This collection didn't start out so great to me, despite Bill Watterson's artwork - which, btw, totally fits with Bode's character, so I loved it for that。 But a lot of this volume didn't overly make sense to me, some strange choices made it kind of hard to follow。 For example, I didn't really ~get why half the panels in chapter one were drawn by Mr Watterson, that was confusing。 I was uncomfortable (and not in the good way) about the key that turned the white main characters Black, and I'm not This collection didn't start out so great to me, despite Bill Watterson's artwork - which, btw, totally fits with Bode's character, so I loved it for that。 But a lot of this volume didn't overly make sense to me, some strange choices made it kind of hard to follow。 For example, I didn't really ~get why half the panels in chapter one were drawn by Mr Watterson, that was confusing。 I was uncomfortable (and not in the good way) about the key that turned the white main characters Black, and I'm not 100% sure who the army ghost was。 (Though I did like that chapter, I like Rufus。) So I was all set to give this book a lower rating, because although the story was good, I wasn't 100% feeling this。And then I got to chapter five and all sorts of shit went down and it was super exciting and I can't wait to find out what happens next! 。。。more

Absolutely loved the tribute to Bill Watterson in the first issue (Bode and the birds got me emotional), and the story is progressing really well。 Definitely a bloody installation, and the art is growing on me。 Also, I appreciated that Joe Hill was trying to create a meaningful exploration of racism with the Skin Key issue, but overall I thought it just read pretty awkward about a decade after this was first published。

Still great。 I especially loved the little tribute to Calvin & Hobbes。 So much fun discovering all these keys and what they can do。

Original Review at Jaunts & Haunts。4/5This is my least favorite in the series to date, but it was still an amazing journey! In a nutshell, the Locke children continue to fight off Dodge's attacks as he continues his desperate search for the Omega key。As usual, I really enjoyed the main characters。 Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode are great and their frustrations are very relatable as they try to figure out who this dark lady is and balance the normal part of their lives。 I will say, they didn't have as mu Original Review at Jaunts & Haunts。4/5This is my least favorite in the series to date, but it was still an amazing journey! In a nutshell, the Locke children continue to fight off Dodge's attacks as he continues his desperate search for the Omega key。As usual, I really enjoyed the main characters。 Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode are great and their frustrations are very relatable as they try to figure out who this dark lady is and balance the normal part of their lives。 I will say, they didn't have as much depth as certain other volumes。 I also still think their plan to stop Dodge is much too reactionary, but they still had many great moments and there were even some good funnies in there this time, which was refreshing。The artwork was great as usual。 I was a bit confused by the switch from the beginning's more cartoony style to the usual artwork, but it didn't really deter from the experience。 It just felt a bit odd since I don't believe that's been done up to this point。The events that happened in this novel were entertaining with plenty of action scenes。 That being said, I wanted a little bit more。 We get a LOT of action in the month of February in this book's timeline, but it goes over the incidents much too quickly。 I'd like to know the backstory behind each individual attack and really have it more fleshed out。 This series could seriously be longer than it is!At the same time, I really enjoyed the awesome key discoveries。 At this point, there's a diverse number of keys, and anytime a new one is found I get very giddy and excited。 That's what is so great about this series。 It just has that sense of wonder to it。All in all, this may not have been my favorite Locke & Key novel, but it's still got a lot of great action, plot, and tension that'll please any die-hard fan。 Definitely worth a read! 。。。more

I was having a conversation about graphic novels with a mahihoa/work colleague and they mentioned Locke and Key and told me what it was about。 Then I realised I actually had this book on my bookshelf at home。 Where did it come from, I do not know。 But knowing the premise, I read it, and loved it。If the other issues appear on my bookshelf, I will happily read them too!

I continue to be entertained with these。 I have really taken to the graphic novel genre。 I like how the story is also told through the pictures。 I think this is why my son really enjoys graphic novels (these are not really child friendly BTW)。 He is dyslexic but enjoys books and stories and the graphic novel has been great for him。 He still gets the reading in, but the pictures support that AND just add to the story。 It's a different way to tell a story。Anyways, I like this series and love Joe H I continue to be entertained with these。 I have really taken to the graphic novel genre。 I like how the story is also told through the pictures。 I think this is why my son really enjoys graphic novels (these are not really child friendly BTW)。 He is dyslexic but enjoys books and stories and the graphic novel has been great for him。 He still gets the reading in, but the pictures support that AND just add to the story。 It's a different way to tell a story。Anyways, I like this series and love Joe Hill。 。。。more

I am finally getting used to those characters and even start to warm up with those kids。This volume was confusing at first but the finale was great, thus 4 stars for this fourth volume。I am a bit sad, though。 I sympathized too much with the villain, I guess 😐

Why I waited so long to start and finish this series is a mystery to me。 Four volumes in and the thrill of reading this series has quadrapled。

So many darn twists and turns, those who I didn't expect to die were killed, bodies were swapped, and interesting deep discussions were had (namely about race! The timing of Obama's election in this could not be more present)。 So many darn twists and turns, those who I didn't expect to die were killed, bodies were swapped, and interesting deep discussions were had (namely about race! This series is now moving very far away from the TV Series, But it is well worth the read, Both are great and will give you some freaky dreams but the Graphic Novel is so rich with info you will never get from the TV Series。 This is a Good Read This volume I would give a 9 out of 10 but just for some stuff at the beginning, it got better。

Best book yet of the series。 The pacing of each issue is excellent, both on their own and as part of the whole。 Hill and Rodriguez are both in top form。 I loved the shifting art style show the different characters’ perspectives (especially the Calvin & Hobbes tribute for the 6-year-old’s)。 Love the efficiency of telling the stories of some keys in just one panel, each a flashbulb glance at the stories and adventures that are going on in addition to the main story。[Minor spoilers regarding the pa Best book yet of the series。 The pacing of each issue is excellent, both on their own and as part of the whole。 Hill and Rodriguez are both in top form。 I loved the shifting art style show the different characters’ perspectives (especially the Calvin & Hobbes tribute for the 6-year-old’s)。 Love the efficiency of telling the stories of some keys in just one panel, each a flashbulb glance at the stories and adventures that are going on in addition to the main story。[Minor spoilers regarding the pacing of the series ahead ] Plus the antagonist, who has been known to the reader since the beginning, is FINALLY recognized by the heroes。 Good choice, as the suspense had gone far enough and the reveal (and reversal) set up even better suspense。 。。。more

After the big plot movements in the first volume, the last few have been much slower。 This volume goes back to the quick pace and racing plot development。 It's hard to even stop to write instead of jumping into the next volume, as this volume leaves us in a place where I am not sure what to expect next。There are also a lot of interesting art choices in this volume。 The first part starts with a light, Calvin & Hobbes-esque art style that switches to more "realistic" and increasingly violent image After the big plot movements in the first volume, the last few have been much slower。 This volume goes back to the quick pace and racing plot development。 It's hard to even stop to write instead of jumping into the next volume, as this volume leaves us in a place where I am not sure what to expect next。There are also a lot of interesting art choices in this volume。 The first part starts with a light, Calvin & Hobbes-esque art style that switches to more "realistic" and increasingly violent imagery on each page。 It reminded me of something that is done in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and I'm sure other media, but it is particularly cool here。 。。。more
