Summary

A decent read， one that actually surprises the reader with detail and nuances that many comics would miss of this type。 The combination of fairy tales and New York is an interesting mix， and throw-in a gum-show detective… you have an interesting premise。Overall， it is good but not great。 I do recommend giving it a try for something a little different or something that is unique mix of things。

This is my second time reading this volume， the first time being around 8-10 years ago。 I absolutely adore the concept - fairy tale characters living together in New York after being driven out of their home by an as yet unidentified monster known only as "The Adversary"。 There is also a short story at the end of the volume which serves as a prequel and describes how Bigby was convinced by Snow to join the others even though he was a dangerous outcast。 This is my second time reading this volume， the first time being around 8-10 years ago。 I absolutely adore the concept - fairy tale characters living together in New York after being driven out of their home by an as yet unidentified monster known only as "The Adversary"。 There is also a short story at the end of the volume which serves as a prequel and describes how Bigby was convinced by Snow to join the others even though he was a dangerous outcast。 。。。more

3。75 out of 5I always find it quite hard to review books， especially when it comes to comics because there's not that much to say。 Fables was definitely quite a high level comic， I loved the illustrations and the way it gripped me from the beginning。 The language was definitely very sophisticated。As someone who loves fairytale retellings and the show 'Once upon a time' this topic very much interests me so my review might be slightly biased， but the comic was definitely a good way to spend my fre 3。75 out of 5I always find it quite hard to review books， especially when it comes to comics because there's not that much to say。 Fables was definitely quite a high level comic， I loved the illustrations and the way it gripped me from the beginning。 The language was definitely very sophisticated。As someone who loves fairytale retellings and the show 'Once upon a time' this topic very much interests me so my review might be slightly biased， but the comic was definitely a good way to spend my free time。 。。。more

Not wanting to buy another long comic series is no excuse when you have a local friendly library like Rapid City’s！ It might be a bit to early to say this is “the other Sandman”， but it starts strong， and it is miles ahead of Grimm’s Fairy Tales。
