I would have absolutely adored this book as a child! In fact, I adored this book as an adult! I thought that this book was awesome。 I think that, if Dr。 Einstein was alive, he would be proud to have himself as Max's hero。 She is amazing。 No wonder she was the chosen one。 Klaus is a bit bossy sometime, though, and he needs to learn who is leader。 Max, not him! It got into the action at the begging instead of the end and I like how they are so smart they can live on there own。 I think that was from their college life。

Max Einstein is a 12-year-old homeless orphan who struggles with finding friends。 It's not because of her home situation, but her brain。See, Max is a genius, and Albert Einstein has been her hero since her first memory。 It's why she chose that surname。She attends NYU and squats in abandoned buildings with some adults, all of whom have helped take care of her。 But being so young, she doesn't want to bring TOO much attention to herself, so she figures pulling all Cs in her classes will help preven Max Einstein is a 12-year-old homeless orphan who struggles with finding friends。 It's not because of her home situation, but her brain。See, Max is a genius, and Albert Einstein has been her hero since her first memory。 It's why she chose that surname。She attends NYU and squats in abandoned buildings with some adults, all of whom have helped take care of her。 But being so young, she doesn't want to bring TOO much attention to herself, so she figures pulling all Cs in her classes will help prevent that。An adult reading this can immediately tell that's a red flag for anyone in charge。 And indeed, two companies reach out to bring her into their folds: the Corps and the Change Makers Institute (CMI)。Both understand the need for a child's mind to help change the world。 The Corps though is all about the money, even working out of the Congo for cheap child labor and rich rewards。 While a man named Dr。 Zimm isn't the head, he does lead a constituent。 While this is most definitely a middle grade book, Patterson doesn't hide the truths of child labor and help all readers actually think about where our technology comes from。The CMI saves Max from a kidnapping (which brought her to an orphanage as a waystop), and the small group who takes her to safety is led by a man Max knows and already trusts。(My adult mind was a bit nervous that the CMI would actually be the bad guys, so I'm glad that isn't the case)。Max heads to Jerusalem where she is pitted against 8 other pre-teens, some of whom already have their Ph。Ds。It actually makes me think a bit of the Ender novels by Orson Scott Card, where you have smart kids and adults who know that the elasticity of a child's brain is essential。 But here they are still treated as children, albeit genius ones。 They are in charge, but have chaperones; their global and street understanding of situations is childlike。 And this is science fiction in that Max has an engineer's mind; others are focused on physics, biology, geology, and even psychology/logic。 It's a great complementary group, and the person who wins will lead adults into better changing the world。But Max (duh, we all saw that coming) understands that her new friends (friends!) are as capable as the adults。 Of course the adults have to stay on because of their experience, but the kids are needed because of their imaginations and brilliance。And this is actually one of the reasons why she was chosen: she sees all people as people。 Yes, she looks out for herself, but she doesn't want to run solo, she doesn't want to be seen as better。 She wants to truly help the world, whether or not she gets all the credit。The book is interspersed with illustrations by Max。 I love her drawings and handwriting。 The handwriting is SUCH that of a 12-year-old girl。Everything is supported by an unknown and unnamed benefactor, who Max meets at the end。But before that, she leads them all to helping the DRC with electricity and guiding them to be self-sufficient instead of having children working in the mines。 Even if the Corps wasn't settled there, of course they find out that's where the kids are heading due to a mole in the CMI。By 58% in, I really didn't like one of the kids, Klaus, and I had major suspicions about him。 (view spoiler)[ I'm SUPER GLAD I was wrong about him! He's just pompous and egotistical。 (hide spoiler)]There is a man who works for The Corps (or really, Dr。 Zimm) who is known as "the Devil" by the people in the village the kids (and their chaperones!) are in。 Through him, we also see how females, especially the youth, are treated by some rulers。 I really like the ways in which Max works to ensure everyone on the team is used appropriately, and she works through issues with an open mind。 She also is willing to work with people she doesn't like because she understands that hearts and minds can change。 。。。more

My name is Maxine, Max, and my hero is Albert Einstein。 Honestly, I don't know if Max Einstein is my real name, but it's the only one I've ever known。 This past twenty-four hours has been crazy。 First, two big guys grabbed me and took me to an orphanage, and then I was taken by some other people and flown to Jerusalem along with eight other geniuses。 The CMI, Change Makers Institute will choose one of us to lead a group of science experts in solving the world's problems。 I probably won't win, si My name is Maxine, Max, and my hero is Albert Einstein。 Honestly, I don't know if Max Einstein is my real name, but it's the only one I've ever known。 This past twenty-four hours has been crazy。 First, two big guys grabbed me and took me to an orphanage, and then I was taken by some other people and flown to Jerusalem along with eight other geniuses。 The CMI, Change Makers Institute will choose one of us to lead a group of science experts in solving the world's problems。 I probably won't win, since I think answering their questions about things I already know is a waste of time。 I only answered two of the fifty questions on the last test, since Einstein said imagination is more important than knowledge。 Regardless, as an orphan, I've never had friends before, and I'll miss the other eight kids。 I wonder where they'll send me after the leader is chosen。Max was a very endearing character。 She was a genius, but she didn't feel better than anyone else and could identify with the less fortunate。 Her idol was Albert Einstein, so she constantly analyzed situations logically。 In quiet moments, she even spoke to him in her head to get inspiration。 However, imagination was more important than knowledge。 The big conflict in the plot arose from a group called the Corp that wanted Max to help them make more money。 Some chapters shared their motives and plans for kidnapping Max, but Dr。 Zimm seemed to know her when she was an infant。 Dr。 Zimm and the Corp will be the ongoing antagonists for the rest of the series。 It looks like the CMI will undertake different humanitarian missions in each book, while the Corp tries to stop them。 Tackling world issues reminds me of the Explorer Academy series without the impossible inventions。 Overall, Max Einstein is a fun series, and I recommend you give it a shot。 。。。more

Great start to a series in which 12-year-old Max Einstein, homeless and orphaned, takes part in a competition with other kid brainiacs to lead a team to tackle some of the planet's most serious problems。 As if not challenging enough, Max must also protect her team from an evil, greedy group who would rather use their brain power to benefit itself。 Then there's the mystery of Max's past。 Lots of action and mystery。 Great start to a series in which 12-year-old Max Einstein, homeless and orphaned, takes part in a competition with other kid brainiacs to lead a team to tackle some of the planet's most serious problems。 As if not challenging enough, Max must also protect her team from an evil, greedy group who would rather use their brain power to benefit itself。 Then there's the mystery of Max's past。 Lots of action and mystery。 。。。more

What a great novel, especially for middle school girls who are interested in science! I LOVE that the main character is a girl who thrives on exploration, discovery, and problem-solving。 She is not typical in any way and it makes her more relatable because of this。 I need this whole series on my classroom bookshelves!
