Summary

This was so good!! I loved this one!!! I didn't *quite* love it as much as Chain of Gold, but I still absolutely loved it! Once I actually started reading it, I pretty much read it in two days。 It was SO addicting! I honestly don't know where to start。 This book completely wrecked me, ESPECIALLY that ending!! (view spoiler)[ I was SO MAD at the ending, I couldn't even read the last chapter until a day later。 It's the most angry I've EVER been at a book。 Cassie is CRUEL to end a book like that!! I can't believe we have to wait a WHOLE YEAR for the next book!!! I just want to throttle all three of them - James, Cordelia, and Matthew - not as much as I did a couple days ago, but still。 James couldn't have just worded things a little differently, though I'm not as mad with him bc I'm SO happy the bracelet is FINALLY off。 When that happened I legit sang of happiness and glee。 I'm upset with Cordelia for assuming things before seeing the whole picture。 I'm SO mad at Matthew。 I was kinda upset at him throughout the whole book bc of his crush on Cordelia。 I know it's not his fault but still。 I'm so mad at him for the ending。 JUST TRUST YOUR PARABATAI!! WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THAT?! He thinks the worst of James in that moment and trusts Cordelia over literally his parabatai, like how is that a thing。 I'm so mad at him for not having faith in James。 Now that the anger has died down, and I've actually read the last chapter, I'm more sad than anything else。 I'm so sad for James, who has finally realized how oblivious he's been for YEARS, yet can't explain himself to the people he loves most, who happen to think he's a dick at this moment。 I feel so bad for him。 Cassie did an amazing job of portraying his absolute despair in that moment。 I truly felt for him so much。 I still do。 Magnus's reassuring words made me feel a LOT better about the situation, though。 I know James and Cordelia are going to end up together, and this is just a setback, but it still hurts! Magnus did reassure me though so that's good。 AND Magnus said the same thing about Matthew that I did - about not being able to save people who don't want to be saved - and in that moment I have never been happier haha。 Also Cordelia completely friend-zoning Matthew made me feel so much better。 Sorry Matthew, but she's only got eyes for James。 I didn't really like Matthew in this book, which I don't like, but he just kept getting in the middle of my ship and I will NOT stand for that! I get that he's been through a lot, and he needs help and forgiveness, but it's hard to care about someone who doesn't want to help themselves。 He went from one of my favorite characters to one of my least favorite and it's honestly sad。 Speaking of ships, let's talk about all the ships in this book。 The absolute top tier ship - Jordelia - was perfection in this book。 I LOVED all their cute married moments!! The sexual tension was excellent, but it was mean of Cassie to tease us so much!! I FULLY expect an excellent payoff in Chain of Thorns next year。 I also loved how many cute domestic moments happened。 I loved hearing Cordelia and James talk about how much they just liked spending time with the other person alone, and telling them everything。 It made my heart so happy - those moments were so pure and adorable。 They have the perfect combination of cuteness and sexual tension。 I'm so excited to figure out what's in the globe necklace! I loved their love of travel, it was so cute。 It was the best kind of frustration to see how much James loved Cordelia, but not realizing it!! This book really made me more attached to James。 He's definitely my favorite character in the series。 I just love him so much。 I relate to him, but he's also the best husband (well, second-best - Will obviously takes first place here)。 He's so considerate and caring, but also funny and witty。 It also doesn't help that he loves reading haha。 Him and Cordelia complement each other so well。 It was SO frustrating TO NO END reading about how James kept wanting to take the bracelet off, but THEN DIDN'T BC OF THE STUPID MAGIC IN IT!!! We came SO close to the bracelet coming off so many times it drove me INSANE。 I'm so excited to see more of the real James in Chain of Thorns now that the bracelet is off。 It's also going to be SO glorious to see James and Cordelia explaining everything to each other, and realizing how in love they both are。 It's going to be AMAZING I'M S O E X C I T E D!!!! For Cordelia, I don't necessarily blame her, but it was kinda frustrating seeing her be so in denial about James's feelings。 Like, girl I relate, but also are you blind?! Another ship I loved was Thomas and Alastair。 They didn't have a lot of moments together, but the one scene they did have was GLORIOUS。 Again, they complement each other so well, and are so cute together。 Alastair is becoming one of my favorite characters in the series。 His redemption arc is so beautiful already。 It was so moving seeing him try to apologize to everyone he's wronged。 His scenes with James, and him talking about James, were some of my favorites。 I loved James giving him grace and forgiveness。 I'm so excited to see more of Alastair in the next book。 If only Matthew would just forgive him!! Another unexpected dynamic I loved was Christopher and Grace。 I TOTALLY did not expect to like Grace at all, but her and Christopher were SO cute together! Christopher is exactly the type of man Grace needs to make her believe in love - sweet, gentle, non-arrogant。 I loved them bonding over science。 I definitely need to see more of them in Chain of Iron。 I also loved seeing Grace surprised at how she cared about what he thought, and felt wrong using her powers on him。 It was great。 Grace was an interesting character in this one。 My opinions on her are definitely complicated。 I don't hate her anymore, because of the flashbacks that humanized her, but I still don't like her。 She has A LOT of work to do to redeem herself。 The last scene we see her in with James definitely reaffirmed that, by her still trying to manipulate him。 Anna and Ariadne are cute, but I don't care that much about them? I totally do not care about Jesse and Lucie's relationship。 I think they moved way too fast, and they barely know each other。 I still feel like we don't know anything about Jesse。 He doesn't stand out to me as a character - his personality is pretty generic (has a conscience and cares about Lucie)。 I just have never been attached to the Lucie/Jesse plots in the series。 I really like Lucie, but I don't like the plot arcs she's been given。 I do love her banter with Jessamine - it's glorious。 Speaking of the older generation, I loved all the little glimpses of them we got。 Will asking Thomas about Gideon owing him money? Absolutely hilarious and iconic。 The Wessa scene we got? Absolutely AMAZING I love them so so much。 The deeper moments with them were so touching as always。 They give the best advice。 It was so frustrating not having Magnus there until the end。 As always, when Magnus is not there things go to shit。 I did enjoy seeing all the Malcolm Fade stuff。 Even though I definitely don't trust him, it's cool to see the building blocks of his character to set up TDA。 I always love those connections Cassie makes between the series。 Going back to Cordelia, I was so heartbroken for her when we found out that she swore an oath to Lilith。 I knew that whole Wayland the Smith scene was sketchy AF, but I didn't know what exactly。 He asked her to swear an oath to him WAY too quickly。 Still, having the reveal be Lilith just broke my heart along with Cordelia。 The one thing she wants the most - to be a hero - she can't do atm because she can't fight without summoning Lilith。 It's going to be so hard for her in Chain of Thorns。 My heart just hurts for her。 Speaking of Greater Demons, Belial made me want to scream again。 I hate him SO MUCH。 He might be one of my most hated villains。 I do love how James never gives into his traps, though。 WILL AND TESSA HAVE TAUGHT HIM WELL。 *claps* I also loved the end piece about Charles and Matthew。 Exploring how we love our family, even if we don't necessarily like them, is a very profound theme that was definitely explored in this book。 I love exploring familial themes and this especially was interesting and profound。 This is completely irrelevant but Christopher is SO underrated and I request more of Christopher in Chain of Thorns PLEASE and thank you。 He's just so pure and adorable I can't。 (hide spoiler)] In terms of plot, the murder mystery was definitely interesting。 (view spoiler)[ I did NOT expect Elias to die so soon。 The impact of his death, however, and all the complicated feelings surrounding that, was executed wonderfully。 (hide spoiler)] I kinda predicted the general identity of the killer from the beginning, but I definitely doubted it throughout reading the book。 The mystery kept me engaged, though I really cared more about the characters than the plot。 (view spoiler)[ Speaking of which, there's something up with the Inquisitor。 There's more to him than just being an ignorant asshole。 (hide spoiler)] I am literally SO excited for Chain of Thorns I CANNOT WAIT!!! I have SO many theories。 (view spoiler)[ One of the characters goes to the Scholomance against their will, but which one? My bets are on Matthew。 I am definitely excited for the Jordelia reunion。 The Paris trip will NOT go as planned, and Matthew will still drink, reminding Cordelia of her father, and making her upset。 (That knowledge is the only thing keeping me together until Chain of Thorns)。 I am SO excited now that James finally knows how badly he's been manipulated the past couple years。 (hide spoiler)] Overall, I LOVED this book。 (not as much as Chain of Gold, but I still loved it) It wrecked my soul。 It truly demonstrated how keeping secrets tears away at relationships。 I LOVED most of the characters and ship moments (Jordelia is LIFE!!) I loved the general Shadowhunter gang learning more of the truth about (view spoiler)[ Jesse and everything。 It's SO refreshing。 (hide spoiler)] I loved the themes explored, from secrets to family to marriage to redemption。 The plot was engaging, but not the MAIN reason I continued to read。 Honestly, the plot made me so upset and mad on behalf of the characters。 I love this series so much, everyone should read it!! (In the right Shadowhunter Chronicles order of course haha) 。。。more

I was excited to see where this new shadow hunter story lead us。 Unfortunately, this very long book felt a little like a drawn out soap opera。 For me it wasn’t scarifying at al。 Just a sad disappointing ending full of stupid misunderstandings if only people would communicate。 They are supposed to be adults, but they sure dont act like it。

The Castaway

Its such a lovely book。 I’m honestly glad that I was able to read it as soon as it came out and it was much better then I expected。 Though it had a huge cliffhanger, I deliberately enjoyed it and would read the last part of the last hours without doubt。

Im trapped in this series and must finish it all。 Guilty pleasure books for sure, the ending of this definitely left me frustrated!I enjoyed how it sets up Malcom Fade’s story for a series she wrote on another timeline。

Definitely not my favorite Shadowhunters book。 Dragged in the middle and the ending was a bit cliche。

And my heart has been ripped out and won't be returned until I get answers。 Why oh why does the next book have to be a year away?!?I love the cast of characters that Clare has made。 I feel like they were fleshed out even more in this book。 I also didn't think I would love a couple more than Tessa and Will, but James and Cordelia are giving them a run for their money。 There are so many things I need answers about。 Lucie? Hey if the Shadowhunter books keep being written I will keep buying and keep reading。 This is one of the few series I am so heavily attached to。 I may be in my late 20s and I will probably be a mother with children still reading these books but that won't stop me! MVPs: Cordelia and oddly enough Alastair won me over in this book。 I want to see more of him in the next book。 Also can Matthew be given a happy ending and my little cinnamon roll that is Christopher。 I just want everyone to be happy okay?! 。。。more

Ouch。 That ending hurt。 I enjoyed this book much more than the first! It was much more plot driven, and had a lot more mystery, surprise reveals and insight to the characters。 It also involved quite a few of my favourite relationship tropes; friends to lovers, fake relationships, miscommunication/misunderstandings and possession。 😈I enjoyed seeing more of characters that weren’t as prominent in the last book, and learning more about their pasts, and how they connect into the overall plot。 Learni Ouch。 That ending hurt。 I enjoyed this book much more than the first! I。 Loved。 This。 Book!! 。。。more

I can’t wait for book 3 so we get an entire book with normal, beautiful James。Cordelia was even more kick butt in this book which I didn’t think was possible。 As she grew closer with her friends and got involved with everything going on around her, her desire for heroism only increased and she got even more awesome。 But, like everyone in this book, she had a seriously hard time in this book and I loved that she stood her ground on a lot of things。 I was so proud。 Which of course brings me to Cordelia and James who are SO ADORABLE and if they are not endgame I will lose my mind。 The whole married couple thing was hands down the best thing that could have happened and it was so beautiful that even the enchantment had a hard time ruining it。 But the horrible thing—and probably most heartbreaking thing—was that with the misunderstanding at the end I am so worried about the next book。 I do not want another love triangle and I hope that Cordelia will let him explain because that enchantment will NOT ruin my ship if I have anything to say about it。 But I digress。 The other characters were wonderful。 The merry thieves were *chefs kiss* absolutely wonderful and the other side characters (Alastair, malcom, etc) were so fleshed out that I grew to love them too。 Lucie and Jesse were such a cute couple as well and I like them both as characters。 I think I’ll love them even more in the next book。Which brings me to Grace who was probably the biggest surprise in this book。 I HATED her in the first book and I don’t particularly like her now but understanding her backstory really changed my overall view。 She has been abused and controlled and never really understood friendship and love。 Now that the enchantment is broken I am pretty excited to see her grow as a character even more。 (And maybe develop a relationship with a certain scientist。。。。) I recommend picking this book up ASAP because it is beautiful and makes you cry and laugh at the same time。I cannot wait for the next book。 Content: some language used sparingly, violence, some heavy making out scenes between f/m, m/m, and f/f。 Innuendo 。。。more

I AM DISTRESSED。 THAT ENDING。 But also every time I thought I didnt like something that was happening, another reveal happened that made me end up loving it。 Why don't I just trust Cassie at this point。 But damn。 The next one is gonna hurt like a BITCH。 I AM DISTRESSED。 THAT ENDING。 But also every time I thought I didnt like something that was happening, another reveal happened that made me end up loving it。 Why don't I just trust Cassie at this point。 But damn。 The next one is gonna hurt like a BITCH。 。。。more
