Summary

As a successful social media journalist with half a million followers, seventeen-year-old Cal is used to sharing his life online。 But when his pilot father is selected for a highly publicized NASA mission to Mars, Cal and his family relocate from Brooklyn to Houston and are thrust into a media circus。

Amidst the chaos, Cal meets sensitive and mysterious Leon, another “Astrokid,” and finds himself falling head over heels—fast。 As the frenzy around the mission grows, so does their connection。 But when secrets about the program are uncovered, Cal must find a way to reveal the truth without hurting the people who have become most important to him。

Expertly capturing the thrill of first love and the self-doubt all teens feel, debut author Phil Stamper is a new talent to watch。

2。5 starsThe story was cute,And I loved the fact that there is LGBT representation as well as the mental health awareness。。 but。。 I really really don’t like Insta-love, and this was waaaaayy too insta-lovey for me。 Also I really don’t like characters like Kat’s where she always has something to say about their relationship。 Like yeah they’re positive comments, but it just feels unnecessary and almost meddly。。。 I do still like the plot of the book because I love space! And I love romance! This is a good read for very young adults。

As soon as I read the blurb and realized this book had to do with NASA and a mission to Mars, I was hooked。 And GOD, I was not disappointed。 I had some minor issues at first with getting into the story and how quickly the relationship/attraction between Cal and Leon was initiated but this book just made me so happy。 I teared up at the epilogue and also simultaneously had the biggest, dopiest grin on my face。 I also really liked the variety of character relationships explored and the depth in eve As soon as I read the blurb and realized this book had to do with NASA and a mission to Mars, I was hooked。 And GOD, I was not disappointed。 I had some minor issues at first with getting into the story and how quickly the relationship/attraction between Cal and Leon was initiated but this book just made me so happy。 I teared up at the epilogue and also simultaneously had the biggest, dopiest grin on my face。 I also really liked the variety of character relationships explored and the depth in every single one。 What I wouldn’t give to be apart of something like that - my childhood dreams of working for NASA were hitting hard :’) 。。。more

I thought it was great it's just not really my type of book, I don't think I'll ever get used to anything but enemies to lovers in romance books。 But the plot and storytelling were great nonetheless。 I thought it was great it's just not really my type of book, I don't think I'll ever get used to anything but enemies to lovers in romance books。 But the plot and storytelling were great nonetheless。 。。。more

The book was alright, but some things felt really forced。

This book was really cute and heartwarming! I needed a break from sad & tragic romances and, thankfully, this did the trick! I definitely recommend this book to people who like light and fluffy romances。

Chase

I really enjoyed this book! Also, this was my first ever queer ya!

dnf at 16%。。。 i just could not get into this book。 The main character, the dialogue, the plot, it was all unlikeable, which was disappointing because it sounded so interesting。

Thank you to Netgalley for providing an Arc copy。The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper tells the story of Cal, a social media journalist, and his family as they move across the country for his father to take part in the Orpheus V space mission with Nasa。 There he makes friends, enemies, and learns a lot about what it means to fight for an important cause。 One of my favorite parts of this book was how focused it was on Cal's family。 I feel that too often young adult novels have non existent parents, Thank you to Netgalley for providing an Arc copy。The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper tells the story of Cal, a social media journalist, and his family as they move across the country for his father to take part in the Orpheus V space mission with Nasa。 There he makes friends, enemies, and learns a lot about what it means to fight for an important cause。 One of my favorite parts of this book was how focused it was on Cal's family。 I feel that too often young adult novels have non existent parents, and the teenage characters are able to move the plot forward without consequence。 Cal's mother and father were frequent in this novel and they were well developed to the point where I felt that they were real people。 I think that this adds an extraordinary amount of logic to the plot。 I love how each family member came together over the course of the novel。 I also appreciated how the struggles that Cal's parents went through were shown。I also loved the romance in this book。 I felt that given the short time line that this relationship still felt realistic。 I immediately felt their connection and was waiting for more moments between them。 When they would have conflict I would feel for them and the impact would propel me to read even more。Over all I think that The Gravity of Us is a beautifully written book about family, love, and doing what is right。 I highly recommend this book to everyone。 。。。more

This book is as much a gay love story as it is a look into the lives of astronauts families。 I enjoyed the current references and the modern feel of the story in this book。 Cal (the main character) is likeable enough and his family and friends create a cast that you come to root for。 I didn’t expect such a camp slant to this story, and at times it made me cringe, but I liked this book overall。

Super sweet and fluffy with just the right amount of drama :D

This book is。。。fine。 It is entertaining enough。 But there's not a lot of substance here, at least not anything that makes it particularly memorable。 I read this a few days ago and already I keep forgetting about it。 I would've have liked to see more time on the plot that's running in the background, where the main character (I wanna say Cal?)'s dad is training for a manned mission to Mars。 I would have definitely liked to see more development of the actual characters here, because other than nam This book is。。。fine。 It is entertaining enough。 But there's not a lot of substance here, at least not anything that makes it particularly memorable。 I read this a few days ago and already I keep forgetting about it。 I would've have liked to see more time on the plot that's running in the background, where the main character (I wanna say Cal?)'s dad is training for a manned mission to Mars。 I would have definitely liked to see more development of the actual characters here, because other than names and the briefest hints as to their physical appearances, we don't get much on them。 The romance in the book is pretty straight forward and unconvincing。 Or perhaps uninteresting would be the better word? There's no real chemistry between these characters, possibly because the protagonist's love interest has no real personality beyond bland friendliness with a dash of depression thrown in。 It's not bad, per se; I don't hate it。 But it's nothing to write home about。 Honestly I probably shouldn't even be trying to review this, given how much of the book I've already forgotten。 It's probably not the most fair assessment。 But all in all, it was fine。 I don't mind that I read it or feel cheated out of a day of my life。 I was just expecting more。。。pizzazz, or something。 。。。more

The pacing of this book was so weird。 It was like it couldn’t decide whether to be an Andy Weir-style space exploration story or a teen romance, and I don’t know if it really did either justice。 However, I really liked the grown-ups in this book。 They all seemed genuine and earnest, which isn’t often a luxury afforded to depictions of parents。 The romance was pretty underwhelming, though, and I don’t think it should be the selling point of the book。

4 stars for the borrowed audiobook version。 It's a fluffy feel-good story。 It's cute, it has its flaws, but it gave me that nostalgia for a life I never lived, and I value that in my fiction。 4 stars for the borrowed audiobook version。 It's a fluffy feel-good story。 It's cute, it has its flaws, but it gave me that nostalgia for a life I never lived, and I value that in my fiction。 。。。more

3。5 Stars。 The Gravity of Us is a very cute read, definitely enjoyed it a lot。 I like the mixing of science and lgbtq romance! Cal is a video blogger and Leon is an ex-gymnast。 Their parents are chosen to be astronauts as part of the same mission。 Leon has already been living in Texas for a while when Cal arrives。 Cal doesn’t want to leave New York, he and his best friend Deb had a plan: save up, leave home, move in together。 Now Cal’s dad says that they’re moving to Texas。 Not within the plan。 3。5 Stars。 The Gravity of Us is a very cute read, definitely enjoyed it a lot。 I like the mixing of science and lgbtq romance! Like they got together very quickly and there was no room for me to actually connect with the relationship—though they were very cute。 I know a lot of people don’t like Cal but I actually for the most part didn’t have a problem with him, I did have a problem with how he treated everything like it was about him。 Though, he’s 17 and famous, he probably feels like everything is about him。 Overall, I didn’t feel connected to the characters but I actually quite loved the plot。 I gave it 3。5 because it wasn’t quite 4 stars for me。 Very cute story。 。。。more

I had to dnf this one (at around 50%) because the instalove we get isn't really my thing (I prefer slowburn, or at least some kind of build up) and our main character isn't that likeable。 Other than that the book has its moments, so if you enjoy YAs with instalove, then go for it! The author takes some liberties in logic and there are a couple of “he did not just go there” moments, but his writing style overcomes any of that kind of criticism 。 。。。 If you have some great stories like this one, you can publish it on Novel Star, just submit your story to hardy@novelstar。top or joye@novelstar。top

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Honestly, this book was a bad one; I loved the promise of it but with the sixteen year old kind of being a spoiled brat and trying to force himself on the love interest。。。on top of breaking rules that would not fly in real life, I had to put it down。 Not to mention, what did the kid even look like? What did his love interest look like? They never explained anything like it。 So, I guess it’s going to Half Price Books for this one。

2,5。 The story for me was okay but just that。 The romance felt extremely rushed and entirely without mystery, if that makes sense。 It starts as soon as cal sees a pic of leon and then keeps happening very fast, so fast that I couldn't really find the time to get attached to their relationship。 The friendship aspects of this book was the rockiest bit to me。 The way cal treated deb was just so bizarre? (view spoiler)[ she loses her entire home and cal can't even bother to say that sucks?? He never worries about her situation after one crisis and he never even apologizes?? But she's fine with the whole thing because cal is famous now?? What the actual fuck?? (hide spoiler)] I was pissed on her behalf honestly。 And since I thought so, I also found how easily the whole thing resolved equally weird。 Doesn't deb have any feelings about this? I'm not even mentioning how he shared literally nothing with her about what was actually going on in his life after the move or asked about hers。 What kind of a friendship is this? And then there is cal's "friendship" with kat which I don't buy at all, I'm sorry。 We never really see them have any meaningful time together doing something other than talking about leon。 Cal was just so entirely focused on leon for the entire time, imo。 Which brings me to my next point, I wish leon was more fleshed out and an actual character。 All we know about him is that he's very hot, depressed, was a gymnast at one point, and listens to kpop。 End of the list。 Same goes for kat, actually she's got it even worse, but since cal spends a great deal of this book thinking and talking about leon, his level of development bothered me more。 It's hard to root for/care that much about someone you basically don't know。The parts about nasa and the scientists were very interesting and touching。 It was a quick read。 But to me, the story and the characters lacked some serious spark。 。。。more

The life of Cal itself was interesting。 And his ideologies, though he's a little stubborn。 But he knows his stand。 And the writer knows what to amplify, the truth and the importance of your stand。 I really enjoyed reading the whole novel。 I love how Cal learned and grow。 And I love Leon too, it just in this novel, he's part of Cal's story but not like other novels where it always about Leon This novel was a real deal。 We can say that this is a good novel setting aside, the love story part。 How?
