Summary

Roland and his tet have just returned to the path of the Beam when they discover that they are being followed by a group of inexperienced trackers。 The trackers are from the town of Calla Bryn Sturgis, and they desperately need the help of gunslingers。 Once every generation, a band of masked riders known as the Wolves gallop out of the dark land of Thunderclap to steal one half of all the twins born in the Callas。 When the children are returned, they are roont, or mentally and physically ruined。 In less than a month, the Wolves will raid again。 In exchange for Roland’s aid, Father Callahan—a priest originally from our world—offers to give Roland a powerful but evil seeing sphere, a sinister globe called Black Thirteen which he has hidden below the floorboards of his church。 Not only must Roland and his tet discover a way to defeat the invincible Wolves, but they must also return to New York so that they can save our world’s incarnation of the Dark Tower from the machinations of the evil Sombra Corporation。

Another great one in the series that has me ready to dive in to book 6。This book has been stuck in my head since finishing it a few days ago。 🤯Now I feel like I have to read ‘Salem’s Lot and whole mess more of Steven King once I finish this series

I am thoroughly enjoying making my way toward the Dark Tower。 The series is great。

Another one of my favorites in this series mostly because we get an adventure where our favorite ka-tet is inserted into the history and story of a separate community。 This one I see as kind of a bridge for the books that come before and after it。

Ehh。。。 I don’t know。 The characters are good, I’ll always love Roland。 I really love Jake and Oy too。 This book was much better than the previous, the story is just。。。 meh all around though。 Uninspiring, unoriginal, honestly, I don’t care that much about the dark tower or it’s mysteries。 King has really dragged this one out。 Only 2 more books then I can move on。 Maybe Game of Thrones next :D

This one was a welcome return to the Ka-Tet after the previous books deviation into Roland's past。 Stephen King is in the form of his life writing these novels and his enjoyment really shines through the pages。 My attention never faltered with this book despite it's hefty size which only goes to show how good his writing is here。 Really liked the ending too and the relentless references/Easter eggs into King's other works。 Keen to get stuck into the next one but sad that there's only two (three This one was a welcome return to the Ka-Tet after the previous books deviation into Roland's past。 Stephen King is in the form of his life writing these novels and his enjoyment really shines through the pages。 My attention never faltered with this book despite it's hefty size which only goes to show how good his writing is here。 Really liked the ending too and the relentless references/Easter eggs into King's other works。 Keen to get stuck into the next one but sad that there's only two (three if including TWTTK) left to go in the series。 Consistently intriguing and absolutely full of enough mystery to make your head spin。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Didnt get much into this one。 Callahan was fascinating but im not a vampire fan & hadnt read his source material (Lot)。 Was hoping this book woulda given more answers (Andys history, were the Wolves the only thing in the east?)。 Lastly, had hoped the end would send heroes temporarily seperate ways; coulda made for a dual story book 6。 Great storyline using Suze to move us to book 6 though

This was very long and slow at times, so I had to put it aside and read other things for a while, but a satisfying conclusion to one section and then many questions opened up in the last part。 Interesting, but not without flaws。

I don't remember how I got my hands on the first Dark Tower book, but I've loved them ever since。 I'm not a prolific reader and the entire series was published by the time I discovered the first one。 This made the idea of such a long tale daunting and rewarding at the same time。 I read the first four books over several years, took a long break, saw the movie, regretted seeing the movie, then re-read the first four books。。。 I finally picked up book five, Wolves of Calla, having built it up in my I don't remember how I got my hands on the first Dark Tower book, but I've loved them ever since。 I'm not a prolific reader and the entire series was published by the time I discovered the first one。 This made the idea of such a long tale daunting and rewarding at the same time。 I read the first four books over several years, took a long break, saw the movie, regretted seeing the movie, then re-read the first four books。。。 I finally picked up book five, Wolves of Calla, having built it up in my head to be the best adventure in the series yet。。。 but no, no it wasn't。 The first several chapters and parts were exactly what I love about the series。 Our ka-tet was needed on a new level of the tower in an old farming community。 They had to save children from the dreaded Wolves。 There's a good chance a piece of the Wizard's glass is involved。 What could go wrong。。。Enter Father Callahan and vampires。 Instead of finding this interesting and exciting, I found it forced and unnecessary。 I haven't read any of Stephen King's other books。 While I knew Father Callahan started his story in the town from Salem's Lot, I didn't have any clue he was a character from that book。 I'll take the blame for that。Once I finished the Wolves of Calla and realized there must be a deeper tie to Salem's lot, I read the synopsis。 Turns out I already read the synopsis, the Wolves of Calla。 A third of the book is Father Callahan's backstory which is simply Salem's Lot plus a few bus rides though a thinny。 If you had already read Salem's Lot, I would have to assume you were bored out your mind reading Wolves of Calla。I'm not sure if I feel cheated since around a third of this book was just recycled material or not。 Makes more sense why the vampire came in to the Dark Tower realm。 Apparently it was simply time to write a Salem's Lot and Dark Tower sequel so why not combine them。 The whole two birds with one stone。 With that frustration aired, I still give the book four stars because it does check all the boxes I've come to love about the Dark Tower series。 While I'll say I think it's the weakest so far, I'm still excited to move on with their adventure。 I just hope Father Callahan doesn't come along。 。。。more

My journey to the Dark Tower continues and I’ve finished the fifth book in the Dark Tower series。 I’m not going to get into specifics to avoid spoilers, but my overall thoughts on this one is that I like it。 It’s not my favorite of the series, but still a solid entry。 It has a strong The Magnificent Seven vibe to itand for me that, mixed in with the Dark Tower craziness was cool since I’m into westerns and that aspect of this series I love。

Pissed that I guessed every twist EXCEPT the Harry Potter one

Father Callahan Is Back!I enjoyed this particular one immensely。 As a fan of Father Callahan of "Salem's Lot"。 I wondered what became of him。 And the town of Calla was interesting。 I read them out of order, but that's ok。 I followed with no problem。 Father Callahan Is Back!I enjoyed this particular one immensely。 As a fan of Father Callahan of "Salem's Lot"。 I wondered what became of him。 And the town of Calla was interesting。 I read them out of order, but that's ok。 I followed with no problem。 。。。more

The last few books in this series have really catapulted this into one of my favorite series of all time。 The wacky but serious tones that King balances so well in this novel particularly seem to me to be just like King, and at his best。 While the scope seems to be getting larger with every book in the series, the characters are getting more and more personal and nuanced。 King still struggles with pacing, but this is the best paced book in the series so far。 King has launched himself into my fav The last few books in this series have really catapulted this into one of my favorite series of all time。 The wacky but serious tones that King balances so well in this novel particularly seem to me to be just like King, and at his best。 While the scope seems to be getting larger with every book in the series, the characters are getting more and more personal and nuanced。 King still struggles with pacing, but this is the best paced book in the series so far。 King has launched himself into my favorite author of all time。 。。。more

(9/10)- I love this series so much。 It’s gotten so much better。 The characters and world building are amazing。 The story is epic。 Overall it’s wonderful。 It got a bit confusing sometimes, and a lot of information was withheld until the very end, but it was still great。 I loved it。 I can’t wait to read the next。

Even if it's kind of a side quest, it is still quite entertaining, and with an intriguing twist in the epilogue。 I found it more rewarding given that i read "Salem's lot" when I was a kid many years ago。 Even if it's kind of a side quest, it is still quite entertaining, and with an intriguing twist in the epilogue。 I found it more rewarding given that i read "Salem's lot" when I was a kid many years ago。 。。。more

The book’s plot is good, but you can tell King’s starting to get weird with the overarching, 7-book plot。

I'm going to start this review with why I gave it a 3 star and why I need to reread it。 I read the first 4 Dark Tower novels back to back in the span of about 5 weeks。 I knew while I was reading Wizard and Glass I was getting Dark Tower fatigue。 I pushed through that book and decided to jump right into this one。 That was a mistake。 I was just not into this book。 While we were reading how a character gets to Calla I just was bored。 I put the book down for about 7 months。 I picked it back up and s I'm going to start this review with why I gave it a 3 star and why I need to reread it。 I read the first 4 Dark Tower novels back to back in the span of about 5 weeks。 I knew while I was reading Wizard and Glass I was getting Dark Tower fatigue。 I pushed through that book and decided to jump right into this one。 That was a mistake。 I was just not into this book。 While we were reading how a character gets to Calla I just was bored。 I put the book down for about 7 months。 I picked it back up and started where I left off and enjoyed every minute of it。I will reread this book maybe next year or so and probably revise this review。 。。。more
