Summary

The New York Times bestselling series continues with a thrilling revelation -- brand-new tribes of dragons!

Some secrets are deadly。It's no secret that Sundew wants to destroy the HiveWings。 It's her life's mission to exact revenge on the tribe that tried to wipe out the LeafWings and ripped every tree from the surface of Pantala。Every tree, that is, except the wild and dangerous Poison Jungle, where the surviving LeafWings have been hiding since the war。 Hiding, plotting, and waiting for a dragon like Sundew, who is uniquely qualified to bring down the Hives。There are dark secrets in the jungle, though -- some that Sundew is keeping, and some that she's only just beginning to discover。 And now that a new war is upon them, Sundew and her friends must unearth the oldest secret in the jungle -- even if what they find has the power to destroy them all。

That seemed like a quicker read than most, without a ton happening。 However, bravo for nonchalantly introducing LGBTQ characters。 Still a fun read。

I love how the main character and her friends go on a adventure through a poison jungle。 And that Sundew doesn't care about what other dragons think。 I love how the main character and her friends go on a adventure through a poison jungle。 And that Sundew doesn't care about what other dragons think。 。。。more

I got it when it came out。 At the time, i was roughly 11 years old, and I frankly had no problems with the gay dragons! I actually thought it was amazing that Tui was being so inclusive。My thoughts when I first read the book are a bit different than they are now。 As I said, i was happy that Sundew and Willow are lesbians。 However, I come from a Christian community and I was a bit uncomfortable with the homosexual aspects。 The writing is wonderful。 There are so many details about the jungle and the settings, and the plot twist was actually good。Looking back on the book now, I do feel that Sundew and Willow’s relationship was a bit forced and honestly, a bit too physical for a children’s book。 I still love it, but there are certain aspects that I feel could’ve been written differently。 There are many major characters being overlooked and ignored, and minor subplots being focused on unnecessarily。I have no idea why everyone is getting so riled up about Sundew’s anger issues。 I can completely relate to her, and totally felt her journey in controlling her temper。I would rate The Poison Jungle 5 stars, but I had to take one star off for the previously mentioned reasons。 Sorry Tui! I still love all of these books。This book not only helped me find ways to cope with my own anger issues and helped me explore my sexuality, and I will forever be grateful。 。。。more

It's been a little while since reading this book, but I really liked it。And one thing I'd like to say is that all the homophobic reviews are so stupid。 I got to the part where it revealed Sundew was gay while I was at school。 Aka, middle/elementary school。 And guess what? I was so excited to see a lesbian character in one of my favourite series。 I already knew I liked the same gender at the time。If your excuse for not liking LGBTQ representation in this book is that "it'll confuse the kids!", yo It's been a little while since reading this book, but I really liked it。And one thing I'd like to say is that all the homophobic reviews are so stupid。 I got to the part where it revealed Sundew was gay while I was at school。 Aka, middle/elementary school。 And guess what? I was so excited to see a lesbian character in one of my favourite series。 I already knew I liked the same gender at the time。If your excuse for not liking LGBTQ representation in this book is that "it'll confuse the kids!", you are sorely mistaken。 If your child gets confused about two girls dating, you did an awful job raising or explaining to them。 If it's "LGBTQ is inappropriate to put in middle-grade books!" Have you even read the series? It features (view spoiler)[murder, death, blood, dungeons, gladiator arenas, a character's face being half burned, war, violence, injuries, Peril's reign as Scarlet's champion, abuse, manipulation, abductions, going insane, mind control, evil magic, disembowelment, Burn's weirdling collection, assassins, arson, revenge, explosions, attempted murder, various other war crimes, heterosexual relationships (including a love triangle), stereotyping other tribes, fighting to the death to appoint a new queen, scheming/plotting, dragon-eating plants, poisons, the dangerous creatures that Sundew carries around in her bags, and a lot of things on this list happening at a school。 (hide spoiler)] But no, of course two girls liking each other is what pushes this series over the edge。 Because that makes complete sense。And if your excuse is "it's not natural!", take one look at the book you're reading。 Talking dragons with monarchies? That doesn't sound very natural to me either, but none of you are complaining about that。 Not only that, but homosexuality is completely natural。 Take another look at animals like birds, bottlenose dolphins, bonobos, and especially macaques。 Not only is two girls natural, it's literally the norm。 But y'know what doesn't occur in animals? That's right, homophobia。 Also, you're using a device to write up your little bigoted Goodreads reviews aren't you? Since when was technology natural?Anyways, I loved this book and it gets 5 stars from me。 I loved the plot, and I especially loved the characters (Sundew and Cricket being my favourites)。 There's little better than getting a new Wings of Fire book when it comes out。 。。。more

Unfortunately my least favorite in the series because so much of the book was about the romantic relationship between two girl dragons。 🙄 Since it’s a kids book I wish there was more of the action adventure of previous books and less of the romance novel。

Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh。 This book is definitely one of my favorites in the series。 I just finished reading the whole series for the 4th time, and I just wanted to say that Sundew is my favorite character in Pantala。 Well, I’ve all of them, so I guess that is a lie, but I do love her very much。 And her love for Willow is just the cutest thing I have ever heard。 I hope everyone enjoyed this book as much as I did。

I've been reading this series to the kids during the pandemic。 This one came back and saved the storyline a bit - Blue's story felt so flat and dull - kind of like his character。 Cricket's story didn't really move me much either - I'm not certain why。 I surprisingly loved the books on the other continent。 But these Pantala dragons' story arcs/personalities and evolutions didn't happen for me。 However, I did feel a little more character evolution with Sundew。 We laughed so much in the books 1-10。 I've been reading this series to the kids during the pandemic。 This one came back and saved the storyline a bit - Blue's story felt so flat and dull - kind of like his character。 Cricket's story didn't really move me much either - I'm not certain why。 I surprisingly loved the books on the other continent。 But these Pantala dragons' story arcs/personalities and evolutions didn't happen for me。 However, I did feel a little more character evolution with Sundew。 We laughed so much in the books 1-10。 Funny characters and storylines。 These books - I just don't find us laughing or feeling riveted to find out what happens next。 I will say I loved the jungle and the plant speak powers and how they had to reckon with the mistakes of the past。 So this one brings it a bit back though I wish Willow had more of a backbone and that Tsunami sounded more like herself。 I didn't even recognize her in this story which was a shame because I would've loved to see her interact in the way her personality should have。 。。。more

The first third of The Poison Jungle is mainly introducing the reader to the setting and important characters。 Although there's not a lot of action there, it is interesting enough。 The poison jungle itself is the antithesis of Pyrrhia's rainforest。 It is filled with carnivorous, poisonous, or otherwise dangerous plants, all scaled up to be a threat to dragons。 There are a couple of scenes where the characters almost get eaten。 Some might find them to be filler, but I don't think the jungle would The first third of The Poison Jungle is mainly introducing the reader to the setting and important characters。 Although there's not a lot of action there, it is interesting enough。 The poison jungle itself is the antithesis of Pyrrhia's rainforest。 It is filled with carnivorous, poisonous, or otherwise dangerous plants, all scaled up to be a threat to dragons。 There are a couple of scenes where the characters almost get eaten。 Some might find them to be filler, but I don't think the jungle would have felt as dangerous without them。The ability of leafspeak is cool, and the plants are always sinisterly muttering about their hunger。Although Sundew discovers a lot more about Queen Wasp's mind control and the plant behind it, this doesn't feel like a complete book, which is the main reason for this not being five stars。 It feels like the whole thing is setting up for book 14 by introducing characters and explaining threats。 It also ends on kind of a cliff hanger。 。。。more

In reading the reviews, I have things to say。 This will have spoilers。This book wasn’t my favorite, but seeing a character who is angry a lot is gratifying to me because I have struggled with anger issues as a kid and, like Sundew, I have someone who makes me better and helps me with that。 I’m also LGBT。 I agree that some of it was repetitive, but Sundew has been told the same things all her life so she’s going to think about those things a lot。 And when you’re in a relationship with someone for In reading the reviews, I have things to say。 This will have spoilers。This book wasn’t my favorite, but seeing a character who is angry a lot is gratifying to me because I have struggled with anger issues as a kid and, like Sundew, I have someone who makes me better and helps me with that。 I’m also LGBT。 I agree that some of it was repetitive, but Sundew has been told the same things all her life so she’s going to think about those things a lot。 And when you’re in a relationship with someone for two years, you’re going to be touchy with them and think about them a bunch。 Maybe having a character hate their mom in a middle-grade book wasn’t the best move, but honestly, having Sundew love her mom makes no sense for her character。 Sundew and Willow’s relationship is going to be a lot different than other books because these characters have been together for two years, where all the other relationships are at the end of their books or series and we don’t see a lot of them as a relationship, we just seem them when they’re crushing on each other。 To those of you saying it was annoying that she was constantly thinking about Willow, that’s because Willow was physically with her for most of the book and she missed her a lot in the beginning of the book。 Someone said “can’t we just have one character that isn’t mooning over someone” or something to that effect。 And yea, we could。 But that doesn’t mean it has to be Sundew。 Can’t we just have a gay character? Who knows, maybe our next protagonist will be single。Willow really isn’t that flat。 We haven’t had 3 books with her like we have any of these other characters, so we don’t know that much of her。 But she does show growth and depth。 She is easy going and kind, not bubbly like Sunny, but kind in her own right with a degree of innocence。 She’s empathetic and doesn’t see the use in anger, making her a great foil to Sundew。 And by the end of the book she is *angry* which is something we haven’t seen, and is what she was against this whole time。 She’s logical, she thinks through which emotions are useful。 Even when angry, she can stop and think through the best actions and for that I love her。 I also adore how unafraid she is to love, and she drags that love out of Sundew and brings out the best in her girlfriend。 The ages don’t really bother me as I believe Willow is only maybe a year older than her, although her age isn’t confirmed。 And if your kid is uncomfortable with gay dragons or just gay characters in general, maybe you should educate them about how being gay is okay。 A lot of LGBT kids, especially tweens, know they’re not exactly straight when they’re that age (my wording is not the best here) and having a character or four to relate to could be very important to them。 Really, it’s not a big deal。 It’s a relationship between two consenting beings of the same species。 It’s not like Willow came out of nowhere either, she was hinted at from some of Sundews dialogue in the other books。Also, to the science fan who said they laughed at gay dragons because science, I guess? Then you clearly don’t know that much。 Lots of animals are naturally gay。 I’ve seen gay snakes, dogs, cats, anything。 And the Leafwings are about to go into a war。 Belladonna and the rest of the PoisonWings seeing her being affectionate with Willow was not at the front of their minds, and Belladonna and Sundew haven’t exactly had the chance to have a conversation about that。The poison jungle has adapted over the years to eat dragons, of course there will be carnivorous plants。 Granted, spice it up with some monkeys or something and it’d be better, but that isn’t that bad。 And the evil plant isn’t that bad of a plot twist。 It make sense in the universe and is genuinely terrifying, in my opinion。Sundew did grow in this book, but having a look in her mind did sorta peel back some layers and things that I loved about her。 It did show light on how she hides a lot of herself away from other people, which we never would have known if she wasn’t our main character for this book。 It wasn't bad and nothing can be perfect, just wasn’t my favorite。 There were some really awesome moments for her, although I wished we could have seen her step up to her mom outright。 I didn’t exactly feel any of the emotions she was feeling, except maybe when Willow was captured by the evil plant。 Having shown her previous hate of tsetse flies would have been better foreshadowing, but I found it ironic every time the plant sundews showed up。 The passive aggressiveness when Belladonna comes to the Sapwing village is amazing though。 。。。more

Guess the previous book was just a hiccup, because this one absolutely blew me away。 I know that most of that is thanks to the journey through the poison jungle。 All the different obstacles and threats they had to get through were good and I was captivated the whole time。 Also, the thoughts of the trees had a nice mix of ethereal and creepy。 If "The Happening" had these kind of plants, we would've had an actual horror movie。Sundew wasn't as bad a POV as I was fearing。 It was still hard to fully Guess the previous book was just a hiccup, because this one absolutely blew me away。 I know that most of that is thanks to the journey through the poison jungle。 All the different obstacles and threats they had to get through were good and I was captivated the whole time。 Also, the thoughts of the trees had a nice mix of ethereal and creepy。 If "The Happening" had these kind of plants, we would've had an actual horror movie。Sundew wasn't as bad a POV as I was fearing。 It was still hard to fully get behind her character because it took so long for her to show any sort of empathy to certain characters。 Even her so-called "true love" she insults for a large majority of the book by calling her part of the tribe SapWings。 Still, it took her way too long to realize that maybe all the HiveWings aren't to blame for what's been happening to them and maybe she doesn't want to kill them all。I think maybe Bumblebee's character was a weak point in the book。 I don't remember why they brought her along, and she didn't really contribute much。 There still isn't an explanation as to why animus magic is no longer working, and now it seems like there's another mystery as to where these dragons initially came from。 The impression this book gives is that they weren't natives of this continent, and it also made a reference to RainWings, maybe?I'm glad that I got through all of these books quickly so I can be ready for the latest book when it drops。 I can't wait to see what happens next and how they deal with this threat! It's probably one of the creepier and more awesome threats the series has had so far。 。。。more

This is the worst book I have ever read and the biggest disappointment I have ever witnessed。I loved the series so much but they slowly started going downhill with the new books and now it's just trash。 Really? You had to make Sundew lesbian? Just why? Why would you ruin the series for something that doesn't even make sense? Why would a dragon be lesbian?
