Summary

Reidon Ward will become a god。

He doesn't know it yet, of course。 Reidon was born weak, sickly and small。 Afflicted with a painful disease and abandoned by his parents because of it, he has had to fight tooth and nail for every minor advantage life has allowed him。

His perseverance has not gone unnoticed, however, and when the most powerful artificial intelligence in human history takes an interest in him, things began to change quickly。 Granted a CAD—a Combat Assistance Device—with awful specs but an infinite potential for growth, Reidon finds himself at the bottom of his class at the Galens Institute, one of the top military academies in the Collective。 Along with his best friend, Viviana Arada, Reidon will have to start his long climb through the school rankings, and on to the combat tournament circuits that have become humanity's greatest source of excitement and entertainment。

So begins the rise of a god。 So begins the ascent of the Stormweaver。

Empty Calories:I'd heard quite a lot of hype about this book from fellow fantasy of progression fantasy, and while it isn't terrible, I personally found to be unfulfilling, similar to Solo Leveling (If you enjoy it, you may enjoy this story as well。)Humans are ruled by an AI, and have been fighting aliens for centuries using items called "CADs" that essentially make life a litrpg。 Each CAD has a specialty determined by their AI ruler。。。and in centuries, it's never thought to give anyone a boost Empty Calories:I'd heard quite a lot of hype about this book from fellow fantasy of progression fantasy, and while it isn't terrible, I personally found to be unfulfilling, similar to Solo Leveling (If you enjoy it, you may enjoy this story as well。)Humans are ruled by an AI, and have been fighting aliens for centuries using items called "CADs" that essentially make life a litrpg。 Each CAD has a specialty determined by their AI ruler。。。and in centuries, it's never thought to give anyone a boost in the blatantly obvious best stat, growth, despite being stuck in a war that is at best a stalemate, and at worst one they're losing。The MC naturally gets his CAD with pififul scores in everything but growth, but his growth stat is orders of magnitude higher than anyyone else in history。 Despite knowing this, he's nearly not let into a war college, then treated like dirt by the faculty。Later, once (view spoiler)[the worst of them realize this, the worst of them DOUBLE DOWN and try to bully him enough to drop out (even though it would just slow down his growth, and with his ability he'd STILL be able to eclipse and retaliate against them maybe a year or two later。 The AI lets this happen to allow faster growth, but everyone else is apparetly just braindead。 (hide spoiler)]Many of these stories give the MC some cheat, but usually they aren't this blatant, or visible to other people。 If the characters or training were good enough it could make up for this, but I find the first bland, and eventually started skipping over fight scenes due to boredom。 I personally don't like tournament arcs, which is part of the issue (this is Tournament arc: The book。), but the training/growth was generic and just felt entirely un-earned。 Sure, he worked hard, but like many LITRPGs, it's mostly just "repeat the same action X times, or fight X enemies to level up。" Power growth just feels so divorced from what the character is doing, and the *interesting* part (IMO) where they actually learn something new is stripped away。 Numbers go up, sure, but that's it。 Compared to watching Zorian in Mother of Learning working through shaping exercises or experimenting with item crafting, it just feels so sterile and robotic。 I don't feel that rush whenever the MC gets stronger, because with the CADs, it doesn't really feel like he earned it or really overcame anything。In the movie "Click", the protagonist had a magic remote that would let him fast forward through parts of his life。 Eventually he ended up even skipping through things like Sex, or Golf。 He ended up in the same place in the end, sure, but for many things the important part is the journey, not the destination。 I feel like the that's the crux of the issue to me here。 。。。more

I listened to the newly release audiobook。 I can't recommend this book, and the audio version, enough。 From the incredibly detailed fight scenes to the more realistic school relationships, it's an interesting progression novel in a more science fiction setting that is still relatable current earth。 The audiobook was wonderful, with each character acted with consistency and a unique personality。 I listened to the newly release audiobook。 I can't recommend this book, and the audio version, enough。 From the incredibly detailed fight scenes to the more realistic school relationships, it's an interesting progression novel in a more science fiction setting that is still relatable current earth。 The audiobook was wonderful, with each character acted with consistency and a unique personality。 。。。more

It was really really good read。 I'm not much of a science fiction guy but I was hooked from the start。 It was 1000 pages long but it was really well paced, engrossing and the world was fascinating to learn more about - so I finished it in a day。。。heheheBut other than that, it's got all the good elements of a coming to age story that is well developed and fleshed out and I personally connected with Reidon! I loved the main theme of hard work and will power and how you can use that to tap into your potential and it's a very intriguing and important theme that I will still like to see being brought up continuously and developed。 Can't wait to see Reidon kick ass! I was also wishing for some romance and the sub-plot did not disappoint with natural romance (At least to me) and progression with no heavy denial by characters。 Slow burn but hey! We get progression on the right times before I had to yell in frustration and pull out my hairOther than that, I think this book was more of trying to set up Reidon, the characters and their relationships as well as the base foundation and premise of the story which is pretty good and reasonable。 I would have loved some more exposition and delving into the world of Warformed, the cities and stuff like that and background information on the entire War and how the Warformed Universe works! The authors hinted on that in the end so I look forward to that! And, another nitpicky thing is。。。the cliches I guess? Like the bad boy girl romance hints which is ehhh, I can look over it。 Good luck to Bryce and Luke, I look forward to how this story evolves and proceeds!! 。。。more

Lengthy but worth itA very nice read。 It got slower in the middle, but was still a page turner for me and well worth the effort。

Richard Crossan

Picked up on audible but wanted to put up a review here as well。 Beautifully written weak to strong story with a likable MC。 The additional characters are just as well written。 The combat system and action were fast paced and brutal。 Seriously hope the second book in this series comes out soon

This book was epically good。 Though have to say the ending had me worried for what will happen to Ray in the future。 It could be a decent thing or it could be something bad。 I wonder how the author will write it。

Great BookWell developed characters, story and interactions。 Too many bouts you may not care about, but we’ll worth the thousand pages of reading。 Looking forward to the next book in the series。

Really enjoyed this book and tore through it in just a few days。 Excellent value as I borrowed it through Prime Reading。 I really liked the development of Rei throughout the book and the whole idea of the CADs, very cool。 Love a school/academy setting, so this was great。 My only two criticisms is that by the end there are a lot of fight scenes and they go on for pages and pages, even ones involving characters that aren't important and don't come up again。 Aria is also a bit weird and like an ani Really enjoyed this book and tore through it in just a few days。 Excellent value as I borrowed it through Prime Reading。 I really liked the development of Rei throughout the book and the whole idea of the CADs, very cool。 Love a school/academy setting, so this was great。 My only two criticisms is that by the end there are a lot of fight scenes and they go on for pages and pages, even ones involving characters that aren't important and don't come up again。 Aria is also a bit weird and like an anime character - she's a fantastic fighter but she's always stuttering and blushing around Rei who, according to the book, isn't even particularly handsome。 。。。more

Great story with some rough edgesThe book should probably receive 4 stars, but I believe in the importance of supporting new authors。 Check this book out if it sounds even a little bit interesting, and don’t get lost in the exposition。

Definitely a page turner! It’s refreshing to read a story where the characters don’t disappoint。 Where their responses to situations are honest, genuine, even realistic, if I may use that term。 Thanks。

Meh, but better than "A Mark of Kings", good story, and everything is there, but it lacked over all depth of characters。 Will read the second one, but I am hoping for more。 Meh, but better than "A Mark of Kings", good story, and everything is there, but it lacked over all depth of characters。 Will read the second one, but I am hoping for more。 。。。more

This review is for the audible version, narrated by Luke Daniels。 Okay, I'm not that old, but at 52, this book was great entertainment。 At first, I thought it was a YA story and more of a Mortal Combat style of fiction - a video game brought to life or LitRPG - and I almost passed on it。 But it really wasn't。 There are stat and leveling-up portions, but those seemed extremely necessary and not like the RPG stats that annoy me when they are read ad nauseam in an audiobook。 Another reviewer used t This review is for the audible version, narrated by Luke Daniels。 Okay, I'm not that old, but at 52, this book was great entertainment。 At first, I thought it was a YA story and more of a Mortal Combat style of fiction - a video game brought to life or LitRPG - and I almost passed on it。 But it really wasn't。 There are stat and leveling-up portions, but those seemed extremely necessary and not like the RPG stats that annoy me when they are read ad nauseam in an audiobook。 Another reviewer used the term "magic system。" Get that picture out of your head completely。 There is no magic system, and this has zero elements of a fantasy book。 This features alien technology that humans have learned to harness。 It's as simple as that, and most of the story centers on the CAD (alien tech) and how it becomes symbiotic with the user。 I've also read some people write that there are shades of Ender's Game, but I don't see that at all。 At best, the similarities are that Rei is a teen, it's science fiction, and he improves as the story progresses。 He also has bullies and allies throughout - and it's a very nice balance of both。 Rei is nowhere near as cerebral, tactical, emotional, or as deep as Ender。 He's smart, but it's not the same。 Instead, it reminded me more of the Super Powered series by Drew Hayes (also excellent)。 As for the story, it was seamless despite two authors credited。 The character and world-building were outstanding。 The characters that needed backstories got them。 The secondary characters were consistent。 I suspect other major characters will be fleshed out more in sequels。 The dialog between characters was witty and realistic。 Even some of the teen angst didn't bother me despite my age, as I remember what those awkward feelings were like。 I even cracked a smile or two for some of it。 The combat, while detailed, did not linger so long as to become monotonous。 There was definitely some padding in the middle portions of the book, but I can see why it was needed。 Again, I never got bored, but it was okay to lose focus occasionally and not miss anything vital。 No spoilers, but the last 1/4 was very good。 Plenty of intrigue and tense build-up。 Some critics have said it was predictable。 Maybe, but most coming of age, hero stories are, and I knew that going in。 Seeing as this appears to be a series, I thought it was an excellent first book。 Even if you stop reading at the end of this story, it wrapped up nicely enough to be satisfying。 No frustrating cliffhangers, and for that, I thank the authors。 Best of all, at 34 hours of audio, it is an outstanding entertainment value。 Thank God they didn't break it into three or four smaller books。 I don't need to say anything about the narrator Luke Daniels。 I got hooked on him from the Ember Wars and Frontlines series of books years ago。 Outstanding as always。 I judge a book by how much I look forward to putting in my earbuds and continuing。 I found myself getting in the car to run errands or going to bed earlier just so I could listen。 That's how you get five stars from me。 Luke Chmilenko Bryce O'Connor 。。。more

Read immediately。 I stayed up until 4a my first two nights reading it and finished it 2 days later。 I don’t recommend that semi-manic COA, but it illustrates my point。This is my first review, because this book is the coolest。 I’ve been around the sci fi block (RR, Bobs, Isaac, Expanse, etc), and this premise will suck you in right from the start。 The creative, visual combat choreography and strategy brought me straight back to elementary school dragon ball z。The familiar hero’s journey and chara Read immediately。 I stayed up until 4a my first two nights reading it and finished it 2 days later。 I don’t recommend that semi-manic COA, but it illustrates my point。This is my first review, because this book is the coolest。 I’ve been around the sci fi block (RR, Bobs, Isaac, Expanse, etc), and this premise will suck you in right from the start。 The creative, visual combat choreography and strategy brought me straight back to elementary school dragon ball z。The familiar hero’s journey and characters are like your favorite Thai place on Sunday。 If anyone says otherwise, please kick that literary hardo directly in the nuts and/or vagine for me。I am writing this in part in the off chance a streaming or animation producer will see it。 Please pay these fine gentleman a boatload and make your commensurate bargeload。 If somehow in God’s green earth you manage to mess it up, I’ll forgive you if you take what you learned and try again soon。I have high hopes for this series, but have already gotten everything I could want out of it。 Reading again soon。 。。。more

5 star out of 5 This book was a real surprise for me, I didn't expect much from it but I enjoyed Iron Prince immensely。there were a few problems I could mention but the score I gave this book was purely based on enjoyment and what a fun and exciting ride this was。 “Luck comes to those who wait。 … Or those willing to get up and get shit done。” This is the story of Reidon Ward or Rei and his journey, the friends and the enemies he makes along with his journey, and his tenacity to fight for what 5 star out of 5 This book was a real surprise for me, I didn't expect much from it but I enjoyed Iron Prince immensely。there were a few problems I could mention but the score I gave this book was purely based on enjoyment and what a fun and exciting ride this was。 “Luck comes to those who wait。 … Or those willing to get up and get shit done。” This is the story of Reidon Ward or Rei and his journey, the friends and the enemies he makes along with his journey, and his tenacity to fight for what he wants。 the action scenes(which there are many) were done very well and the story progressed nicely and smoothly。I can't wait to read the second book。 。。。more

Pretty solid piece of progression sci-fi fantasy。 Love the magic system, really taken by the characters and I am more than anything excited to see what is to come with it。 I have got criticisms about some specific things that happen with characters in the book and I think sometimes the battle scenes between people who we don't really care about or have any context for could really drag on till they are incredibly boring and almost skip worthy。 The dialogue between the main characters is very fun Pretty solid piece of progression sci-fi fantasy。 Love the magic system, really taken by the characters and I am more than anything excited to see what is to come with it。 I have got criticisms about some specific things that happen with characters in the book and I think sometimes the battle scenes between people who we don't really care about or have any context for could really drag on till they are incredibly boring and almost skip worthy。 The dialogue between the main characters is very fun and honest, I find myself rooting for all the main characters as well which for me is the hallmark of a book I will enjoy (and what turns me off of some more dark fantasy with no likeable main characters)。 Overall about a 4/5 for me and I am excited to see how the story evolves。 。。。more
