this book 。。。。 was fucking painful to read。 i could not finish it。i think this is genuinely the author worst work and it’s disappointing because the last series wasn’t a masterpiece but at least it was somewhat enjoyable and somewhat something i could finish。 the writing was basic, not developed and overall a bore to read。 The repetition of male and female is super uncomfy and the fake feminism, (which is truly just white feminism) and the whole handling of PTSD was just 。。。 a choice。 Overall, n this book 。。。。 was fucking painful to read。 i could not finish it。i think this is genuinely the author worst work and it’s disappointing because the last series wasn’t a masterpiece but at least it was somewhat enjoyable and somewhat something i could finish。 the writing was basic, not developed and overall a bore to read。 The repetition of male and female is super uncomfy and the fake feminism, (which is truly just white feminism) and the whole handling of PTSD was just 。。。 a choice。 Overall, no character development, no real plot and bad representation。Of course i can’t judge the whole thing as i didn’t finish it but wow, what i did read was baaaaadd 。。。more

The plot was rough to say the least and was very rushed in the last 70 pages, the only saving grace was that I love the characters so will enjoy anything with them basically。。

There were a lot of good themes in this book。 Redemption, recovery, female friendships, family and love all came in。 Nesta's journey of recovery was interesting, and I loved her friendship with Gwyn and Emerie。 But at 749 pages, lots of repetitive sex and lots of padding, it could have done with a good editing, removing some 200 pages that I skimmed through。 The back stories of the Fae and the history could have been expanded on。 There were a lot of good themes in this book。 Redemption, recovery, female friendships, family and love all came in。 Nesta's journey of recovery was interesting, and I loved her friendship with Gwyn and Emerie。 But at 749 pages, lots of repetitive sex and lots of padding, it could have done with a good editing, removing some 200 pages that I skimmed through。 The back stories of the Fae and the history could have been expanded on。 。。。more

Loved the book。 I appreciate when the writers allow the characters to evolve and show the journey。

Hmmmmm I like it more than the ACOTAR: Christmas Edition book but it was super long and not much happened??? Also dare I say it, too much sex?!?! Cassian is really a bit nothingy and the best bits were about the ladies。 Gwyn was a cherub and can't wait to read more about her but other than that。。。。 meh? I loved nesta’s perspective even though she made me cry a lot。。。 also sjm hinted a lot about other worlds。。。 maybe a more serious connection between throne of glass/ crescent city/ a court of thorns and roses coming soon??

i cannot believe sarah j maas got me to care about and CRY over nesta archeron, but here we are。this book is so deliciously smutty and yet dives into trauma and mental health so beautifully。 (tw for themes of alcohol abuse, depression, sexual assault) this。。。。。。might be my favorite in the series??? i'm truly shocked at how much i loved this, how much i didn't want it to end。 it's so character driven, whereas the other acotar books had a helping more of plot。 and really, i feel like the plot in t i cannot believe sarah j maas got me to care about and CRY over nesta archeron, but here we are。this book is so deliciously smutty and yet dives into trauma and mental health so beautifully。 (tw for themes of alcohol abuse, depression, sexual assault) this。。。。。。might be my favorite in the series??? i'm truly shocked at how much i loved this, how much i didn't want it to end。 it's so character driven, whereas the other acotar books had a helping more of plot。 and really, i feel like the plot in this was just kinda devised so that there was a reason to go back and explore nesta's character, her development and journey, the friendships she forms (!!!), and her relationship with cassian — and i'm completely fine with that。 like i dreaded reading a book about nesta and now this book has me wanting to reread the series and become my full high fae, night court loving 2016 self and it is just WILD。 i don't know what comes next for this series (is nesta getting a trilogy? will we be moving on to other characters?? is it finished???) but it looks i'll be diving head first (~fearless~) into whatever it is, because miss sarah has renewed her hold on me — at least when it comes to this series。 。。。more

I loved Nestas friendship with the other girls and their determination to become warriors for themselves more than anything else。 I still have mixed feelings for Nesta though by the end I did like her

After thinking about it, three stars seems fitting。 I read this book because Nesta and Cassian have been two of my favorite character throughout the series。 I wasn't sure how having Nesta as a narrator would impact my feelings about her after I grew to dislike Feyre and Rhysand in a Court of Wings and Ruin。 Turns out, one of the things I loved about this book was Nesta's narration。 I appreciated her personal growth and that so much came from her finding her own friends and her own home outside o After thinking about it, three stars seems fitting。 I read this book because Nesta and Cassian have been two of my favorite character throughout the series。 I wasn't sure how having Nesta as a narrator would impact my feelings about her after I grew to dislike Feyre and Rhysand in a Court of Wings and Ruin。 Turns out, one of the things I loved about this book was Nesta's narration。 I appreciated her personal growth and that so much came from her finding her own friends and her own home outside of the Inner Circle。That being said, the thing I hated most about this book is Cassian and Nesta's romantic development。 I found myself so annoyed every time they would have a meaningful conversation and I would read an immediate sex scene or a recount of all the sex they had afterward。 There were scenes where one of them would think about comforting the other or reassuring the other and the only thing they can think of is to fuck them。 I'm all for sex positivity but when the scenes are so gratuitous and there's practically no other relationship development beyond it。。。 it just angered me because I had loved Cassian and Nesta in the past two weeks and I had expected way more development with a lot more conversations between them。 I can't leave this review without addressing the absolute hypocrisy of the Inner Circle。 You're telling me it's okay to force Nesta to go the House of Wind because she's spending too much money on alcohol and sleeping with too many randoms guys because of grief and PTSD, but Tamlin's unforgivable act was locking Feyre in the Spring Court castle when she was in a moment of desperation? Nesta wasn't always nice to them, but they've also treated her like shit and the only actual apologies come from Feyre and Amren。 The last thing I wanted from this book was for Nesta to somehow become part of the Inner Circle, and while her relationships with them have gotten better, I'm so glad Nesta has the Valkyries。 I'm not sure if I'll be reading the next books in this series, I might read Elain's book if she gets one but that's about it since I really don't have any interest in the next oncoming war this book sets up。 content and trigger warnings: grief, ptsd, depression, mentions and description of rape, mention and description of child abuse, pregnancy complications (including complications during labor than almost lead to death), blood, and instances of mind manipulation。 。。。more

SJM really needs to learn to trim the fat in her stories。。。 way too long of a book。 But I did tear up in a few parts about the power of female friendships and acceptance。

I was going to skip this book because SJM has just been getting worse and worse in terms of graphic sexual content and needing to edit her books (they are just TOO long), also I wasn't a huge fan of Nesta in the trilogy so a book about her didn't seem that appealing, but obviously I ended up trying it anyway。I wasn't wrong about the sexual content and it being too long, but somehow the book ended and I still wanted more。 Without the gratuitous and flat out ridiculous sex scenes, I would possibly I was going to skip this book because SJM has just been getting worse and worse in terms of graphic sexual content and needing to edit her books (they are just TOO long), also I wasn't a huge fan of Nesta in the trilogy so a book about her didn't seem that appealing, but obviously I ended up trying it anyway。I wasn't wrong about the sexual content and it being too long, but somehow the book ended and I still wanted more。 Without the gratuitous and flat out ridiculous sex scenes, I would possibly have given this book 4 stars。 The story itself as a continuation of ACOWAR was interesting, and watching Nesta's growth was much more satisfying and entertaining than I expected。 She has written multiple characters that are "broken" and then find themselves through a love interest and I felt like it would be too much of the same (which some parts were) but Nesta and Cassian are so different from her other characters that it played out differently and thus was more interesting。 I don't personally relate to wanting to lash out at everyone around me as a defense mechanism, but I somehow was convinced of how someone could become that way and enjoyed watching Nesta slowly find her way out of those bad habits while not excusing them。I'm glad this is not considered YA anymore because it is SOOOO not YA。 I think it's rather cruel of her to so radically change just how much sexual content is in this series from the beginning。 How many teenagers started reading this series, and now are stuck with these ridiculous and utterly unrealistic sex scenes? (view spoiler)[I REALLY don't need to know in detail how they had to masturbate THREE TIMES to get over their horniness。 Like, that isn't a thing is it? I know they are Fae so does that mean they are just so much more aroused all the time especially when it's their mate? It's just so over the top and frankly a little disgusting to go into that much exaggeration and detail。 Also I REALLLLLYY don't need to know just how large Cassian is。 And how unrealistic that is anyway! Why does the fact that all these "males" are so huge need to be a thing? Why do they all have to be drop dead gorgeous to anyone they meet? WHY do they have the ability to get erect SO soon after sex? These are all details that setup any teenager for unhealthy expectations and make me just roll my eyes。 (hide spoiler)]If I wasn't so invested in this story to begin with (mostly from ACOMAF) then I'm sure I would have put this book down at around page 200 or so。 It was just SO much and it seemed to be the majority of the story which was totally NOT what I'm here for。 Also the language in this book is RIDICULOUS。 I wish I had read the kindle version so I could easily count how many f-words she used because I'm sure it's in the hundreds。 I'm not even completely opposed to language in books。 There are plenty of times it makes sense for it to be there, but she overused it SOOO much and almost completely ignored all the swear words she made up for the series like Cauldron and Mother。 I just really abhor seeing "f---" used to described sex SO MUCH。 Like it just makes it feel so lustful and ditry and selfish--the absence of love。It was really interesting to see the Inner Circle dynamic from Nesta and Cassian's POV, particularly Feyre and Rhysand。 I wish we had more scenes with Feyre, but I liked what we got。 (view spoiler)[It wasn't entirely unexpected, but I had wished she'd have made it harder for Feyre to get pregnant。 She was ready in ACOFAS, but it's supposedly so hard and rare for Fae to have kids and if they only have periods every 6 months, then she basically got pregnant right away。 She also threw in there that Vivian was pregnant, which was also super fast。 You can't just say these things about a culture/people and then completely ignore it when it comes to your characters。 But all that aside, I feel like I got a better understanding of Rhysand。 He really has quite a temper which I suppose Feyre does too, but since she grew up human she ends up balancing him out。 I can imagine that having her as his mate has really helped him not react quite as badly as he used to。 They claimed in ACOMAF that it was all an act, but we can see here (and at other times in the series) that when he's angry at something (usually involving someone he loves) then he can be just as cruel and awful as the world saw him to be。I didn't like him not telling Feyre about the baby's birth likely killing her, but for some reason it didn't bother me as much as it should have。 I guess I assumed he wanted to process it more and wanted to tell her himself, so him telling the Inner Circle not to tell her was more to let him tell her in the best way possible。 But then I was distracted by all the other story going on that I didn't really think about it until Nesta told Feyre。 I really thought that would blow up more between Rhys and Feyre than it did because she has asked him SOO many times to not leave her out of things ESPECIALLY involving life and death。 But he still didn't want to。 Basically he was an emotionally mess throughout this book because of the pregnancy。 I assume there was some pretty harsh reactions from Feyre that we didn't see before they "made up。" Also if they possibly only had 6 months or so to live then I wouldn't want to stay mad at him either。 I would have been mad at Nesta too for sharing it with Feyre in such an insensitive way and not on his terms, but he also let it go WAY too long。 And I knew she couldn't kill Feyre, Rhys, and the baby。 She wouldn't write a whole trilogy about them just to have them die now, but it certainly got closer than I expected it would。 I've seen some people mad about SJM magically saving the baby and Feyre because it would hit too close to home for people that have personal experiences with baby loss and labor difficulties, which is totally valid and understandable。 I personally expected Nesta to save Feyre with her death abilities somehow at the end and I was curious to see how it played out。 I don't know what to think about Nesta losing most of her power (a lot like Amren did), but I feel like it can't stop there。 Like she'll get it back somehow, or she actually kept more than she thinks。 Or maybe she didn't want her to keep being able to "Make" things and have too much power, though it was a characteristic that made her character that much more interesting。I think the House being her only friend at the beginning was one of my favorite parts。 It was just so funny to see her arguing with a house and everyone being confused by her relationship with it。 I think the reasoning of why it was showing people their worst experiences in the library was kind of weak, but the idea behind it was clever enough。I also was so scared that the book would end with Cassian being controlled by Briallyn and we wouldn't see the resolution of Feyre's pregnancy in this book, but she resolved all of it much quicker than I expected。 Which I think is partly why I felt like it needed a bit more at the end, despite it being too long。 She built up a lot of this and then it was all okay at the end。 Kind of the opposite issue of KoA where she took FOREVER to wrap everything up。I didn't really want them to win the Blood Rite because Cassian said only 12 had ever even made it up to the mountain in the past 500 YEARS。 And that was with Illyrians that had trained for basically their whole lives。 I know they trained hard in the 6-8 months or whatever it was but it's hard for me to believe that in that time they could reach a comparable skill to Cassian when he was their age。 Though the more I thought about it, it KIND OF makes sense because the Illyrians constantly underestimated them。 They could probably make it farther BECAUSE they had somewhat of an element of surprise。 Also I think having weapons in there made it a different experience than normal。 So perhaps it isn't as far-fetched as I initially thought? I'm glad it wasn't all three of them though so it wasn't exactly like Rhys, Azriel, and Cassian getting there at the same time。I kind of figured that Cassian and Nesta would be mates, but a part of me hoped that she would come up with something else that connected them because this whole "mate" business is getting old if it's as rare as she keeps claiming it to be。 But I actually wasn't nearly as annoyed as I thought I would be when it was revealed that they were。 Throughout the book I was seeing more and more how they really did match/compliment each other in a similar way to Rhys and Feyre。 It's also interesting to me that this is the first mate couple we've see where they didn't communicate mind to mind。 They also didn't feel the other person's emotions so acutely like Rhys and Feyre can, which I'm glad for。 It makes Rhysand and Feyre's relationship feel that much more different/special in it's own way。 I have to admit that I got little goosebumps when Nesta declared "My mate taught me well。" SJM excels at timing these sorts of reveals just right to give you all the feels。 ALSO I feel like I have to mention that when Cassian and Nesta made this bargain I thought it was guaranteed to be sexual。 Like I thought for sure she'd be all sultry and ask him to do something to her but it WASN'T。 She wanted space to internalize this whole mate business just like Feyre did。 (hide spoiler)]All that to say, this obviously got me thinking a lot and like SJM does there are parts I loved and parts I hated。 I know I'll read the next books in the series, but I also know I'll have to wade through the garbage to get to the story I want。 。。。more

Loved it。 What a great ending to this series! But I am still so sad it even ended! We have so many more people to get together!! Azriel and maybe with Gwyn?? What about Emerie?? She needs someone! But oh I loved cassian and nesta and her struggles and triumphs and the house, what a great “character”。 This installment made me laugh and cry and certain chapters my husband definitely appreciated! THI I’ve seen a lot of reviews say that this book has no “plot”。 I’d argue that the true story is Nesta’s growth throughout the book and coping with all the sh*t she’s been through - trying to heal, find her purpose and self worth。That being said I do understand the critics about the secondary plot about Queen Briallyn。 Certain events would pop up here and there but it very much felt a it was happening in the background of the overall story。I honestly forgot about it at times。THE VALKYRIE PLOT T THI I’ve seen a lot of reviews say that this book has no “plot”。 I’d argue that the true story is Nesta’s growth throughout the book and coping with all the sh*t she’s been through - trying to heal, find her purpose and self worth。That being said I do understand the critics about the secondary plot about Queen Briallyn。 Certain events would pop up here and there but it very much felt a it was happening in the background of the overall story。I honestly forgot about it at times。THE VALKYRIE PLOT THOUGH! *Chef’s kiss* I love it so much。 Emerie and Gwyn have my heart, and I’m so happy that they were introduced。 Plus, it gave us a beautiful found family (and who doesn’t like the found family troupe?!) A good redemption story。 I found it to be an extremely powerful and decently action-packed journey of self-acceptance, healing, realization, resilience, and perseverance for one of the Archeron sisters。 We could see that Nesta was not a very well-liked individual in ACOTAR, ACOMAF, ACOWAR and ACOFAS - and you can completely see why she would not necessarily be an easy favorite character for most readers。 Similar to others who have left reviews, with this character driven book Sarah J。 Maas took A good redemption story。 I found it to be an extremely powerful and decently action-packed journey of self-acceptance, healing, realization, resilience, and perseverance for one of the Archeron sisters。 We could see that Nesta was not a very well-liked individual in ACOTAR, ACOMAF, ACOWAR and ACOFAS - and you can completely see why she would not necessarily be an easy favorite character for most readers。 Similar to others who have left reviews, with this character driven book Sarah J。 Maas took a character I wasn't the biggest fan of to start with, and lead me to admire her inner strength, sympathise with her accounts, and ultimately scream my support for her until the very end。Nesta's early life is addressed briefly, a dysfunctional childhood full of training and influence from her mother preparing her for a specific future。 Only, that future was shattered with the happenings of her past, the trials and tribulations her family when through。 She has had a tough go of it, all the Archeron sisters have。 You see Nesta battling head-to-head with her inner demons and taking part in some risqué behavior, all in an effort to keep herself out of her own mind, all to keep her from being consumed by her own thoughts。 People saw it, but could not fully understand it, and no one can truly help someone, until they want to help themselves。Eventually, the people who love Nesta, all those who she has struck out at with her words, her actions - are fed up。 They drastically change their approach。 In all the other books, you never got to truly see the inner workings of Nesta's head。 This book had you diving headfirst into her mind, getting a glimpse of her true feelings, everything she acknowledges about herself and her actions yet does not let show - what she truly believes about herself - the self-blame, the guilt, the feelings of worthlessness。。。 EVERYTHING。 "Did she count–was she worth being counted? It was the question that sent everything crumpling inside her。" You see how much it takes for her to begin to heal, how much power another’s words can actually have over her, and how she can be quite vulnerable to them。 You see beneath the cold mask of indifference, the reasons behind it and behind her own adeptness at wielding words as weapons, where her hurt comes from。 How she was raised, how she processes information, how she deals with emotions and her ultimate battle with self-loathing and not feeling good enough - everything comes to a head in this book。 “’I hate it,’ she said。 ‘Every part of me that…does these things。 And yet I can’t stop it。 I can’t let down that barrier, because to let it fall, to let everything in…’ This was what would happen。 This shrieking weeping mess she would become。” "Some essential piece of herself clicked into place。 Some piece that whispered, Try。" Nesta's journey is one of healing, becoming strong in her own right, taking back that feeling of control that was taken from her, and dealing with the ramifications of having her body invaded when she was forcibly Cauldron Made。 She was introduced to a world her human life had conditioned her to find at fault, to hate。 It's a story that focuses on expression, inspiration, true friendship, found families, comradery, love, and sparking a new zest for life, this life, her life。 It was a page turner for me from start to finish, and I am very glad I decided to pick this up。 "Tell yourself, I am the rock against which the surf crashes。 Your thoughts are the surf。 Let them crash over you。""She was the rock against which the surf broke。 These males would break against her, too。""That's the key, isn’t it? To know the darkness will always remain, but how you choose to face it, handle it。。。 that's the important part。 To not let it consume。 To focus upon the good, the things that fill you with wonder。" Sarah J。 Maas introduces us to a few new characters who I absolutely adored and cannot wait to read more about in any future works regarding this series (Read: Gwyn, Emerie, the Valkyrie)。 The character development and attention to detail was it for me when it came to the everyone and their well-being。 The mentalities, issues and emotions addressed were done so in such a real way, easy to relate to, and really resonated with me。 So did Nesta's dealings with her inner-most emotions, and the treatment she receives from those around her。 It was an uphill battle and goes to show how people can really misunderstand each other, and how far continuing to make an effort can go。 “Keep reaching out your hand。” “Our stories are worth telling。” An element I particularly loved, were the embedded themes of self-discovery, self-acceptance and empowerment surrounding the memorable female characters。 Also, the romance element was well paced for me, I found it stayed true to Nesta's and Cassian’s characters and their individual struggles, with some welcome spice of course。 “He had called her Lady Death, and he was her sword。” “Your power is a song, and one I’ve waited a very, very long time to hear, Nesta。” All in all, my rating。。。 --> 4。7 stars。 Despite everything I loved about it, and the already impressive size, I was left with the feeling that this book could have been a bit longer。 Reflecting on my read, I felt as if I really only just got over Nesta’s true introduction and I was waiting for a tiny bit more action before the finish。 I would have liked to have read more centered around the exploration of Nesta and her powers, the Made items, and seen more of her capabilities before the end。 I wouldn’t mind some more Nessian moments either。 Concerning the plot and the big-bad at the end, I felt like things happened a little quickly - I was expecting just a bit more, you know? Don't get me wrong, it was still a great read and I’ll have a bit of a book hangover after this。 Also, I am definitely going to be recommending this book to people in the future。 I love how I say that as if I haven't started already! 。。。more
