Summary

With the wit and read-aloud appeal of Peter Brown’s Children Make Terrible Pets and William Steig’s Pete’s a Pizza, this funny, fierce picture book teaches kids just what it takes to be a great lion。

There are seven steps to becoming a proper lion, including Looking Fierce, Roaring, Prowling Around, and Pouncing。 Our young hero, a rather meek and scrawny human boy, does his best to learn the necessary skills during his training with a master instructor (who just happens to be a real lion)。 After a grueling set of lessons, the boy discovers that that the final step—Looking Out for Your Friends—is the most important of all。 That’s how any kid can earn his lion diploma (not to mention the affection of every cat in town)。

This one (of the 8 by Jon Agee we read together today) is Ivy's favourite, and I have to say it comes a close 2nd for me。 For Ivy it became a participatory book - she did stretching exercises, she did all the Lion Lessons, she wore a poncho as her mane 。 。 。Very funny - great expressions on the teacher's face, wry humour, and a wonderful ending。 This one (of the 8 by Jon Agee we read together today) is Ivy's favourite, and I have to say it comes a close 2nd for me。 For Ivy it became a participatory book - she did stretching exercises, she did all the Lion Lessons, she wore a poncho as her mane 。 。 。Very funny - great expressions on the teacher's face, wry humour, and a wonderful ending。 。。。more

We loved this story about a young boy taking lessons on how to be a lion。 He was not stellar at some of them, but did his best at protecting his friends。

I love the illustrations in this book。 They remind me of Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans。 This determined boy tells readers in the beginning that he got his lion diploma and so can we。 He tells the reader how he gets it by learning the 7 steps to be a lion from the best of the teacher around, a lion。 His first attempts at the steps showed that he needed to improve。 He worked hard the second time around when a kitten was in danger and blew the teacher away! Title: Lion LessonsAuthor: Jon AgeePublished: 2016Age Appropriateness: K-1stSummary: How to be a great lion in 7, easy to follow steps! Review: This book is so cute! It follows a sequential story line, as well as problem solving。 I believe this would be good for younger age groups as they begin to learn academic language!

Did you know there were seven steps to becoming a proper lion? Learn all about them with this book by Jon Agee and then practice becoming the best lion ever! Jon Agee is one of my favorite children’s authors because of the absurd humor in all his books and the sometimes-unexpected moral at the end of the story。 This would be a great book to act out with your little one after reading through together。 Enjoy this one now by checking out a copy through OverDrive! – Reviewed by Stephanie at MCPL Rea Did you know there were seven steps to becoming a proper lion? This book has not won me over, even after a second reading。 Yet, I can't stop thinking about it。 The best part of the teaching aspect is pushing past failures。 As long as you are working and trying things should come out alright。 At least there is a hint of that moral in this story。 This book has not won me over, even after a second reading。 Yet, I can't stop thinking about it。 The best part of the teaching aspect is pushing past failures。 As long as you are working and trying things should come out alright。 At least there is a hint of that moral in this story。 。。。more

This book is great because it allows people to see that despite the boy not being an actual lion he still showed all the signs of a lion and "graduated" lion school。 This book is great because it allows people to see that despite the boy not being an actual lion he still showed all the signs of a lion and "graduated" lion school。 。。。more

What do you do if you're a kid but want to learn to act, speak and eat like the king of the beasts? Why, take lion lessons of course。 This book covers a 7 step process in which a boy transforms into a lion。 Tongue in cheek as you would expect and with humor that both kids and adults will like, (I myself always chuckle when I read it) this is a gem of a read aloud。Find Lion Lessons at Westminster Public Library today!
