Meet Punpun Punyama。 He's an average kid in an average town。 He wants to win a Nobel Prize and save the world。 He wants to go far away with his true love。 He wants to find some porn。 But Punpun's life is about to unravel。。。
If I wasn’t obsessed with this book I am now, the backstories of characters are so real and common it makes you want to sympathize with them。
katie,
I like how the series is progressing! we learn more about punpun's uncle, yuichi, in this volume, which I enjoyed a lot。 the story around him does get dark but it was nice to know more about what's going on in his head。 the story with punpun was less interesting in my opinion, but it got more intriguing towards the end and I did like hearing more about his relationship to aiko。 I can definitely see how the series is going to get progressively more depressing, as this volume did have some more in I like how the series is progressing! we learn more about punpun's uncle, yuichi, in this volume, which I enjoyed a lot。 the story around him does get dark but it was nice to know more about what's going on in his head。 the story with punpun was less interesting in my opinion, but it got more intriguing towards the end and I did like hearing more about his relationship to aiko。 I can definitely see how the series is going to get progressively more depressing, as this volume did have some more intense depression/suicide themes。 however, it was sort of hopefully depressing at times and I liked that a lot。if you liked the first volume, you'll like this one。 。。。more
Brittany,
4 stars for the story, but like -27 stars for the dynamic between a 16 and 26 year old。。。"I want one person who knows me from the top of my head to the tips of my toes, without a millimeter of misunderstanding。""Being so excessively happy makes you insecure, makes you wonder how long the good days will last。 True happiness is a fleeting thing, so maybe we're meant to go all out and enjoy it while we can。" 4 stars for the story, but like -27 stars for the dynamic between a 16 and 26 year old。。。"I want one person who knows me from the top of my head to the tips of my toes, without a millimeter of misunderstanding。""Being so excessively happy makes you insecure, makes you wonder how long the good days will last。 True happiness is a fleeting thing, so maybe we're meant to go all out and enjoy it while we can。" 。。。more

Ratso,
Yowza this series sure is dark/weird/sort of surreal? I can always count on Inio Asano to give me an experience unlike anything I’ve read before
Elena,
Includes volumes 3&4:Volume 3: 3 ⭐️ (Punpun in middle school and his no-relationship with Aiko)Volume 4: 3 ⭐️ (more about Yuichi's past)This manga keeps getting more and more depressive :(This arc focuses on Yuichi (Punpun's uncle) whom I really liked but after this volume I don't know anymore。 In this manga no one seems to be free of sin。Punpun starts to lose his childhood innocence, the kids are not close friends anymore。 Includes volumes 3&4:Volume 3: 3 ⭐️ (Punpun in middle school and his no-relationship with Aiko)Volume 4: 3 ⭐️ (more about Yuichi's past)This manga keeps getting more and more depressive :(This arc focuses on Yuichi (Punpun's uncle) whom I really liked but after this volume I don't know anymore。 In this manga no one seems to be free of sin。Punpun starts to lose his childhood innocence, the kids are not close friends anymore。 。。。more

Another bleak masterpiece。。。“Spring would definitely arrive soon。There was no such thing as endless winter。Punpun was sure that because today has been so terrible。。。。。。something unbelievably wonderful must be about to happen tomorrow。And if not tomorrow, then the next day or the next month or in a few years。。。。。。there would be an unbelievably wonderful day。。。That’s what he wanted to believe。It was like a prayer。。。 But to whom? For now。。。。。。just go to sleep。Goodnight, Punpun。”

Brilliant situational comedy & bleak, traumatic insights into life and love。 Hilarious, gross, depressing, and hopeful。 The art has gotten better and more characters have their histories revealed。This one focuses quite a bit on Uncle, who is both a depraved moron and a lovable member of the Onodera family。 Highly recommend。
Geoff,
there's a lot of focus on punpun's uncle in this one, who is just as if not more fucked up than punpun himself there's a lot of focus on punpun's uncle in this one, who is just as if not more fucked up than punpun himself 。。。more
Eric,
An incredibly heavy volume, and probably the most nihilistic book I've read yet, it's very raw and draining i had to stop regularly to keep myself sane。 An incredibly heavy volume, and probably the most nihilistic book I've read yet, it's very raw and draining i had to stop regularly to keep myself sane。 。。。more
Andy,
Still weird but it has taken a more serious form。 The story is complex and explores really big themes well。 I get the series more now。

The addition of Punpun’s bro storyline kept me reading through the volume and his story(+ message) REALLY hits me。 Also, seeing Punpun’s descend got me more interested in his character。 I hope this manga’s progression continues to get better and better!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Eu fico impressionada com tamanha qualidade que esse mangá tem! Adamo Orsini,
This volume focused on the backstory of Punpun's uncle, and continues to show the breakdown of each character in the story。 Not one character in here is happy, each is depressed in their own way, and we learned the source of the uncle's depression in this volume。The art really makes this series more emotional, by contrasting detailed scenes to completely abstract and dark-coloured scratches on the paper to convey the emotions of each character。Loving this so far, knowing it'll just get more and This volume focused on the backstory of Punpun's uncle, and continues to show the breakdown of each character in the story。 Not one character in here is happy, each is depressed in their own way, and we learned the source of the uncle's depression in this volume。The art really makes this series more emotional, by contrasting detailed scenes to completely abstract and dark-coloured scratches on the paper to convey the emotions of each character。Loving this so far, knowing it'll just get more and more depressing as Punpun is about to start high school。 。。。more

when reading i generally look for works that reflect familiar situations back at me and make me feel understood- this series has made me feel more understood than i have in a long time。 it's definitely not for everyone but i would encourage others to at least try the first volume! you may encounter a piece of your own psyche in punpun, like i have。 when reading i generally look for works that reflect familiar situations back at me and make me feel understood- this series has made me feel more understood than i have in a long time。 it's definitely not for everyone but i would encourage others to at least try the first volume! you may encounter a piece of your own psyche in punpun, like i have。 。。。more
