Summary

On a snowy school day like any other, classmates and childhood friends Hiroshi and Mizuki arrive at school to find the campus eerily empty。 Before long, they find themselves trapped inside with six other friends, and even stranger, all the clocks have stopped at a very specific moment--the exact time when a former classmate jumped off the school roof to their death three months earlier。 It turns out that this departed friend is their way out of their current predicament and may even be among their group。。。but no one can remember who it was that took their life on that sad day。 The students must face themselves and their past memories to piece together the identity of this suicide victim or risk a similar fate--with their lives lost and forgotten inside these frigid school walls。

"A School Frozen in Time" is the manga you want to read if you are in the mood for a scary movie。 8 teens find themselves alone in a school with no explanation or its desertion。 Then they realize one of them shouldn’t be standing there with them after having killed themselves a few weeks prior。 Unfortunately, no one can remember who nor explain why the clocks stopped。 In an effort to figure out what is happening, the group split up in search of answers and, as it always goes in horror stories, s "A School Frozen in Time" is the manga you want to read if you are in the mood for a scary movie。 8 teens find themselves alone in a school with no explanation or its desertion。 Then they realize one of them shouldn’t be standing there with them after having killed themselves a few weeks prior。 Unfortunately, no one can remember who nor explain why the clocks stopped。 In an effort to figure out what is happening, the group split up in search of answers and, as it always goes in horror stories, someone goes missing。Within the first chapter, the author sets up reasons for various characters to be the ghost。 One student is over-stressed; another has a gambling addiction and probably a complex about his cousin; and a few others have relationship troubles。 The author also implies within the first few pages that the inciting incident may not have been suicide! If that’s the case, what happened? What are they supposed to remember? Also, what is so important about our MC? We mostly see from his point of view, but I don’t know that the author has established why yet。I would also like to note the beauty of the snow。 It works as both a great symbol to show how cold the world can be and as a communication wall。 Snow is associated with white noise and communication breakdowns。 None of the teens can get outside or communicate with anyone from the outside world。 It especially works because there is white noise in all their heads, blocking out their memories。 Even better, because this is set in Japan, would be if the ghost turned out to be a Yuki-Onna (snow woman)。 I don’t know if that’s where the story could/would go, but that would be totally cool。Overall, "A School Frozen in Time" has set itself up wonderfully to tell a great story through moderate background tension, allusions to similar horror stories, fantastic character set-ups, and the symbolism。 I am personally looking forward to reading more and would recommend this to all my teens! 。。。more

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha comic for giving me a opportunity to review this manga。Trigger warning: Suicide3。5 stars, rounded to 4This manga deals with the aftermath of a suicide and follows eight students trapped in a school with no way out。 It is a psychological thriller and I think so far the author is doing a great job establishing the characters and building the story。 It is often hard to judge first volumes cause you really don't know much about the story then。 So, I usually use Huge thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha comic for giving me a opportunity to review this manga。Trigger warning: Suicide3。5 stars, rounded to 4This manga deals with the aftermath of a suicide and follows eight students trapped in a school with no way out。 It is a psychological thriller and I think so far the author is doing a great job establishing the characters and building the story。 It is often hard to judge first volumes cause you really don't know much about the story then。 So, I usually use my likelihood of picking up the next volume as a measure for the first volume。 In that regard this one has been quite successful。 I am curious to know what happens and I trust the author to do a good job。 I liked that there were trigger warnings in the book。 There are also moments which are interjected by humour, which I really enjoy。 It takes quite some talent to pull that off。I hate the trope of the perverted character and there was one here。 Granted he didn't do much, but I'm just so tired of reading such characters in mangas。 I also feel kinda sketchy about the student who has a crush on the teacher。 So far there hasn't been any interactions between them on page, but I hope that it is handled properly。Final verdict it that it is worth the read。 。。。more

I can't wait to read more and find out I'm wrong and must come up with a new theory! I love intelligent mystery stories and this promises to be one! 。。。more

Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for giving me a free PDF version of this manga in exchange for an honest review!Described as a psychological thriller, this manga follows a group of high school teens as they try to figure out a mystery with the answer trapped in forgotten memories。 TRIGGER WARNING: This manga does deal with suicide and self harm。 (The summary does warn about this so good job to the publisher for making sure that’s added)Now, when I saw the summary I was unsure on how this was go Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for giving me a free PDF version of this manga in exchange for an honest review!Described as a psychological thriller, this manga follows a group of high school teens as they try to figure out a mystery with the answer trapped in forgotten memories。 TRIGGER WARNING: This manga does deal with suicide and self harm。 (The summary does warn about this so good job to the publisher for making sure that’s added)Now, when I saw the summary I was unsure on how this was going to play out。 As the manga progressed, it became。a bit more clear。 8 students are trapped within their high school, time stopped。 The only way to get out of the supposed suspended time is to remember their lost peer which seemingly all 8 students have forgotten。 Early on in the manga, you find out that in reality, one of those 8 students is the forgotten one and thus starts the mystery part。 The triller/psychological part comes from what happens when 2 students remember what happened that fateful day。I don’t want to go any farther in fear of spoiling too much but that is roughly what you figure out in the first 50-ish pages of the first volume。 Personally for me, I don’t know if I’m going to continue the series。 While the premise was interesting, the heavy bout of sexual jokes in the beginning nearly made me put it down。 Also most of the characters, in my opinion, kind of blend together。 There weren’t many unique qualities to them that kept them separate in my mind。 They kind of got grouped together and when a character referenced another, it took me a while to figure out who they were talking about。 You also have random flashbacks that seemingly come out of nowhere that you have surmise are flashbacks。 I was in a flashback scene for a few pages and didn’t realize it until I had to go back and reread sections to figure it out。 Overall, I’m on the fence about picking up the next volume of this as the premise is interesting but the characters are a big let down for me。 Let me know what you think! Until the next page turn! 。。。more

。。。more

I received an advanced reader copy from Netgalley and Kodansha in exchange for an honest review。I was drawn to this title by the interesting premise, but the execution fell a little short。 This could be due to slower pacing often associated with serialized works, so I hope that more time will be paid to character development in subsequent volumes。 But the stakes were not established well, and it was easy to get lost in conversations between characters。 Naoshi Arawakawa's art helped keep me inter I received an advanced reader copy from Netgalley and Kodansha in exchange for an honest review。I was drawn to this title by the interesting premise, but the execution fell a little short。 This could be due to slower pacing often associated with serialized works, so I hope that more time will be paid to character development in subsequent volumes。 But the stakes were not established well, and it was easy to get lost in conversations between characters。 Naoshi Arawakawa's art helped keep me interested in this book, but some of his backgrounds and character expressions were a little stiff at times。Very early on, we're introduced to the eight main characters, and because this cast was so large, it was difficult to get a sense of any of their personalities, wants, and needs。 They were all visually distinct, but I found it difficult to keep track of them throughout the book since none of them received much development and there were so many of them。 Although the students end up in a contained world, it was difficult to feel like this was detrimental since the "normal" world wasn't well established。 It felt like they went from one sparsely populated world to another, so there wasn't much of a reason for them to return to the "normal" world。 (I couldn't imagine what they had to lose, which is usually a keystone for mysteries like this story。 The characters mentioned that their situation resembled that of the characters' in The Drifting Classroom, but because of the lack of world development, that comparison fell short。)However, I am still a little invested in the main mystery, especially considering what happened to one of the characters about 2/3 of the way through this book, so I hope to give the next volume a chance。 。。。more

It wasn’t hard to rate this one。 I’m split right down the middle。 I’m quite interested in what’s going on, but it is moving a little slow for my tastes。 It makes me wonder if there will be a total of eight books in this series。 The art was pretty good。 I just really loved the cover in all of its colorful glory!! There were also a few parts that I was wishing were in color also。 It would make things really pop!! Sorry, I’ve got to see where this is going to really be able to recommend this one。 On to the next one I say!!! Thanks to NetGalley, Kodansha, and Vertical Comics for allowing me to read this for my honest and unbiased opinion。Check out this review and others on my blog @ https://shannarareads。com/?p=396Thank you!!! 。。。more

A School Frozen in Time is a supernatural suspense manga with a plot very similar to the somewhat famous manga & anime Another。Given that I enjoyed Another a lot, I was drawn in by the synopsis of A School Frozen in Time and it wasn't disappointment。 The set-up of the story if very well done and the characters are introduced as diverse people。 The last chapter had a great cliff hanger and I can't wait for volume 2。I recommend this for all fans of suspense and mystery。*Thanks to NetGalley and Kod A School Frozen in Time is a supernatural suspense manga with a plot very similar to the somewhat famous manga & anime Another。Given that I enjoyed Another a lot, I was drawn in by the synopsis of A School Frozen in Time and it wasn't disappointment。 The set-up of the story if very well done and the characters are introduced as diverse people。 The last chapter had a great cliff hanger and I can't wait for volume 2。I recommend this for all fans of suspense and mystery。*Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for providing me with an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review。* 。。。more
