Summary

When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Lux—only to discover that she was already far more involved in their world than she ever suspected。

Because the Luxen aren’t the only ones with a hidden past。 There’s a gap in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her。 She needs to find out the truth about who she is—and who she was。 But every answer she finds only brings up more questions。

Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all。 He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous…and possibly in love with her。 But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her, or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists。

And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen。 A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point。

An exciting read! This book starts from where The Darkest Star left off。 The relationship between Evie and Luc continues。 With the many twists and turns in the plot the reader is kept wanting to keep reading。 If you want action and drama in a book this book is for you。 I am ready for the next book in the series!

dnf。 got about halfway through the book before I lost interest。 there was a lot going on with the plot and it started getting super confusing once I hit the one-third way through mark。

*re-read* Ah yes the second book is so much better, just like I remembered。 The criticism I had for the last book remains, but at least the action was fun and the reveals are exciting! It’s still a delightful sequel, the continuation of the story makes sense and our characters are still as loveable as they were in all the other books, but man Evie’s character just feels so。。。。 dare I say。。。。 one dimensional? The thing to expect from JLA’s books is that the female protagonists will all be the same-character-different-font idea, but something about Evie is more plain than the others。 She isn’t relatable and loveable, or in unlikeable and annoying, she just, is? I’m hoping she grows a little more into her own in the third book, but only time will tell。 If you’re a fan, you’ll love the book。 Simple as that。 JLA delivers her signature YA feel with fun characters and interesting ideas per usual。 My critiques are nitpicky and coming from my age and reading experience。 But if you’re looking to escape into a fun alien world where you don’t have to think, you’re in for a great adventure with TONS of books。 。。。more

The Highest Betrayal! This series was spellbinding。 Disturbing in a way that the control of our lives could be based on lies and control。 This Dystopian book led us to all the dark places a human could go to or fear。Luv and Evie。 Star crossed lovers。 They thought。 Now what will their futures hold when they know now。 After all the deaths, subterfuge and betrayals will there ever be a safe place for them in this damaged world?

I had a hard time getting to the 300 page mark, so as you guessed, I did not finish this one。Maybe I'll pick it up again some other time but it was just too hard to continue reading。First off, about the first 1/3 of the book is complete re-cap of the first book in the series, The Darkest Star。 That was waaaaay too much re-cap! Secondly, it's not until about HALF WAY through the book that any kind of real action takes place, and by that time I don't know, I just felt meh about it。 And thirdly, om I had a hard time getting to the 300 page mark, so as you guessed, I did not finish this one。Maybe I'll pick it up again some other time but it was just too hard to continue reading。First off, about the first 1/3 of the book is complete re-cap of the first book in the series, The Darkest Star。 That was waaaaay too much re-cap! With the never ending "I'm not Evie, but I'm not Nadia, either。。。" How long is she going to harp on and on about this!? The writing style is just not for me, either。 Phrases like "I totally freaking killed blah blah" or "Murdery Dude" are just too teen-ish for my liking。 Just felt "too cool for school" and I really don't care for that type of writing。 I'm not sure if all her novels are written as such? but I just had enough in this series with how the protagonist (mainly) spoke。 Also, the use of Peaches is just OVERKILL! Especially when he calls her that nickname when something is SERIOUS! Use her freaking name if it's a serious time! 。。。more

Honestly, to me, this book was as good as the first one and I loved every page of it。 I don’t how or why, but weirdly, JLA’s spin-off are often better than the original series, at least for me。 Don’t get me wrong, I loved Lux, but Origin is already so good and it feels a little fresher than Lux, in terms of tropes。 Luc is such an amazing character, I did not imagine him to be this great when he first appeared in Lux and I love him so much! 。。。more

This book was incredible。 I absolutely loved the way the story developed in this book, they kept the mystery going with lots of smaller plot twists。 This book was fast past and kept me on the edge of my seat。

The second book is where the action licks in properly, off course!More twists, higher stakes, bigger reveals, higher emotions, more sexy times! One thing about Evie so far in the series is that she's quite a reactive rather than a proactive character - she's been hopelessly underpowered and kept ignorant compared to those around her, but now the table's been set for Evie to be a major player in her own story, and I can't wait to see her do it!

There's not comparing the two or expecting her to do something because that's what Nadia would've done。I wanted to see more characters from earlier Lux books and we did。 I'm so glad we got to see Katy, Daemon, Dee, Dawson and even Lore, who I forgot until they mentioned his brother。 I wish we had seen Hunter and Serena too but maybe in the next book? I don't really like Grayson in this book but hopefully he will get better now that he knows who Evie really is。 He's just been protective of Luc even if he know he's capable of handling himself。All in all The Burning Shadow got me to like Evie and Luc's romance more and I wish I had the third book in my hands already but I couldn't give it full five stars since quite few 'reveals' were predictable to me。 。。。more
