Summary

Laura Dean, the most popular girl in high school, was Frederica Riley's dream girl: charming, confident, and SO cute。 There's just one problem: Laura Dean is maybe not the greatest girlfriend。

Reeling from her latest break up, Freddy's best friend, Doodle, introduces her to the Seek-Her, a mysterious medium, who leaves Freddy some cryptic parting words: break up with her。 But Laura Dean keeps coming back, and as their relationship spirals further out of her control, Freddy has to wonder if it's really Laura Dean that's the problem。 Maybe it's Freddy, who is rapidly losing her friends, including Doodle, who needs her now more than ever。 Fortunately for Freddy, there are new friends, and the insight of advice columnists like Anna Vice to help her through being a teenager in love。

Mariko Tamaki and Rosemary Valero-O’Connell bring to life a sweet and spirited tale of young love that asks us to consider what happens when we ditch the toxic relationships we crave to embrace the healthy ones we need。

It feels weird to call something cute when a story is dealing with heartbreak, (view spoiler)[ abuse, and abortion (hide spoiler)]。 Maybe it's because of the use of black and white with pops of a light pink。 Maybe it was anthropomorphizing moments with her stuffed animals。 But there was something about it where I couldn't get fully invested and take on Freddy's feelings about everything so I kept thinking back to the aesthetics。 I think it was because I kept having trouble with transitions that It feels weird to call something cute when a story is dealing with heartbreak, (view spoiler)[ abuse, and abortion (hide spoiler)]。 Maybe it's because of the use of black and white with pops of a light pink。 Maybe it was anthropomorphizing moments with her stuffed animals。 But there was something about it where I couldn't get fully invested and take on Freddy's feelings about everything so I kept thinking back to the aesthetics。 I think it was because I kept having trouble with transitions that kept pulling me out of the story and also just the characterization of everyone。 There was a large amount of interesting characters, and it felt like an Avengers movie where I had to keep track of so many moving parts and peoples, that I often got lost in the shuffle of what was going on and who I should be paying attention to。 I didn't even realize I was supposed to be paying attention to Doodle, or her and Freddy were supposed to be best friends, until 75% of the way through。 Overall I really enjoyed the message about loving someone - how it doesn't make you more in love to deal with bad behavior。 With Laura Dean's character I felt like the mystery and the characterization worked best。 It was less about Laura Dean's actions and traits and more about how Freddy felt about it all。 I especially loved when Freddy was trying to be nonchalant and emailing the advice column about polyamory while she was actually very hurt and trying to hide it。 I am sticking with a four star rating because I liked the message overall and found it relatable, but I also am still confused by the characterization and transitions。 。。。more

About the signs of toxic relationships and how to get the hell out。The illustrations looked so good, but sometimes confusing。 The story line was sometimes all over the place。

The story was your typical good girl fuckboi love story but with lesbians。 And that's fine because lesbians can be fuckboi's too, they're not all perfect。 Lgbtq+ relationships can be toxic too and they can be horrible people too。Laura Dern is your basic fuckboi and you mentally high five Freddy when she finally breaks up with her。 The story was your typical good girl fuckboi love story but with lesbians。 And that's fine because lesbians can be fuckboi's too, they're not all perfect。 Lgbtq+ relationships can be toxic too and they can be horrible people too。Laura Dern is your basic fuckboi and you mentally high five Freddy when she finally breaks up with her。 。。。more

The art was beautiful。 The message that is giving is fantastic。 What a wonderful piece of advice for everyone。 It’s all about loving yourself and trusting your own feelings to make the right decisions。 Just an absolutely gorgeous book。

This is a beautiful book about coming of age, about the act of love and the emotion love and allthat lies in between。 Absolutely worth picking up if you haven't checked it out already。 This is a beautiful book about coming of age, about the act of love and the emotion love and allthat lies in between。 Absolutely worth picking up if you haven't checked it out already。 。。。more

I really tried to love this but。。。 I was going to give it three stars but the art style is pretty and it’s lesbian and it has good Asian rep so I’m ramping it up to four stars

tried to cover a lot of important topics so the plot was kind of rushed and all over the place, but very inclusive and refreshing。 loved loved loved the art style!

4。25/5 the art and styling of each page was absolutely stunning。 i lived for the pink, black, and white colors when initially i thought it wouldn’t be as amazing without more color。 the story was good I think i just wanted a little more from it and our characters。 i would also die for a spinoff about Vi and Mo or Buddy and Eric tbh。 CW: infidelity, abortion, toxic relationships

Anna Grace

i loved every second of this book。 ive seen some reviews complain about how the story is messy, but i think it flows well and fits the overall story。 its real。 because real stories are messy。 beautiful art and beautiful message。

The books get gradually better through the series。 If you have some great stories like this one, you can publish it on Novel Star, just submit your story to hardy@novelstar。top or joye@novelstar。top

*SPOILER FREE* I really liked this book, the fact that it was a graphic novel made it really easy to read & the whole thing was done in less than 2 hours。 I really like the story & how it discussed the dynamics & troubles with both romantic & platonic relationships。 I loved the diversity in not only the characters but in the types of relationships and relationship dynamics。 It was a good book & i plan on buying myself a physical copy in the future :) Also as a lesbian from Toronto i objectively *SPOILER FREE* I really liked this book, the fact that it was a graphic novel made it really easy to read & the whole thing was done in less than 2 hours。 I really like the story & how it discussed the dynamics & troubles with both romantic & platonic relationships。 I loved the diversity in not only the characters but in the types of relationships and relationship dynamics。 It was a good book & i plan on buying myself a physical copy in the future :) Also as a lesbian from Toronto i objectively really liked this book :Dtw// cheating, teenage pregnancy & abortion, toxic relationships, homophobia & lesbophobia 。。。more

A arte é bonita e a historia é okay mas as vezes tudo parece meio solto (?)

This art is everything to me。 All parts of this story were so vivid in this soft, perfect pink that left a surprising amount of room for mood and tone shifts as Freddy and Laura Dean broke up。。。then got back together。。。then broke up。。。yet the message guiding the story along never falted, and made this story stand out even more。 Wonderful in every aspect, and a new favorite to recommend。

An absolutely stunning graphic novel。 Tamaki tackles a battery of serious issues, relational abuse and teenage pregnancy among them, and still maintains urgency and single-character focus。 I thought this portrayal of lesbian relationship was really refreshing--even in adult books, it's difficult to find authors willing to tackle lesbian and gay abuse in a way that doesn't condemn the characters for being lesbian or gay in the first place。 Tamaki handles the imminent demise of her characters' rel An absolutely stunning graphic novel。 Tamaki tackles a battery of serious issues, relational abuse and teenage pregnancy among them, and still maintains urgency and single-character focus。 I thought this portrayal of lesbian relationship was really refreshing--even in adult books, it's difficult to find authors willing to tackle lesbian and gay abuse in a way that doesn't condemn the characters for being lesbian or gay in the first place。 Tamaki handles the imminent demise of her characters' relationship as yet another inevitability of growing up, and offers her young readers new ways forward, to grow and develop, as the book concludes。 Breaking up isn't the end of the world。 In fact, it can be a good and necessary thing。 And, at times, everyone can be a little selfish about letting go, and entering into new phases of platonic and romantic relationships。 Aesthetically, Tamaki's artwork is very appealing。 The weight of her lines is precise and thin。 Her sense of anatomy, space, and emotional range/expression is great。 There's a good balance of white space and background/character detail。 The limited color scheme (pink, grayscale) works really well to elevate her themes。 And, of course, the cover is a true work of art, impossible to ignore wherever it sits on your bookshelf。 。。。more
