I put off reading this for so long and then I could barely put it down。 I loved reading it for the same reasons I loved some of Dan Browns books。。。 the mystery and history woven into them are fun even though the writing style and characters are。。。 not the most expertly crafted。 I am tickled by how into business and gadgets the author clearly is (lol PowerBook gH7 or whatever) but I really stayed for the family drama。 It made the last 100 pages a bit of a drag, but I liked it enough to plan on re I put off reading this for so long and then I could barely put it down。 I loved reading it for the same reasons I loved some of Dan Browns books。。。 the mystery and history woven into them are fun even though the writing style and characters are。。。 not the most expertly crafted。 I am tickled by how into business and gadgets the author clearly is (lol PowerBook gH7 or whatever) but I really stayed for the family drama。 It made the last 100 pages a bit of a drag, but I liked it enough to plan on reading the second one。 3 stars with a bonus for a truly grotesque underbelly I didn’t quite predict but was thoroughly immersed (and disgusted) in 。。。more

I generally do not read crime/thriller type books, but this one has such cultural standing that I felt it was worth a trip into this genre。 It was compelling, and had decent characters and some good social commentary。 It definitely made me want to become a hacker, if only to be an anonymous purveyor of justice [Note: my continued use of a 2008 classic iPod tells you what you need to know about the likelihood of that happening。。。] I will not seek out the movie, though I may read another in the Mi I generally do not read crime/thriller type books, but this one has such cultural standing that I felt it was worth a trip into this genre。 It was compelling, and had decent characters and some good social commentary。 It definitely made me want to become a hacker, if only to be an anonymous purveyor of justice [Note: my continued use of a 2008 classic iPod tells you what you need to know about the likelihood of that happening。。。] I will not seek out the movie, though I may read another in the Millennium series at a later time。 Might be more a 3。5 than a 3。 。。。more

DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY SAGA & FINANCIAL INTRIGUE。 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a thrill ride that kept me reading late into the night。 In the beginning, I was slow to connect with the characters and the story。 A lot of initially confusing details kept me checking and rechecking to make sure I understood what was happening。 The translation from Swedish wasn't always smooth either, and there are several subplots, but I was determined to finish it。 The Swedish names and places were also diffi DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY SAGA & FINANCIAL INTRIGUE。 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a thrill ride that kept me reading late into the night。 In the beginning, I was slow to connect with the characters and the story。 A lot of initially confusing details kept me checking and rechecking to make sure I understood what was happening。 The translation from Swedish wasn't always smooth either, and there are several subplots, but I was determined to finish it。 The Swedish names and places were also difficult to distinguish from one another at times, but once I got past the first 50 pages, I was hooked。 Each time one mystery seems solved, another one surfaces。 The setting is Sweden, and the atmosphere always felt dark and cold - perfect for this story。 The character development, especially of the two main characters was fantastic。 Lisbeth was a fantastic character, even though she could be a downer at times。 Blomkvist was the perfect compliment to her, in my opinion。 I felt like I was inside their mind at times。 Now I am very eager to read the next book in the trilogy。 I would love to discover the hidden layers of Lisbeth's character, and I suspect there is a lot more to her story。 。。。more

Lisbeth has got to be one of the most interesting characters I’ve gotten to know from reading fiction。 This is one of those books where you keep turning the pages and never pay attention to the page numbers-was captivated from beginning to end。 “People always have secrets。 It’s just a matter of finding out what they are” “I’ve had many enemies over the years。 If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s never engage in a fight you’re sure to lose。 On the other hand, never let anyone who has insulted Lisbeth has got to be one of the most interesting characters I’ve gotten to know from reading fiction。 This is one of those books where you keep turning the pages and never pay attention to the page numbers-was captivated from beginning to end。 “People always have secrets。 It’s just a matter of finding out what they are” “I’ve had many enemies over the years。 If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s never engage in a fight you’re sure to lose。 On the other hand, never let anyone who has insulted you get away with it” “Being a homicide detective can be the loneliest job in the world。 The friends of the victim are upset and in despair, but sooner or later—after weeks or months—they go back to their everyday lives。 For the closest family it takes longer, but for the most part, to some degree, they too get over their grieving and despair。 Life has to go on; it does go on。 But the unsolved murders keep gnawing away and in the end there’s only one person left who thinks night and day about the victim: it’s the officer who’s left with the investigation” 。。。more

I’m unsure what to rate this novel。 It is incredibly well written and it definitely didn’t fall flat but it’s not the kind of thriller that I’ve recently enjoyed reading。 There was quite a bit of economic information that sort of dulled the otherwise exciting elements of Harriet’s case。 I found myself engaging with the characters and although I do not necessarily agree with Blomkvist and Berger’s agreement, I enjoyed Blomkvist as a character。

I thought I had read this when it first came out but if I did, it's such a vague memory that I don't even remember it!What a book and mystery。 I liked that each storyline was vaguely connected but that while not necessarily related, Salander's storyline established her history, personality, and potential。After that wrapped up, she was able to progress as a person emotionally as well as professionally and I think she had a great storyline。 Blomkvist was more of the static character but he was mul I thought I had read this when it first came out but if I did, it's such a vague memory that I don't even remember it!What a book and mystery。 I liked that each storyline was vaguely connected but that while not necessarily related, Salander's storyline established her history, personality, and potential。After that wrapped up, she was able to progress as a person emotionally as well as professionally and I think she had a great storyline。 Blomkvist was more of the static character but he was multifaceted too at least。You know, i did read this because as I'm musing on the characters I remember as a high schooler being so interested in the action and kick-assery, that i couldn't believe my dad read it and was focusing more on the characters, but throughout the years for some reason Salander was a favorite character study of his Anyway - I think the Swedes have a certain distinct style of writing thrillers and mysteries that also incorporates a little more horror and grotesque that most other cultures。 I read The Wolf and the Watchman maybe last year and the absolute horror story involved reminded me of the hatred and violence in this book。Totally love it, and I also was really glad for some reason that - now bear with me - anytime a Nazi pops up they are usually the criminal, but while the Nazi in this book was obviously a shithead - he wasn't one of the main antagonists, more like some crazy old guy。I had no freaking idea who the real criminal(s) were。 I also listened to a few chapters on audio and think Simon Vance is a great narrator。My only gripe was literally the last paragraph of the book, why end it on a 。。。 Misunderstanding? When that device wasn't used throughout the rest of thr book? I can't wait to read the rest of these books 。。。more

I totally get the hype。 After the first 40 pages I thought it would be such a drag to read。 I almost ditched it。 But as I got further it just snow balled into a huge thriller drama that I just couldn't put down。 I read the whole thing in just 3 days。 There were parts that were a bit boring to read but when it came down to it it was still amazing。 So much happened in this book, I would like to reread it again now that I understand what was happening all along。 Not the average thriller。 The crime I totally get the hype。 After the first 40 pages I thought it would be such a drag to read。 I almost ditched it。 But as I got further it just snow balled into a huge thriller drama that I just couldn't put down。 I read the whole thing in just 3 days。 There were parts that were a bit boring to read but when it came down to it it was still amazing。 So much happened in this book, I would like to reread it again now that I understand what was happening all along。 Not the average thriller。 The crime starts at nothing and ends up incredibly dark and insane。 I am very excited to read the next book。 。。。more

Good book。 At first, hard to read and a bit confusing, you feel like you missed some important parts of the story。 But, as you move on and reach the main focus of the book, it is adictive! A very exciting and graphic (not for the faint of heart) crime novel。 Will definitely read the other volumes of the series。
