Summary

Anne Frank's extraordinary diary, written in the Amsterdam attic where she and her family hid from the Nazis for two years, has become a world classic and a timeless testament to the human spirit。 Now, in a new edition enriched by many passages originally withheld by her father, we meet an Anne more real, more human, and more vital than ever。 Here she is first and foremost a teenage girl—stubbornly honest, touchingly vulnerable, in love with life。 She imparts her deeply secret world of soul-searching and hungering for affection, rebellious clashes with her mother, romance and newly discovered sexuality, and wry, candid observations of her companions。 Facing hunger, fear of discovery and death, and the petty frustrations of such confined quarters, Anne writes with adult wisdom and views beyond her years。 Her story is that of every teenager, lived out in conditions few teenagers have ever known。

Genre : biography Grade: 5th to 7th grade This book could be difficult to read for a younger child because they wouldn’t be able to grasp everything in this book。 However it is a great read for older students and a great story to learn about。

I finished this yesterday and cried my eyes out at the point when it ended, I can only imagine the fear that the occupants of the Secret Annex felt upon their capture。 Anne's diary captures the intimate details of their day-to-day life for 761 days in the Secret Annex, a hideaway above a factory in central Amsterdam。What can I say about this that hasn't already been said? This was brilliant! I mean it's an incredible story and I love the whole diary thing, because unlike if someone had written a fictional diary and could vaguely plot things in advance with a real diary things can come out of nowhere, opinions and people can change wildly (as they do in real life)。Reading it you do get the feeling that (even stripping away the typical adolescent "nobody understands me and everybody picks on me" thing) the adults dealt with being trapped in that building for 2 year This was brilliant! This book, no, this beautiful girls story is a must read。 I've read many books about ww2, but this one hit me different。 None of us, should forget the story of the jewish people and the horrors they went through。 We must remember that we are brothers and sisters in this crazy world, and the ability to see each other like we see ourselves is not a burden but a privilege。 Anne wanted to make a difference and she did。 This book, no, this beautiful girls story is a must read。 I've read many books about ww2, but this one hit me different。 None of us, should forget the story of the jewish people and the horrors they went through。 We must remember that we are brothers and sisters in this crazy world, and the ability to see each other like we see ourselves is not a burden but a privilege。 Anne wanted to make a difference and she did。 。。。more

Hard to give a book like this a rating。 The reason I chose 5 stars is because I’d really recommend people to read it。 At first I was a bit hesitant if reading a 14 year old girl’s writing would be as immersing; her, however, I was curious to get to know。 At the end, I’ve bookmarked a few dozen of passages and pages that really spoke to me。 Also, a couple of tears flowed, but that’s only to be expected from a story like hers。 Definitely has shifted the way I see things a bit and set everything in Hard to give a book like this a rating。 The reason I chose 5 stars is because I’d really recommend people to read it。 At first I was a bit hesitant if reading a 14 year old girl’s writing would be as immersing; her, however, I was curious to get to know。 At the end, I’ve bookmarked a few dozen of passages and pages that really spoke to me。 Also, a couple of tears flowed, but that’s only to be expected from a story like hers。 Definitely has shifted the way I see things a bit and set everything in perspective。 I couldn’t help but find little similarities in the way she felt her freedom was taken away while living in the Annexe, though our current situation is far, far, far from the same。 Can’t help but feel like Anne has settled in a little room in my heart and she’s more than welcome to stay。 。。。more

Not the wise part, but the mood swings, the crush and feeling so powerfully angry with nowhere to release it。I am amazed at her courage and her perseverance。 I am uplifted by her words, so positive despite everything。 And I am heart broken that this wonderful young woman was robbed of her future。 Noone knows who tipped off the SS to their hiding place but I am absolutely furious about it。I'm furious about the state of the world she had to live in, the ignorance that lead to so many good people suffering and dying。 And yet this young woman。。。 She is a shining star in a dark night sky。 I know her words will stay with me。 If every person had even half the strength of character she did, the world would be a much better place。 。。。more
