Summary

'Julia Cameron invented the way people renovate the creative soul' New York Times

Since its first publication, The Artist's Way has inspired the genius of Elizabeth Gilbert, Tim Ferriss, and millions of readers to embark on a creative journey and find a deeper connection to process and purpose。 Julia Cameron guides readers in uncovering problems and pressure points that may be restricting their creative flow and offers techniques to free up any areas where they might be stuck, opening up opportunities for self-growth and self-discovery。

The program begins with Cameron's most vital tools for creative recovery - The Morning Pages, a daily writing ritual of three pages of stream-of-conscious, and The Artist Date, a dedicated block of time to nurture your inner artist。 From there, she shares hundreds of exercises, activities, and prompts to help readers thoroughly explore each chapter。 She also offers guidance on starting a "Creative Cluster" of fellow artists who will support you in your creative endeavours。

A revolutionary program for personal renewal, The Artist's Way will help get you back on track, rediscover your passions, and take the steps you need to change your life。

。。。more

A great journey that I recommend embarking on with some friends。 Today, we finally finished the twelve week journey and I was able to learn and shift my perspective on a lot of different aspects of my life。 I want to acknowledge that there were many things she said that I didn’t fully agree with, and ideas that felt very dated or they haven’t been my personal experienced。 I took those passages with a grain of salt。 I owned this book for three years and carried it everywhere but didn’t read it un A great journey that I recommend embarking on with some friends。 Today, we finally finished the twelve week journey and I was able to learn and shift my perspective on a lot of different aspects of my life。 I want to acknowledge that there were many things she said that I didn’t fully agree with, and ideas that felt very dated or they haven’t been my personal experienced。 I took those passages with a grain of salt。 I owned this book for three years and carried it everywhere but didn’t read it until I finally felt ready to be open, and actually committed to doing the work。 Overall, the journey was a great experience。 I grew to enjoy morning pages, and now have a much more clear understanding of what beliefs have serve me, and what I no longer need in my life。For those days or weeks when you might want to quit or rebel against the tasks, I suggest taking a deep breath and calling up a friend who might help keep you accountable。 I highly recommend it。 “Water seeks its own level and water rises collectively。” -Julia Cameron 。。。more

This book has changed my life。 I’ve gained a new vision for my purpose and a psychologist that I don’t have to pay for。。。it’s all revealed throughout the pages of this book! I highly recommend going through it a chapter per week and with a small group +moderator if you can find it。 Going at it alone is hard for most。 My moderator was: Gordon McGregor @thegordonmcgregor Can’t wait to see how the rest of my life unfolds!

Apparently all creative people have a scared and insecure artist child inside them, one that needs to be treated with care and one that needs a 12 step program to get "unblocked"。 But God wants to use that inner child to create stuff in the world, you just let him work through you。 Addictions are just a way to block the creative juices because the inner child is scared and does not want you to succeed。 Yes, because so many famous writers have not been drunks and musicians junkies? I accidentally deleted this from my library。I was not a Morning Pages Devotee which nearly got me mobbed in my first AW class。 I knew I would't get up earlier to do them。 I gave myself permission to do them before I went to bed, and, that way, they got done。 The other members of that class stared at me through blood-shot sleep deprived eyes with fire。 Oh well。Did the AW a second time with my now husband who was skeptical at the time telling me he already felt connected to his creativity。 He join I accidentally deleted this from my library。I was not a Morning Pages Devotee which nearly got me mobbed in my first AW class。 I knew I would't get up earlier to do them。 I gave myself permission to do them before I went to bed, and, that way, they got done。 The other members of that class stared at me through blood-shot sleep deprived eyes with fire。 Oh well。Did the AW a second time with my now husband who was skeptical at the time telling me he already felt connected to his creativity。 He joined in though and become a huge and still current fan。 。。。more

I was amazed to see that the average of this book didn't have 5 stars。 To me this is a five star (or six even) book。 It changed my life。 I really wished I had read this book earlier in my career。 It talks about creativity and writing-my passions。 I don't think have a read a book in my life that nailed it that well。I would definitely recommend it to all artists who are too scared to play it big。 There is so much in this book and it's written with love and compassion。 I was amazed to see that the average of this book didn't have 5 stars。 To me this is a five star (or six even) book。 It changed my life。 I really wished I had read this book earlier in my career。 It talks about creativity and writing-my passions。 I don't think have a read a book in my life that nailed it that well。I would definitely recommend it to all artists who are too scared to play it big。 There is so much in this book and it's written with love and compassion。 。。。more

Insufferable。 This book has nothing to do with art, a lot to do with typical American self-indulgence。

I've been reading this little by little as part of my morning devotional for the past year。 It's a fascinating read, and I'm looking forward to digging back in to maybe do many of the exercises listed at the end of each chapter。 This book gave me a lot to think about, and it is so full of great quotes。。。I know I'll want to go back and revisit these as well。 I've been reading this little by little as part of my morning devotional for the past year。 It's a fascinating read, and I'm looking forward to digging back in to maybe do many of the exercises listed at the end of each chapter。 This book gave me a lot to think about, and it is so full of great quotes。。。I know I'll want to go back and revisit these as well。 。。。more

This book, which is too meaninglessly lengthy in my opinion, could have been a more concise and better articulated article。

I did find the book interesting。 Some tasks are very creative and intuitive as well。 It helped me a lot throughout my tough times。 Although I would suggest the readers, they must not be disappointed with themselves if they can't be consistent at the daily and weekly tasks。 Do the tasks by your inner instincts and not just because you have to complete them。 Also, do those which 'resonate' the most with you the most, as it's you and not the author who knows your personal traits and flavours。Daily I did find the book interesting。 Some tasks are very creative and intuitive as well。 It helped me a lot throughout my tough times。 Although I would suggest the readers, they must not be disappointed with themselves if they can't be consistent at the daily and weekly tasks。 Do the tasks by your inner instincts and not just because you have to complete them。 Also, do those which 'resonate' the most with you the most, as it's you and not the author who knows your personal traits and flavours。Daily journaling has its own perks ;)。 Especially recommended for blocked creatives。 。。。more

I really like the tools of writing morning pages and the artist date。 There are some thought-provoking bits in the essays, that I enjoyed, too。 Overall I really wanted to get more out of the Artist's Way, but for my taste it's often not specific enough。 The idea that anybody can be creative is all good and well, but I feel there is a lot of wasted potential。 Maybe it just hasn't aged well。 It would have been much more helpful, if it was written for a more specific audience。 I already considered I really like the tools of writing morning pages and the artist date。 There are some thought-provoking bits in the essays, that I enjoyed, too。 Overall I really wanted to get more out of the Artist's Way, but for my taste it's often not specific enough。 The idea that anybody can be creative is all good and well, but I feel there is a lot of wasted potential。 Maybe it just hasn't aged well。 It would have been much more helpful, if it was written for a more specific audience。 I already considered myself a creative before picking up the book, for me it was more about unblocking and allowing myself to be creative in new areas。 If you are an artist, most of what you'll get out of this book are the tools and some inspiration, the rest you'll have to bring to the table yourself。 It's better to do the Artist weeks with a partner that you trust, because that way it's more likely you're going to stumble over questions and insights that are relevant for you。 。。。more

Quite possibly the most insightful thing I have ever read。

When I first read this。。。maybe 15 years ago or more, I found it eye-opening and I could see and respect its power。But reading it in 2021。。。totally transformative。 When you are ready for this book, it can change your life。

For years I've heard about it and had this book recommended to me。 Full disclosure I didn't do any of the journal questions, but I did start morning pages。 I love love love books written by those in recovery, as the language is deeply resonant。 It was an easier way to take on some inner child healing and I feel like it covered all of life, not just creativity。 I can see why it's so popular! Essential for the Artist。 Last time I read and practiced, I was in my twenties。 Twenty plus years later, this book remains a profound tool for “unblocking” and rising to your true creative calling。 Inspiration that nurtures productive self-work。 Highly recommend。

This isn’t just a book; it’s a spiritual guide and reading it has changed my life。 It’s a book you can revisit and that provides you with so many creative tasks to return to, so it will always be useful to me。 I would recommend it to anyone feeling creatively lost, or anyone that is curious about how to tap into their creativity。
