"I want you to do something with the place。 Something epic。"

Emi has been entrusted with her brother's Los Angeles apartment for the summer as a graduation gift, but she isn't sure how to fulfil his one condition: that something great take place there while he's gone。 She may be a talented young production designer, already beginning to thrive in the competitive film industry, but she still feels like an average teen, floundering when it comes to romance。

But when Emi and her friend Charlotte discover a mysterious letter at the estate sale of a Hollywood film legend, Emi finds herself chasing down the loose ends of the movie icon's hidden life。 The search leads her to uncover a decades-old secret and the potential for something truly epic: love。

4。25 stars ⭐️ I am LOVING Nina Lacour’s writing style and the way she writes melancholy and loneliness。 I also adored the movie set LA setting of this on in particular。

I picked this book up because it was written by Nina LaCour, who I love, rather than because I was actually interested in the story。 On the surface, it's a little light for me。 Emi is an 18 year old getting involved in the movie industry as a set designer and she finds a letter by a recently deceased classic movie star that sets her on a mystery to uncover。 It's just a little bit of an over the top, cutesy concept, which I usually would avoid。LaCour has such a wonderful way of writing that it do I picked this book up because it was written by Nina LaCour, who I love, rather than because I was actually interested in the story。 On the surface, it's a little light for me。 Emi is an 18 year old getting involved in the movie industry as a set designer and she finds a letter by a recently deceased classic movie star that sets her on a mystery to uncover。 It's just a little bit of an over the top, cutesy concept, which I usually would avoid。LaCour has such a wonderful way of writing that it doesn't feel like too much, though。 Despite all the elements, these characters still feel like real people with real lives, and it was easy to get involved with them。 I really appreciate books that feel like they're capturing real people's problems and real solutions to those problems。 This is one of those books that reminds me of bit of Sara Zarr, how it feels so small scale because it's not melodramatic (again, despite the overall concept)。 It's just these girls and their lives and romance。I loved the way set design was brought into the story。 The way Emi talked about how each individual piece of the set matters because it's how the audience gets to know the characters was lovely。 It's how I see the little pieces and description in books。 Even the seemingly unimportant details matter so much。 It's one of the reason I love LaCour's writing。I think the main thing I struggled with was just that this is a light contemporary。 I like for my books to have high stakes。 Even if things turn out okay in the end, I want to be invested enough in the story that I'm right there worrying about it too。 But in a book like this, you know nothing *really* bad is going to happen and because of that, I feel a certain amount of distance。 Which isn't a critique on the book itself at all, just my relationship with it。 Otherwise, just a few small things kept me from truly adoring it。 Emi and Ava weren't my favorite as a couple and I wish there had been more development between the two instead of just the attraction。 I didn't really feel the chemistry as much as I would have liked, especially knowing how well LaCour can write relationships。I would definitely recommend picking this book up。 It's really fun and well written and just an overall lovely story。 I don't think it will stick with me as long as her others books have, but I'm still so glad I finally got around to reading it。 。。。more

Honestly, I expected a bit more from the book but it was such a typical YA。。。 no real drama, unfortunately。 It was a bit unrealist to read about 18 yo who have the dream jobs, ride around in their own cars, have literally 0 problems in their lives and everything's going their way。 Honestly, I expected a bit more from the book but it was such a typical YA。。。 no real drama, unfortunately。 It was a bit unrealist to read about 18 yo who have the dream jobs, ride around in their own cars, have literally 0 problems in their lives and everything's going their way。 。。。more

Oh my God, this book was beautiful。 It made me smile a lot but also shed some tears。 I loved the friendship between Emi, Charlotte, Ava and Jamal and I love the love story between Emi and Ava。It's a slow book but it got me hooked right away。 The mystery surrounding Ava, discovering how her mom died, who her mom was, her setbacks cause of her sexuality and honestly, I loved her the moment she appeared。 This is only the third book by Nina LaCour I've read so far but I can honestly say she's one of Oh my God, this book was beautiful。 It made me smile a lot but also shed some tears。 I loved the friendship between Emi, Charlotte, Ava and Jamal and I love the love story between Emi and Ava。It's a slow book but it got me hooked right away。 The mystery surrounding Ava, discovering how her mom died, who her mom was, her setbacks cause of her sexuality and honestly, I loved her the moment she appeared。 This is only the third book by Nina LaCour I've read so far but I can honestly say she's one of my favorite authors。 There's something about the way she writes that always make me hooked right away (usually it takes me few chapters before I really get into a book)。 The only issue I had with this book what that sometimes I didn't wanna continue reading it, not cause it was bad (cause it wasn't, I loved it) but because I didn't wanna be finished with this book。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Rating: 3。5*It felt a little dry, i enjoy the building of the whole story and the way the context was introduce to the plot。 But i feel that Emi and Ava' s relationship was sort of intalove, which I didn't mind as much as I thought I would; but still it was weird because I saw moment of them bonding but also I can't say a single specific thing they talked about other that Ava's story。I liked it more than it looks based on my review, but I have a weird feeling with this one。 Rating: 3。5*It felt a little dry, i enjoy the building of the whole story and the way the context was introduce to the plot。 But i feel that Emi and Ava' s relationship was sort of intalove, which I didn't mind as much as I thought I would; but still it was weird because I saw moment of them bonding but also I can't say a single specific thing they talked about other that Ava's story。I liked it more than it looks based on my review, but I have a weird feeling with this one。 。。。more

Everything leads to you is a sweet, fun, wholesome read; a blend of mystery, coming-of-age, romance, with an abundance of heart-wrenchingly beautiful descriptions and lines。 And it's sapphic, which is why I started reading it in the first place。Emi Price is a production designer – a film buff, a hopeless romantic, and a genius。 Everything leads to you follows mainly her, and her best friend as they find a mysterious letter amongst the belongings of a deceased actor, which leads them on a whole Everything leads to you is a sweet, fun, wholesome read; a blend of mystery, coming-of-age, romance, with an abundance of heart-wrenchingly beautiful descriptions and lines。 And it's sapphic, which is why I started reading it in the first place。Emi Price is a production designer – a film buff, a hopeless romantic, and a genius。 Everything leads to you follows mainly her, and her best friend as they find a mysterious letter amongst the belongings of a deceased actor, which leads them on a whole journey to connect the dots。 Emi is super。 And relatable!!! Viewing the story through her lens was ethereal, like, with rose-tinted glasses。 Does that make sense? It was extremely visual (Thanks to LaCour’s writing!) and I could picture everything。 Her friendship with Charlotte is adorable, realistic and I love how they’re just two best friends, devoted and caring towards one another。 Their interactions are fun, littered with sarcasm, quips and repartees, which is my favouritee。 Honestly? It’s just so relieving to read a f/f story, which isn’t surrounded around homophobia, or the character’s sexual identity。 Emi, Ava and Morgan (and others, if I missed out!) are unapologetic about their identity, and they’re just… existing - if you know what I mean。 Same-sex relationships are talked about openly from the get-go in the book, and normalised, which gives space and time for the romance to take place with right pacing。 That’s not to say homophobia is completely ignored in the book – it isn’t。 But it isn’t the central topic or talked about 90% of the time either。 If you’re a film buff, you’ll LOVE this book。 And if you’re not already a movie buff, reading Everything leads to you will give you a whole insight into the movie industry, the effects of films and the illusions they create! It was pretty insightful reading new information about films, things I never thought of。 As for the (very much sapphic) romance, it a big slow-burn。 If you’re not into slow-paced romances, probably think reading the book over again, but imo it’s worth it。 It’s is so fucking compelling that it’s impossible to even notice the slow pace, and hey, the yearning for the people you ship to kiss is part of the process。 Like, Emi and Ava- their chemistry is just AMAZING。 its so bloody cute。 You’ll probably be crying by the end of the book, much like me。 Everyone and anyone needs to read Everything leads to you , especially my sapphic people out there。 。。。more

Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars。 A solid book, I really enjoyed it! I think I just read it at a point when I've been reading some amazing books, and had high standards because of Nina LaCour's other works。 What was most interesting about this book was how the main character Emi looks at the world through the lens of her job- a scene organizer, how she views the world as a movie sometimes, how she often imagines stories as fitting into movie templates, and how she views furniture。 But what I didn Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars。 A solid book, I really enjoyed it! I liked this story, and while I struggled a bit to like the main character, Emi, I enjoyed her journey, I particularly liked her best friend Charlotte。 I also really enjoyed that this wasn’t another coming out story, that Emi and Ava were comfortable with their sexuality and there wasn’t shame or anything because of it, it was a breath of fresh air。

Everything Leads To You3。5🤍Enjoyed the story, it was good, just not breath taking! There was one thing that left me confused: either Emi’s day has more than 24 hours, or I’m just terrible at managing my time 🤨 it just didn’t seem possible the amount of things they did each day if you take into account commuting, plus everyday things like showering and eating!! 🤷🏽‍♀️Despite that, I like that the romance wasn’t cheesy at all。

What I liked about the book:- it just had this really lovely and sweet tone。 It felt like Emi was learning to see people for who they are for the first time。 We see a little of her realizing her immense privilege - but not enough of that sinking in in my opinion - and learning that she has to see beyond that to see who other people are。 I'd say it was an interesting vignette about growing up。- I found the writing to be really captivating。- The characters were interesting, varied, and didn't alwa What I liked about the book:- it just had this really lovely and sweet tone。 It felt like Emi was learning to see people for who they are for the first time。 We see a little of her realizing her immense privilege - but not enough of that sinking in in my opinion - and learning that she has to see beyond that to see who other people are。 I'd say it was an interesting vignette about growing up。- I found the writing to be really captivating。- The characters were interesting, varied, and didn't always make the predictable "trope plot" decisions。- This is a book with two queer major characters that is not about the fact that they are queer。 (Ava has a bit of that going on, but even that isn't the crux of her story or problems。)- The whole book left me feeling like I was sitting in Juniper's apartment, sun streaming in, cozy furniture, ceramic mug of tea and plants everywhere。 And a book that can so perfectly transport you to a feeling place like that is always impressive。 But, I also wanted more。What I didn't like about the book: - There's basically no resolution or tie up of anything。 I don't need my books to have a pretty little bow on every single plot point, but。。。 one bow might be nice。 Maybe two? The beginning of the book is so intriguing because so many things are starting: Toby leaves, high school ends and the last summer together begins, there is a mystery to solve, a movie to make。。。 we literally don't get a bow on *any* of these things。- And as a result, everything feels low stakes。 At the predictable point (not a flaw in this book you just always need a climax) in the story where there is a misunderstanding and the relationship is put in peril you know they are eventually going to talk (because of how much book is left) and nothing any higher stakes than that ever happens。 No one ever doubts Emi's genius, Toby doesn't come home and demand they prove they met his terms, her relationship with Charlotte stays the same, no one suddenly doubts their planned path forward。。。 The film starts filming and that's。。。 just it。 We don't even get an epilogue telling us how the movie did。- On that point, the main plot conflict was。。。 meh at best。 It could have simply been solved by Emi opening her mouth and explaining herself。 "Oh, I didn't mean that, I was just thinking。。。" problem solved。 Like I get that so many plot problems are solved with communication, but I mean, this could have been one simple sentence that turned the whole scene around。 I was annoyed that the plot was supposed to hang on this one throw away conversation。 Emi didn't even say anything hurtful, until Ava explains *why* this hurt her in the resolution the fact that she was so upset over the nothing comment that could have been explained in one simple sentence was nonsensical to me。I don't have a problem with Slice of Life books。 In fact, sometimes that's what I love。。。 but my problem is that this book was set up with the promise to be a Coming of Age meets Old Hollywood Mystery and it doesn't deliver on that promise。 What it is is lovely, and almost dreamy to read, but it's not what it says it might be。I would still say read it, the problems weren't story ruining or book breaking。。。 I'd say my real closing thoughts are that it was truly lovely, and yet, I feel like it could have been even more。 。。。more
