I’m thinking I am a masochist to read a travel book on Paris during a global pandemic, but seeing Megan’s drawings and fashion perspective on the City of Lights was just too tempting! Four stars only because I wonder how many places will still be there when I can visit??

Con este libro Megan Hess nos lleva a un París de ensueño, con sus dibujos y sus explicaciones de los lugares más bonitos y lugosos de la ciudad。

“Paris isn’t for changing planes, it’s for changing your outlook!”, Audrey Hepburn sweetly proclaims to Humphrey Bogart in Sabrina ~ “For throwing open the windows and letting in, la vie en rose。。。” I have always felt enthralled by the whimsy and allure of Paris; the sun dappled light which rests on the River Seine, the assortment of Marie Antoinette-inspired treats which line the glass cabinets in Ladurée and Nina’s, the history of the French monarchy which you can uncover at Chateau Versailles “Paris isn’t for changing planes, it’s for changing your outlook!”, Audrey Hepburn sweetly proclaims to Humphrey Bogart in Sabrina ~ “For throwing open the windows and letting in, la vie en rose。。。” I have always felt enthralled by the whimsy and allure of Paris; the sun dappled light which rests on the River Seine, the assortment of Marie Antoinette-inspired treats which line the glass cabinets in Ladurée and Nina’s, the history of the French monarchy which you can uncover at Chateau Versailles, the wonder of the Eiffel Tower lit up in all its sparkling glory on a moonlit evening, the fantasy of the carousels dotted around the magical city, fresh buttery croissants which I can imagine melting in my mouth like candy floss, the infamous Avenue Montaigne and Rue Cambon where Chanel & Dior, the designers of dreams, reside and the Paris Opera House where ballerinas twirl in their tutus and dainty pointe shoes… Before I get too carried away… I thought I would share my thoughts on ‘Paris Through A Fashion Eye’ by the talented illustrator and writer, Megan Hess。 I have been following Megan for quite a few years and to say that I adore her designs would be an understatement。 They depict everything I covet; haute couture, pastels, decadent delights and all the pink beauty in the world! She has also inspired me to create my own illustrations and designs for my Etsy shop where I sell my own ballerina prints。 Whilst I was in London for my birthday, we visited the V&A to see the ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams’, exhibit。 Whilst in the gift shop I couldn’t resist picking up two Dior books but out of the corner of my eye I spotted one of Megan’s books! I couldn’t believe it as it has been on my wish list for such a long time and it felt like fate because I’m hoping to visit Paris for my 22nd birthday next April。 Ever since I have been home, my head has been buried in this book! So far I have written out lists of all the things I want to see and do, gathered pretty pictures on Pinterest which I have printed and placed in my scrapbook for inspiration。 Every page of Megan’s book is adorned with an array of illustrations that inspire me; from dreamy depictions of the most luxurious hotels like ‘le Bristol’ and ‘The Ritz’, to the decadent treasures you can indulge in at Angelina’s, to the glittering displays at Dior and Chanel, you will be spoilt for places to go to! I definitely recommend this read to any fashion lovers as you will be left brimming with ideas for your next trip to Paris ☁️🎀🍥🇫🇷✨🗼 。。。more

The book has gilt-edged pages and glossy pages and the illustrations are interesting but the short texts providing information about the various luxury boutiques, restaurants, hotels and sites read as though they were taken directly off of the brochures, travel guide or Internet links for each。 Unfortunately, the book mentions Collette which closed 20 December 2017 and Bouchra Jarrar, the artistic director at Lanvin, departed Lanvin in July 2017 after 16 months of tumbling sales。 Perhaps these o The book has gilt-edged pages and glossy pages and the illustrations are interesting but the short texts providing information about the various luxury boutiques, restaurants, hotels and sites read as though they were taken directly off of the brochures, travel guide or Internet links for each。 Unfortunately, the book mentions Collette which closed 20 December 2017 and Bouchra Jarrar, the artistic director at Lanvin, departed Lanvin in July 2017 after 16 months of tumbling sales。 Perhaps these occurred after the book reached the publisher。 She included brands one can find in any major city in the US and obvious sites such as the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Versailles but omitted sites I think she should have included: the Musee D'Orsay, Musee Picasso, Boucheron and Caviar Kaspia located in the Galeries Lafayette; all are fashionable places to visit, shop and eat。 。。。more
