I honestly can't remember how I heard about this one and it definitely wasn't a thriller I had on my radar。 That being said, I was vey pleasantly surprised by this! It definitely kept me guessing the entire time and I found myself having a hard time walking away because I so badly wanted to know how it ended。 Although the main character can be absolutely infuriating at times, I did come to love her and thought the author did a great job of developing some of the other main characters as well。 Th I honestly can't remember how I heard about this one and it definitely wasn't a thriller I had on my radar。 That being said, I was vey pleasantly surprised by this! You would never know that this is a debut novel。 Alison is a barrister, a wife, a mother, a lover and a heavy drinker。 She has been given her first murder trial, and with the support of Patrick, her lover and solicitor, her career is on the up。 But is it? Everything is escalating out of control and her marriage is on the rocks。 She’s not a character you can warm to, but somehow the reader routes for her。 Patrick is bad news and she knows it。 But what happens in this dark, toxic read still comes You would never know that this is a debut novel。 Alison is a barrister, a wife, a mother, a lover and a heavy drinker。 She has been given her first murder trial, and with the support of Patrick, her lover and solicitor, her career is on the up。 But is it? No no no。The whole story was just badly narrated, the characters were annoying and unlikable and the 'plot-twist' non-existent。 Please don't read this book。 No no no。The whole story was just badly narrated, the characters were annoying and unlikable and the 'plot-twist' non-existent。 Please don't read this book。 。。。more

Easy to read, didn’t like any of the characters and the ending felt a bit rushed。 But a decent choice for a holiday read。

A third of the way in, I was almost prepared to DNF。 The promise of the story not told kept me going。 Halfway through I was positively demanding more insight to the real story。。。。 and by the time I hit 63%, I couldn’t put the book down! Punch after punch, the huts keep coming。 I’d guessed part of the story, so glad to see my deductions come to life。 But, I’d missed so much more!Excellent, once you’ve traversed your he excellently crafted misery of ‘normality’ in a failing life。

I read this rather quickly and I really did like it。The plot in times was predictable but as one of the first thrillers I’ve read, this will be the book that makes me pick up others。

I’d heard good things about this book so I wanted to give it a try。 As I work in a law firm, I was interested in the barrister side of the legal system。 I found the story intriguing enough to make me want to read on and there were a few twists along the way I didn’t expect。 However I found all of the characters extremely unlikeable and I didn’t really care what happened to any of them, apart from the little girl。 This took me out of the experience somewhat。

Well this book really is the gift that keeps on giving。 I’ve wanted to read blood orange for a while now and I have to say it was well and truly worth the wait。 There was never a dull moment in this book with the direction of the book being thrown from one page to the next。 It’s certainly one of the most exciting thrillers I’ve read in a long time and at no point at all did I have a clue what was coming next。 Even the ending wasn’t what I expected it to be。 Alison lives with her husband Carl and Well this book really is the gift that keeps on giving。 I’ve wanted to read blood orange for a while now and I have to say it was well and truly worth the wait。 There was never a dull moment in this book with the direction of the book being thrown from one page to the next。 It’s certainly one of the most exciting thrillers I’ve read in a long time and at no point at all did I have a clue what was coming next。 Even the ending wasn’t what I expected it to be。 Alison lives with her husband Carl and their daughter Matilda。 Alison works as a criminal lawyer and her husband Carl in a counsellor。 To most people it would seem that Alison has the perfect life; however this is not the case。 Alison and Carl have secrets, too many to keep their relationship healthy, not only that Alison never seems to be home she works long hours, likes a drink and is having an affair。 A recipe for disaster。 Alison is delighted when she gets her first murder case it’s the break in her career that she has always wanted and what she has always worked for。 It soon becomes clear to Alison that things in her murder case are not as black and white as everything seems。 The more Alison gets to know her client Madeline and sees the developments that led to to the murder she starts to look at the faults in her own marriage and decides to make more of an effort with her own family putting her husband and her daughter first。 I really liked Alison character she was a hard working mother who has slightly lost her was and I often found myself feeling sorry for her as the more she tried to improve her family life the more things seemed to go wrong for her。 Other times I did find myself questioning her decisions and thinking I wouldn’t be doing that if I was you but she did and that just added to the thrill of this book。 Five stars all the way! 。。。more

I liked the writing style and that this Book was easy to read。 Although the plot wasn't exactly to my taste。 I tried but I just wasn’t able to build a connection to none of the protagonists in Blood Orange。I also wouldn't really call the book a thriller, more a relationship drama。 The plot dragged on and only picked up speed and tension towards the end。 The ending of the story was, in my opinion, a bit unsatisfactory。 Conclusion I bought this Book because the plot sounded exciting, the character I liked the writing style and that this Book was easy to read。 Although the plot wasn't exactly to my taste。 I tried but I just wasn’t able to build a connection to none of the protagonists in Blood Orange。I also wouldn't really call the book a thriller, more a relationship drama。 The plot dragged on and only picked up speed and tension towards the end。 The ending of the story was, in my opinion, a bit unsatisfactory。 Conclusion I bought this Book because the plot sounded exciting, the characters also seem to have a lot of rough edges。The narrative starts out very promising。 Soon, however, I had to realize that the story simply lacks 。。。。。 bite。I guess this one just wasn’t for me。 。。。more

I was disappointed by this book。 It had a lot of good reviews and although it's a debut novel, the author had worked in the legal sector so a lot of the book was written with a high level of background knowledge。It was a struggle to keep reading and about halfway through the book I had to put it down for a couple of weeks because there was so little action。 Nothing really happened until the very end of the book, at which point it seemed odd to have so much action all of a sudden。 The ending was I was disappointed by this book。 It had a lot of good reviews and although it's a debut novel, the author had worked in the legal sector so a lot of the book was written with a high level of background knowledge。It was a struggle to keep reading and about halfway through the book I had to put it down for a couple of weeks because there was so little action。 Nothing really happened until the very end of the book, at which point it seemed odd to have so much action all of a sudden。 The ending was very predictable, and I found I had guessed almost everything that ended up happening。 The style of writing wasn't for me。 It read a bit like a children's book, where the author describes everything without trusting the reader to figure anything out themselves。Finally, the main plot concerns a middle class wealthy woman whose only problems in life are the men she chooses to have relationships with。 There is more to it than this but essentially it boils down to 'first world problems' and when none of the characters are likeable, it is a struggle to finish reading。 。。。more

Easy read。 The first half of the book felt quite mundane however in the last few chapters the plot became really exciting to read, I could not put it down and it all came together。 Amazing ending。 Incredible writing。

Anyway the story frustrated me no end with how they both treated the female lead。 She's a mess, yes, but I kept waiting for her to stand up for herself or resolve her issues at least halfway through。 I enjoy books with I couldn't finish this book, the hubby? he abuses her in such a subtle way literally there is nothing she can do right and the colleague who she has a long standing affair with is toxic he has zero respect for her often forcing her to have sex when she's so drunk she can't stand! Who knows, Not my cup of tea, even though I usually enjoy a good thriller。 The book is full of unlikeable characters and imagine having an affair with someone even worse than your husband? Bonkers!! Anyway, how can she be so successful in the courtroom, and yet she can't work out that her husband is gaslighting her? She is so eager to please and gain her bosses attention; she does not even realise she's being drugged and degraded by both men。 So many good reviews on the book; I don't get it? I didn't connect with the book at all。 Anyway, as you can tell, I'm disappointed as this was a book recommended at book club? 。。。more

The book was great to begin with, thrilling and I did find myself constantly turning pages which is great! I just think towards the end of the book the story line was a little random, almost like the author had tried to squeeze in everything as possible。 It was also a little shocking as to how flawed some of the characters were towards the end but with this said it was definitely not your typical type of ending or read。 I’d still rate it four stars, the only part which was disappointing was the The book was great to begin with, thrilling and I did find myself constantly turning pages which is great! THE BELLS OF ST CLEMENTSNot my usual genre and I had to block out bits of my sensitive self to read it。 But a clever book and perhaps more a 3。5。 Woman centred and up to date on #metoo issues。 I admire the protagonist for her work ethic but find heavy drinking off putting whether male or female。 Apart from that I don’t condone her lifestyle and glad she came out ok。 To the author’s credit the booze culture isn’t seen as much fun。 The court case is a good sub plot and I was pleased with that outc THE BELLS OF ST CLEMENTSNot my usual genre and I had to block out bits of my sensitive self to read it。 But a clever book and perhaps more a 3。5。 Woman centred and up to date on #metoo issues。 I admire the protagonist for her work ethic but find heavy drinking off putting whether male or female。 Apart from that I don’t condone her lifestyle and glad she came out ok。 To the author’s credit the booze culture isn’t seen as much fun。 The court case is a good sub plot and I was pleased with that outcome。 What a sordid job even if well paid。 I felt very sorry for the two kids involved。 It would make a good miniseries with the right actors。 。。。more

I'd heard a lot about this book and chose it purely on the buzz surrounding it。 After finishing it in 3 days flat (very quick for me) I can see why everyone was talking about it。 Harriet Tyce is a former barrister so writes authentically about her protagonist Alison, a heavy drinking barrister with a caseload at work and a caseload in her personal life too。 Alison is married to Carl, mother to Matilda and sleeping with Patrick, an unlikeable character with whom she is working on her first murder I'd heard a lot about this book and chose it purely on the buzz surrounding it。 After finishing it in 3 days flat (very quick for me) I can see why everyone was talking about it。 Harriet Tyce is a former barrister so writes authentically about her protagonist Alison, a heavy drinking barrister with a caseload at work and a caseload in her personal life too。 Alison is married to Carl, mother to Matilda and sleeping with Patrick, an unlikeable character with whom she is working on her first murder case。The scene is set for a tightly knit story of twists, turns and shocks。 Every strand of the story has layers I wasn't expecting and despite Alison' s flaws, she really grew on me, and grew herself too。 It takes a lot for a book to grab me like this and I would recommend it to anyone who loves to get truly lost in a fast pacede story。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This was a good easy to read, twisty thriller。 Though some things were perhaps a little predictable, such as Carl having deeper issues。 None of the characters are actually likeable, most of all I felt sorry for the little girl, Matilda。 It was quite an upsetting ending for the reader as Patrick and Carl escape punishment through their deaths。

I read 80% of this like yes love this book make this a BBC drama I’ll watch it。 And then the ending。 What the fuck was that。 First book I’ve read in a long time where I really didn’t see that coming。 Please check trigger warnings before reading this book。

feel like the ending was needlessly twisted for shock value, but as thrillers go, it was very readable

I literally devoured this。 There was something so compelling that I couldn’t stop reading。 I did guess what was happening halfway through (I read way too many books like this!) but I didn’t guess the twist at the end。 Thoroughly enjoyable!
