ultimately this installment introduced enough charming new characters to be mostly satisfying。 The returning characters all tended to be a shade less compelling in comparison, but these books are on an upward trajectory。

3。5 stars This book was definitely a step down from Shadow and Bone but still not fully terrible。 For the most part, it was really well written and had a very intriguing storyline。 There were a lot of characters in this book and it got a bit confusing towards the end。 PROS: Even though there were many characters, there were a few that I really loved。 Nikolai was my favorite character by far。 His sense of humor and just basically everything about him is amazing。 David and the Darkling were 3。5 stars This book was definitely a step down from Shadow and Bone but still not fully terrible。 For the most part, it was really well written and had a very intriguing storyline。 There were a lot of characters in this book and it got a bit confusing towards the end。 PROS: Even though there were many characters, there were a few that I really loved。 Nikolai was my favorite character by far。 His sense of humor and just basically everything about him is amazing。 David and the Darkling were also awesome characters in the book。 The beginning chapters were amazing and there was so much happening all at once。 This was REALLY well written and kept me engaged until it got towards the middle。 The last few chapters were also perfectly written and the action was just bewildering。 Just like the beginning, there was so much happening at once。 CONS: Just has there are many characters that I love, there are many of them that I disliked VERY much。 For starters Mal。 He was just a whinny, good looking guy that did absolutely nothing besides holding Alina back。 The worst part of him was that there were some moments that I actually liked Mal and it was sorta a love/hate relationship with him。 Alina wasn't a very fun character either。 Her powers are amazing, but for the most part of the book, she was just tired and didn't really do much in the middle of the book。The middle was dragged out and honestly served no purpose。 It just continued with pointless events that didn't evolve the plot。 All the characters weren't that bad until it got to the middle。 In conclusion, Shadow and Bone is better written than Siege and Storm。 The beginning and end were written really well, but the middle was dragged out a lot。 Nikolai was a really fun and interesting character, while Mal and Alina weren't as much。 I don't have very high expectations for Ruin and Rising, but I am hoping that it is better than Siege and Storm。 。。。more
