Rosenthal has a talent for metaphor that is not heavy-handed, but that can be grasped by kids。 Spoon is envious of the things his different friends can do, but he doesn't understand that his friends notice what he is able to do and they can't, too。 Rosenthal has a talent for metaphor that is not heavy-handed, but that can be grasped by kids。 Spoon is envious of the things his different friends can do, but he doesn't understand that his friends notice what he is able to do and they can't, too。 。。。more

Genre: Modern Fantasy Grade Level: K-2ndThis book was so awesome and how it brought something as simple as silverware to life! It showed how each person has their own gifts and abilities and not everyone has the same gifts! We all experience life in our own way and that is a very special thing。 I would love to add this to my classroom one day。

Another find your inner swan book。 Not bad, but boring。 And you know - girl spoons and boy spoons。 Though it does end with spooning so I suppose it could be worse。 Not something I'd want to read over and over again。 Another find your inner swan book。 Not bad, but boring。 And you know - girl spoons and boy spoons。 Though it does end with spooning so I suppose it could be worse。 Not something I'd want to read over and over again。 。。。more

Young spoon thinks the other utensils have a better, more exciting time。 But mother and father spoon show little spoon all there is to be thankful for。 A sweet and humorous book about comparing yourself to others and balancing that by thinking about all you have to be grateful for。

A cute story about teaching children how lucky they are to be themselves。 Little spoon things the other utensils are so lucky。 Momma-Big Spoon helps him see just how lucky he is。

Clever discussion of being different。

I miss Amy Krouse Rosenthal。 This is the story of a sentient spoon。 What do you think he uses for pillows when he's tucked up in bed? Well, sugar packets, of course。 I miss Amy Krouse Rosenthal。 This is the story of a sentient spoon。 What do you think he uses for pillows when he's tucked up in bed? One in a trilogy (other titles are Straw and Chopsticks)。 This fun story focuses on the value of gaining self-confidence, and not always wishing for what others have or can do。 The story is told using utensils: a spoon is jealous of what other utensils can do, and his mom helps him come to terms with it all。 The story ends perfectly, with the family snuggling (spooning) in bed。

K

I want to be spoon because spoons can go in ice cream。

This book demonstrates how everyone is unique and different and what I like most about it is that the author used utensils to prove that point。 It hadn't been done before。 What I also liked was the addition of chopsticks as another utensil。 There's the basics of knife, fork and spoon, but I thought the chopsticks was also a nice touch。 Needless to say I like different。The illustrations were nicely done as well。 Very colorful, but not as bright or bold as other books and I think it worked with th This book demonstrates how everyone is unique and different and what I like most about it is that the author used utensils to prove that point。 It hadn't been done before。 What I also liked was the addition of chopsticks as another utensil。 There's the basics of knife, fork and spoon, but I thought the chopsticks was also a nice touch。 Needless to say I like different。The illustrations were nicely done as well。 Very colorful, but not as bright or bold as other books and I think it worked with the story。 The pictures stood out without taking anything away from the plot and lesson。My favorite part is that Spoon had an aunt that ran away with a dish and it was told to him as a bed time story。 Very cute。 。。。more

What an adorable book。 Very interesting concept and I loved how the great-grandmother ran off with a dish (great nursey rhyme reference)。 I also liked the ending about the word play on "spoon'。 The illustrations are great too! For: spoon fans; readers looking for a book with puns that emphasizes that everyone is important。Possible red flags: feeling left out/not special。

A cute little book by a veteran。 It's not as innovative and exciting as Spork but I'll be pairing them for an upcoming storytime and this really is quite cute for a themed StoryTime。 Plus, I'm always a fan of books that show children different perspectives and remind them that who they are is valued even when they can't see it for themselves。 A cute little book by a veteran。 It's not as innovative and exciting as Spork but I'll be pairing them for an upcoming storytime and this really is quite cute for a themed StoryTime。 Plus, I'm always a fan of books that show children different perspectives and remind them that who they are is valued even when they can't see it for themselves。 。。。more

Simple book that encourages one to accept who they are because we are unique in our own traits。 A spoon learns to stop being jealous of the forks and knives, and to embracing being able to 'dive head first into a bowl of ice cream!' The illustrations aren't the best, but the plot and theme are powerful! Spoon did his own things , such as stir and scoop, but he wished he could do what his friends - fork, knife, chopsticks - did。 His mother showed him how special his job really is。 Cute story and illustrations。

This is a great book that I feel can help children express feelings of envy and also teaches appreciating your own strengths and privileges。 It can also be used to teach personification。 It could be a good way to teach children about positive thinking as well。

Who has it better, the fork, the knife, or the spoon? Very clever。

Debbie

Such a delightful read for young children! Spoon wishes he can be more like Fork, Knife and Chopsticks until he is gently guided to celebrate his uniqueness。 I loved this story!

Emma

Spoon, you were meant for something far greater。。。to reproduce with fork and become。。。SPORK!

Alyson

Cute with a sweet message。

This book is perfect for kids in grades K-2。 This is a unique story about kitchen utensils and a spoon who feels like he isn't special。 This would be a great story for kids who may not feel like they are unique。 The illustrations in this book look like watercolor but they also look a little more refined than watercolor but I haven't been able to find how they were actually made。 I would use this book to teach a persuasive writing lesson to argue which kitchen utensil is better。 I think that woul This book is perfect for kids in grades K-2。 This is a unique story about kitchen utensils and a spoon who feels like he isn't special。 This would be a great story for kids who may not feel like they are unique。 The illustrations in this book look like watercolor but they also look a little more refined than watercolor but I haven't been able to find how they were actually made。 I would use this book to teach a persuasive writing lesson to argue which kitchen utensil is better。 I think that would be a fun and quirky assignment for kids to think about。 。。。more

A story about being happy with who you are。 Spoon is jealous of knife and fork and even chopsticks。 But he learns that they are jealous of him。。。 and begins to appreciate his unique role in the world of silverware。

Spoon is sad that he can’t do the same things as the other utensils until his mother reminds him of all the unique things that spoons can do。This picture book expresses the classic children’s moral that everyone is special in his or her own way。 It is also a reminder that everyone has different abilities and limitations, but that doesn’t make anyone better than anybody else。

Spoon gets to be used a lot。 He knows that he is valued and helps whoever he cans。 However, one day he is not sure anymore。 He looks at Fork, Knife, and chopsticks and begins to think that they have way more than he does。 He sees them being used for things that he cant and wonders if they are better than him。 This is a great book that addresses one's differences and what they mean。 A misconception that a lot of people have is that differences aren’t weaknesses, they are strengths。 This book has Spoon gets to be used a lot。 He knows that he is valued and helps whoever he cans。 However, one day he is not sure anymore。 He looks at Fork, Knife, and chopsticks and begins to think that they have way more than he does。 He sees them being used for things that he cant and wonders if they are better than him。 This is a great book that addresses one's differences and what they mean。 A misconception that a lot of people have is that differences aren’t weaknesses, they are strengths。 This book has puns and has a humorous approach to it as well。 This would be good for young readers because it has simplistic text with a deep message。 This will help students realize that although others may be able to do things that we cant, so can we。 。。。more
