Summary

Layla just wants to fit in at school and go on a date with Zayne, whom she's crushed on since forever。 Trouble is, Zayne treats Layla like a sister--and Layla is a half demon, half gargoyle with abilities no one else possesses。 And even though Zayne is a Warden, part of the race of gargoyles tasked with keeping humanity safe, Layla's kiss will kill anything with a soul--including him。

Then she meets Roth--a demon who claims to know her secrets。 Though Layla knows she should stay away, it's tough when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue。 Trusting Roth could ruin her chances with Zayne, but as Layla discovers she's the reason for a violent demon uprising, kissing the enemy suddenly pales in comparison to the looming end of the world。

Roth & Layla 😭😭Roth is the true hero of this story!!! I freaking love him so much。 People complain about the love triangle but I wouldn’t even call it that。 Yeah she liked Zayne, but then Roth happened and she, like me, was team Roth。 The end truly hurt my soul😭 I can’t wait to read the rest of the series。

A funny quick read。 I don’t normally like books set in highschool and this is a good example of why, it felt a bit juvenile。 Also I was so over Zayne in a second, he was annoying and smelled of your typical older brother-type stand in who’s really in love tripe。 Ick。 Layla is way too willing to accept the wardens and especially Abbott brainwashing her and acting like they own her too。 That being said the one thing JLA does well is write male main characters who are sarcastic, saucy, and hilariou A funny quick read。 I don’t normally like books set in highschool and this is a good example of why, it felt a bit juvenile。 Also I was so over Zayne in a second, he was annoying and smelled of your typical older brother-type stand in who’s really in love tripe。 Ick。 Layla is way too willing to accept the wardens and especially Abbott brainwashing her and acting like they own her too。 That being said the one thing JLA does well is write male main characters who are sarcastic, saucy, and hilarious。 I read and will keep reading for Roth and Roth alone。 It’s pretty obvious though that JLA is a major Supernatural fan, the demon hunting, the impala, the show was even mentioned。 I liked it though。 。。。more

Every once in a while I want to read a guilty pleasures book so I grabbed White Hot Kiss when it showed up as an Amazon Prime choice。 It's full of YA tropes: the heroine girl who's never had a boyfriend, the two rivals who fight over her (one 'good', one 'bad'), the apocalypse, etc。 At the same time, Ms。 Armentrout manages to bring some fresh ideas that kept me interested despite the many plot holes。I really liked her Blood and Ash series (I have the 3rd book on preorder), so I took a chance on Every once in a while I want to read a guilty pleasures book so I grabbed White Hot Kiss when it showed up as an Amazon Prime choice。 It's full of YA tropes: the heroine girl who's never had a boyfriend, the two rivals who fight over her (one 'good', one 'bad'), the apocalypse, etc。 At the same time, Ms。 Armentrout manages to bring some fresh ideas that kept me interested despite the many plot holes。I really liked her Blood and Ash series (I have the 3rd book on preorder), so I took a chance on this paranormal。 The gargoyle idea, or the Wardens, never became fully developed; people know about them but not what they do? I did like the demons and how Roth explains that they're not all bad despite the Wardens wiping them out on a nightly basis。 There were some good moments but nothing especially startling or new, although I liked the tattoos being familiars idea。 。。。more

3。5 ⭐️Okay so this book came out in 2014。I need to be mindful that first of all JLA’s writing has gotten exponentially better。 I also really enjoyed this book and obviously flew three the end。 But some parts were corny and cringey。 Did I keep reading yes。 I just acted like I didn’t read those parts。 This book didn’t feel mature it just felt like teenage me would love it。 Either way super entertaining。 Roth is my dude。 Love him。 Layla is ehhh。。。she’s so speshuuuul but also a woe is me type of gir 3。5 ⭐️Okay so this book came out in 2014。I need to be mindful that first of all JLA’s writing has gotten exponentially better。 I also really enjoyed this book and obviously flew three the end。 But some parts were corny and cringey。 Did I keep reading yes。 I just acted like I didn’t read those parts。 This book didn’t feel mature it just felt like teenage me would love it。 Either way super entertaining。 Roth is my dude。 Love him。 Layla is ehhh。。。she’s so speshuuuul but also a woe is me type of girl and I’m usually in support more of strong female characters。 I didn’t find anything particularly interesting about Zayne besides the fact that he’s a gargoyle。。。Warden。 So yeah I will continue reading this and hope that the books get better (corniness left out)。 。。。more

Interesting story and love triangleI really liked this story and the characters。 I will be getting the next book。。。 My only complaint is that some of the dialogue had me saying, "Who the heck would actually say that in real life?" Other than that, I liked everything else。 Interesting story and love triangleI really liked this story and the characters。 I will be getting the next book。。。 My only complaint is that some of the dialogue had me saying, "Who the heck would actually say that in real life?" The utter perfection that is Jennifer L。 Armentrout never ceases to excite and amaze me! This book honestly had me in a moral quandary, "Can you have two book boyfriends, from the same book?" I know *big gasp*, but for anyone who has read this will know, one simply cannot choose between the deliciously sinful aura of Roth or Zayne's sexy af boy next door appeal。 For all the ladies out there picking sides, in the immortal words of Taylor Swift- Two is better than one。 Layla is a half warden, half The utter perfection that is Jennifer L。 Armentrout never ceases to excite and amaze me! Zayne has only ever loved one girl- Layla and to see her sideline him crushes a little part of my soul。 Being a warden/gargoyle and the only son of the clan's ruler means his destiny is already mapped out and he cannot take chances with Layla for fear of losing more than his heart, but his very soul。 Roth is a mysteriously dangerous agent of hell sent to protect Layla at all costs。 He is my favorite character only because Guns N' Roses-Paradise City is one of my absolute favorite songs and he is constantly humming it。 Aside from his obvious physique, there is a surprising depth to his personality and a yearning for the chance to live。 There is bravado in being bad and Roth is unapologetically himself。 I relished his ability to portray casual indifference while still making me feel like he cared and is a good person underneath。 The only thing better than the characters are the animals, you read me right, there's a lovable snack named Bambi who gets hangry (totally relatable), cute but viciously cuddly demon cats, and a dragon that we have yet to see。 I mean, how does she make animals interesting among these titans of characters? White Hot Kiss covers all my must-have book bases:-Killer plotline-Interesting and engaging supernaturals-Forbidden love triangle -Irresistible characters -Action and adventure- Pure comedic gold with epic one-liners- Appropriately aged sarcasm that I understand Audiobook review: Saskia Maarlevald has such a uniquely husky voice that toes the line between male and female characters perfectly。 I loved her narration and the versatility of her voice that truly added to my enjoyment of the overall story。 。。。more

2 stars because by the end of this book I did become interested and invested in the story。 But this was super cringey and hard to get through in the beginning。 Although I did like Roth, I hated all of the other characters lol。I doubt I will pick up the rest of this series。 I just think JLA is not an author for me。

I expected this to be really cheesy but it turned out to be a pretty great read。 At first, I did not feel much for the main characters but when the plot started to move on and especially when Layla got more proactive instead of letting all the men around her decide everything she does, it got better。 The fantasy was more elaborate than I thought it would be from the beginning, and since I know some of the lore around demons and satan, it was really fun to read about the details of how things wor I expected this to be really cheesy but it turned out to be a pretty great read。 At first, I did not feel much for the main characters but when the plot started to move on and especially when Layla got more proactive instead of letting all the men around her decide everything she does, it got better。 The fantasy was more elaborate than I thought it would be from the beginning, and since I know some of the lore around demons and satan, it was really fun to read about the details of how things worked in hell。 The action scenes were fun to read, and I was really rooting for my favourite couple to end up together, so I will be reading the other books in this series soon to find out how the story continues。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I'm a huge JLA fan, so anything she writes instantly becomes a favorite of mine。 I had a harder time catching on to this world (could be because I was multi-tasking during the first couple chapters) and a few of the biblical descriptions mid-book had me re-reading them for better understanding。 I don't love the MC as much as I do other JLA characters, but I still felt a connection and was interested in her backstory。 But as for Roth。。。yeah, JLA knows how to write her tall, dark and handsome men I'm a huge JLA fan, so anything she writes instantly becomes a favorite of mine。 I had a harder time catching on to this world (could be because I was multi-tasking during the first couple chapters) and a few of the biblical descriptions mid-book had me re-reading them for better understanding。 I don't love the MC as much as I do other JLA characters, but I still felt a connection and was interested in her backstory。 But as for Roth。。。yeah, JLA knows how to write her tall, dark and handsome men ;) His character is strong and funny, but the vulnerability is the real clencher with Roth。 His story is actually really heartbreaking and *spoiler* I nearly cried when he was explaining that he's just another version of the prince。 The dialogue is ridiculously funny (more so Roth, b/c Layla was pretty dull)。 And of course his sacrifice at the end was traumatic。 Hoping my work day ends soon so I can start the 2nd book。 Anyway, I stayed up until 2am on a worknight, so clearly it was a good book。 。。。more
