To clarify the rating, ‘Days of Future Past’ is an excellent story。。。that only takes up two of the 7 issues contained in this collection。 The remaining issues range between essential background to filler。 The rating reflects this, albeit I would definitely rate the titular story you buy the collection for as a four/five star Marvel classic。

3。5 I really enjoyed the “Days of Future Past” storyline, but the first couple issues in this collection are unrelated and fairly mediocre。

These are seperate issues of a comic series, combined to form a graphic novel。 That's an annoying read though, since every issue feels the need to explain what happened in the previous issue。。。。 Which was only 3 pages earlier。So。。。 A lot of repetition。 Which is annoying。Also, this combines 7 issues of a comic, only 2 of those actually feature the titular story。 The rest is just a less great read! So that's annoying as well。However, I also read The Dark Phoenix saga, which precedes this graphic novel。 And I kinda feel like I saw a turn here: most comics up until this point were boring to read。 The Days of Future Past comic is NOT boring。 Repetative, yes。 But somehow, the DoFP issues, as well as the one (disconnected) issue following it are not boring at all。 Could it be they found their swing around this time?。。。。Anyway, as you can tell, despite the annoying features this book has, it WAS an engaging and fun read, particularly the second half。 The DoFP story itself is, as stated, only 2 issues out of the 7 combined here, but it feels much bigger, and is well written and conceived! The art for the entire book is great, though the coloring is awful。 A product of its time, I fear, with limited means of printing。 Using only bright, primary colors。I would love to see a version of this book that edits out all the repetativeness and offers a proper coloring。 But this would likely displease purists。 Oh well。 This does the trick。 。。。more

Nothing beats the long story arc of the Dark Phoenix saga, but the two-issue story Days of Future Past still packs an emotional punch。 They are collected now in this anthology, comprising of X-Men 138-143, with the title story being issues 141-142。 Exciting, thought-provoking storytelling from Chris Claremont and amazing artwork from the team of John Bryne and Terry Austin。 There's really nothing like it in the realm of comic books。 Nothing beats the long story arc of the Dark Phoenix saga, but the two-issue story Days of Future Past still packs an emotional punch。 They are collected now in this anthology, comprising of X-Men 138-143, with the title story being issues 141-142。 Exciting, thought-provoking storytelling from Chris Claremont and amazing artwork from the team of John Bryne and Terry Austin。 There's really nothing like it in the realm of comic books。 。。。more

Although the two issues containing the Days of Future Past-story were good they did not live up to the hype for me。 I guess the nostalgia is strong with this one。

The X-Men classics read through continues。 Days of Future Past is fantastic。 And holds up so well even though 2013, the future it takes place in, is now our past。Lots of hallmarks of the best X-Men stories are present here。 If you like Sentinels, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, time travel, or dystopian settings then this is a must read。It is a classic for a reason and such a strong story by Chris Claremont and John Byrne。

The "Days of Future Past" story arc from Uncanny X-Men is an entire TWO ISSUES。 For this reason, this book has some filler issues both before and after the titular event。 It appears that John Byrne and Chris Claremont could have spent more time fleshing out that particular arc, with Kate having to work harder to convince the past X-Men of her sincerity and the gravity of the situation。 Predictably, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants can't play well together, and predictably, they lose the battle。 I The "Days of Future Past" story arc from Uncanny X-Men is an entire TWO ISSUES。 For this reason, this book has some filler issues both before and after the titular event。 It appears that John Byrne and Chris Claremont could have spent more time fleshing out that particular arc, with Kate having to work harder to convince the past X-Men of her sincerity and the gravity of the situation。 Predictably, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants can't play well together, and predictably, they lose the battle。 I also did not understand what was supposed to happen with the future time stream - did it just cease to exist, or did they continue? Moira McTaggert and Charles Xavier briefly mention this in a throwaway conversation, which really could have used more exposition。 Overall, I was left wanting more, but in a bad way。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 this wasn't just about days of future past there were basically five parts so let's discuss1。 RECAP! Basically zoomed through the entire history of the X-Men。 Like, really zoomed。 I retained some but wow! At the end it just set up that Cyclops leaves and Kitty Pride enters, she's kind of the main character in this whole thing?2。 Nightcrawler's InfernoNightcrawler DIES on his birthday and gets his soul sent to hell。 Doctor Strange shows up and they rescue him! Kind of random, I can't remember how this wasn't just about days of future past there were basically five parts so let's discuss1。 RECAP! Kind of random, I can't remember how this really ties into the story, probably just connects to when Mystique tells him his mother knows things, so yeah? Also enjoyed the Doctor Strange cameo。3。 Wen-Di-Goooo!!Wolverine goes up to ole Canada and they face Wendigo, a cannibal cursed man。 Some out-of-date references to Indigenous people were made which is weird bc this was made in 1980, but hey, I wasn't alive then。 How does THIS connect to the story?! Well there's a random little bit about how Blob escapes prison with the help of Mystique and it's mentioned in the ACTUAL main story so。。。。4。 Actual Thing We Came For! Days of Future Past!!The movie this is based on is one of my most watched movies, so I watched to see the original source materialmutants indeed! in 2013 sucks! Kitty must go into the past and save mutantkind!Seeing the parallels b/w this and the movie was super fun! I was surprised Kitty was the main character but yeah, enjoyable!! But there were so many weird jokes about Blob so。。。5。 Christmas KittyI thought this would continue where Days of Future Past left off bc it was setting up Sebastian Shaw and sentinels, but no it didn't。 Basically Kitty gets left alone at Christmas and has to fight monster。 Only thing tying these together is she calls Cyclops? Yeah, interesting things were Kitty can basically fly and she's 13?! But she's calling Colossus SEXY which is WEIRD。overall I give a 3/5, I liked the main story and the recap was helpful but the rest was like why is this included? like I know why but was it necessary 。。。more

As a new X-men reader this volume was epic, because it not only contains the Future Past issues but also a few ones that give some depth to the story, also I read the Dark Phoenix arc a few weeks ago and it all feels interconnected, what a time it was to be a X-men fan back in 1979-1981!! 40 years ago!!The action and script doesn’t feel dated, in fact I feel that the script was more daring than the tamed thing we have now。All in all a fantastic read, a real timeless classic。

4。5 starsThe only plotline I feel doesn't fully work in this collection is the Alpha Flight stuff, but that's only because it comes right after the climatic death of Phoenix and right before my favorite 3 issue run in the history of Uncanny X-Men。 Claremont and Byrne really achieved something beautiful and everlasting during their creative run together, and Days of Future Past feels like an accumulation of that。 Great art, great story, and I just the character of Kitty Pryde。 Some minor issues w 4。5 starsThe only plotline I feel doesn't fully work in this collection is the Alpha Flight stuff, but that's only because it comes right after the climatic death of Phoenix and right before my favorite 3 issue run in the history of Uncanny X-Men。 Claremont and Byrne really achieved something beautiful and everlasting during their creative run together, and Days of Future Past feels like an accumulation of that。 Great art, great story, and I just the character of Kitty Pryde。 Some minor issues with her being only 13 and in love with Colossus, but overall I think she's well written and smartly adorable。 I don't really miss Cyclops I'm sad to say, but I can't get over how cool a villian Mystique is along with her New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants。 Sucks its hard to find a good collection of what comes next cause this is what good comics is all about in my opinion。 。。。more

The Days of Future Past story arc is amazingly well self-contained! Establishing Kitty Pride into the canon provides a window for even novices like me to engage with the story。 For that very reason, however, I had a difficult time following all the installments that came before the Days of Future Past arc, since they're a continuation of the X-Men franchise already more than 100 issues deep。 The Days of Future Past story arc is amazingly well self-contained! Fairly uneven and maybe that’s to be expected as the X-Men transition between leaders and Claremont fleshes out Kitty Pryde。 The one true Days of Future Past issue is a real treat but, as always, there’s more exposition than can fit in the pages。 The Marvel Way! Still it’s got some good fights, some better characterization, and you can see the seeds of all the 80’s X-tropes being sown。

This is a really good collection as it has not only the "Days of Future Past" story, but others smaller stories to round it out and give you more background as to where the team was and what their relationships were like with each other。I think this book is a great snapshot of that mid 70's early 80's Claremont era of X-Men。 The banter and interpersonal relationships are still great and at the forefront of every story, but the plots really serve to create some exciting situations and adventures。 This is a really good collection as it has not only the "Days of Future Past" story, but others smaller stories to round it out and give you more background as to where the team was and what their relationships were like with each other。I think this book is a great snapshot of that mid 70's early 80's Claremont era of X-Men。 The banter and interpersonal relationships are still great and at the forefront of every story, but the plots really serve to create some exciting situations and adventures。 And sure, the over explaining and mass exposition can be tedious at times, but overall, this is a great collection of stories。 Of course the star of the book are the two Days of Future Past issues which are really, really well done。 The story itself is a short but poignant piece of comic book history, and really introduces the notion of time travelling antics that the X-Men will be known for from here on out。 The way the future plot thread never really resolves and ends on a bit of down note leaves this melancholy feeling, even though in the present, everything went well。 Great stuff by Claremont。 One can certainly understand why this is a classic story line after reading it。 In two issues, Claremont and co made comic book history, and if you're a fan of classic comics and especially the X Men, this is a must。 。。。more

Days of Future Past is good! After reading Dark Phoenix, I thought that I just wouldn't enjoy X-Men Comics。 But this one was much more refreshing! Still, it ends up being a tense story。 I thought that I wouldn't like Wendigo, but it was exciting! There's some monster that's terrorizing Canada, and Wolverine and Nightcrawler go to help out Alpha Flight (a Canadian superhero team) with it。 Finally, a monster on Christmas was dramatic and a bit scary。 Kitty is left alone at the mansion, when some creepy monster shows up。 Since everyone's gone, Kitty's has to take it down on her own。Then, there's Days of Future Past。 In the future, the Sentinels have taken over and may cause Armageddon。 The only hope is to send Kitty's consciousness back in time to change a moment in history where the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, led by Mystique, kills Professor X, Moira McTaggert, and Senator Kelly, eventually leading to the creation of the Sentinels, etc。 This was my favorite story - it's not as good as the movie (I'm sorry if that's blasphemy), but it's still a fun and engaging story。 。。。more

This is one of the most famous X-Men stories and for my money, the first GREAT X-Men story。 I actually enjoyed this tiny tale more than the much-lauded Dark Phoenix Saga。 The writing is more polished, the concept is great, the stakes are fully formed and it’s told with impressive efficiency。 It’s the famous tale of desperate X-Men from a future ruled by the Sentinels sending the mind of an adult Kitty Pryde back in time into her younger body to convince the present X-Men to stop an assassination This is one of the most famous X-Men stories and for my money, the first GREAT X-Men story。 I actually enjoyed this tiny tale more than the much-lauded Dark Phoenix Saga。 The writing is more polished, the concept is great, the stakes are fully formed and it’s told with impressive efficiency。 It’s the famous tale of desperate X-Men from a future ruled by the Sentinels sending the mind of an adult Kitty Pryde back in time into her younger body to convince the present X-Men to stop an assassination attempt on an anti-mutant senator in order to prevent the future from happening。 Along with God Loves, Man Kills, it’s a real distillation of everything the X-Men is all about。 But beyond the two-issue story, this book has a few filler issues that are less than stellar (especially the annual issue with Doctor Strange), and it's also a big showcase for the introduction of Kitty into the X-Men。 。。。more

I thought the Days of Future Past story line was more than two issues, but apparently not。 I’m even more impressed that the writers were able to fit so much character development and content into two issues as well as span so much time。 This collection receives five stars alone for this story arch, as it is a really a fun read。 I almost wish they would’ve fleshed the story out though and made it even longer because they had so much to work with。 It’s still awesome to see a what if/utopian story I thought the Days of Future Past story line was more than two issues, but apparently not。 I’m even more impressed that the writers were able to fit so much character development and content into two issues as well as span so much time。 This collection receives five stars alone for this story arch, as it is a really a fun read。 I almost wish they would’ve fleshed the story out though and made it even longer because they had so much to work with。 It’s still awesome to see a what if/utopian story take place with our favorite characters。 The issues the precede and follow the DOFP arch are also really good in their own right。 I loved the Kitty story on Christmas Eve where she must fight against a super creepy demon all on her own for the first time。 I can’t stress how great the writers of this series are with character growth and motivations。 They really help us understand these characters better than I feel a lot of comics do (current and past)。 One of the many reasons I love the X-Men。 Also, I love that we get an appearance of Mystique, one of my faves! 。。。more
