Summary

Chinese is the UK's favourite takeout food, and it's beloved all over the world – as with much Indian food, it's the nostalgic, comforting creations for western palates that really get people salivating。 Now you can make your favourite Chinese restaurant classics at home with Kwoklyn Wan's fabulous Chinese Takeaway Cookbook。 Kwoklyn is a third-generation Chinese chef: BBC (British-Born Chinese)。 He's also the brother of TV celebrity Gok Wan and both boys grew up working in their family's Cantonese Restaurant in Leicester in the 1970s。  He has spent years perfecting recipes for Chinese dishes that taste like the ones from your local takeaway kitchen or restaurant。 The book features 70 classic dishes, everything from sweet and sour chicken to char siu, prawn toast to chop suey, egg-fried rice to crispy seaweed – and most of them can be on the table in 20 minutes or less。 Cook up a storm at home with Kwoklyn's fabulous take on food from the takeaway。

Was really missing Chinese takeaway during the lockdown (we don't have a local restaurant) so bought this to get my 'fix'。 Wasn't expecting much as I've always suspected that the reason takeaway food tastes so good is the extra flavour imparted by their well seasoned woks and frying oil (and potentially the added MSG) but armed only with my flavourless non stick wok and having never deep fried a thing in my life, I set about making a Chinese banquet and couldn't believe the results。 I actually m Was really missing Chinese takeaway during the lockdown (we don't have a local restaurant) so bought this to get my 'fix'。 Wasn't expecting much as I've always suspected that the reason takeaway food tastes so good is the extra flavour imparted by their well seasoned woks and frying oil (and potentially the added MSG) but armed only with my flavourless non stick wok and having never deep fried a thing in my life, I set about making a Chinese banquet and couldn't believe the results。 I actually managed to produce something that tasted not too dissimilar to what you get from the takeaway!!!!!I tried:Prawn toastsHot and sour soupSweet and Sour Chicken ballsBeef and green pepper in black bean sauce。I was also planning to make plain chow mein but thanks to the substitution kings that are Asda home deliveries, I didn't get the bean sprouts I'd ordered。 Instead they furnished me with broccoli (I'd already ordered 2 bunches so get why not add a third)。。。 No idea why that's the substitution they went for and not say a tin of bean sprouts or maybe some mange tout 。。。。 Anyway I'm getting distracted here so back to the review 。。。The recipes are short, easy to follow use ingredients you can find in your local supermarket (if it's better than mine) and if not, you can definitely find in a Chinese supermarket or online。 In fact the only thing I couldn't get from my normal supermarket for the recipes was fermented black beans。The results were brilliant。 Tasted as good as a takeaway, if not better as I could adjust the heat and seasoning to my taste。 Thoroughly recommend this book。 。。。more

This is probably one of the best recipe books I've ever bought。 I'd decided to give up on takeaways this year but still wanted to enjoy the occasional Chinese dinner。 Previous attempts had always been lacking, but using this book, I have been able to recreate my favourite Chinese dishes, and make them taste so much better than the takeaway。 Highly recommended。 This is probably one of the best recipe books I've ever bought。 I'd decided to give up on takeaways this year but still wanted to enjoy the occasional Chinese dinner。 Previous attempts had always been lacking, but using this book, I have been able to recreate my favourite Chinese dishes, and make them taste so much better than the takeaway。 Highly recommended。 。。。more
