Coming to terms with the fact that I am a very picky reader when it comes to Star Wars EU。 My bad。And Goodreads for the love of god the title of the book is on the picture of the freaking book。 Get it together。

This volume was expected to be called "Tarkin's Will" after the second arc, but Marvel renamed it more recently so this TPB has two entries now。It's issues 7-11。https://starwars。fandom。com/wiki/Star。。。 This volume was expected to be called "Tarkin's Will" after the second arc, but Marvel renamed it more recently so this TPB has two entries now。It's issues 7-11。https://starwars。fandom。com/wiki/Star。。。 。。。more

I liked this volume a lot。 It's been great to see more of an emphasis on Leia and Lando along with some very interesting side characters。 I definitely enjoy seeing a bit of the rebellion's darker side。 We know they've had to make some tough calls in the fight against the Empire and it's nice to see that firsthand! Mainline "Star Wars" comics can sometimes be less adventurous or interesting than the side story or miniseries offshoots (and indeed, I do miss my Doctor Aphra), but the increased focus on Lando and Lobot has made this volume a pleasure for me。 Lando was not a character I cared deeply about in the movies, but the comics have deepened his characterization and made Lobot into a person and not just a prop。 Plus, the Tarkin's Will fleet is awesome, and provides a great new antagonist for this phase。 Mainline "Star Wars" comics can sometimes be less adventurous or interesting than the side story or miniseries offshoots (and indeed, I do miss my Doctor Aphra), but the increased focus on Lando and Lobot has made this volume a pleasure for me。 Lando was not a character I cared deeply about in the movies, but the comics have deepened his characterization and made Lobot into a person and not just a prop。 Plus, the Tarkin's Will fleet is awesome, and provides a great new antagonist for this phase。 。。。more

Two volumes deep into Charles Soule’s rebooted “Star Wars” mainline series, and I think it’s fair to say that in both style and sensibility, this is a series that feels very finely attuned to the wants and predilections of its fervent fans。 Whether it’s showing us just how Lando went from being the swindler we met in “Empire” to the selfless hero he would become in “Return of the Jedi”; or watching Leia try to bring together the scattered Rebel forces after their defeat at Hoth, while also strug Two volumes deep into Charles Soule’s rebooted “Star Wars” mainline series, and I think it’s fair to say that in both style and sensibility, this is a series that feels very finely attuned to the wants and predilections of its fervent fans。 Whether it’s showing us just how Lando went from being the swindler we met in “Empire” to the selfless hero he would become in “Return of the Jedi”; or watching Leia try to bring together the scattered Rebel forces after their defeat at Hoth, while also struggling with the personal loss of losing Han; or even just letting us spend time with Luke as he picks up the pieces of his shattered self after his defeat at Vader’s hand and begins to move ever so slowly towards becoming the Jedi hero that we all know he’s destined to be… there’s enough here issue to issue - both on a story and character level - to keep “Star Wars” fans not just engaged, but actively hungry for more。 So yeah - more of this, please。 。。。more

In Tarkin's Will, we get to know Zahra, the imperial leader with a personal grudge and hatred towards Princess Leia, a bit better and we find out why she is so hellbent on destroying Leia personally。 The operation to gather the rebel fleet and rescue them, Operation Starlight, also begins, but as always in Star Wars, things don't go according to plan。 There's a lot of great stuff in this volume - funny moments, heartbreaking moments, sweet moments and some beautiful artwork to accompany them。I really liked getting to know more about Zahra。 She's not a super original or surprising character - her motives and her past with Tarkind didn't surprise me that much and it's a tale I think we've seen a lot before in Star Wars - but that didn't matter。 Actually, the fact that her story is very common - her past has a lot in common with Leia, for example - makes her character quite significant: there are people like her, people who have lost everything they had to this war, to brutal attacks and fights, on both sides。 Both sides have done terrible things and destroyed families。 Zahra's confrontation with Leia was also very intense and well written/drawn。One of my favorite aspects of this volume, was Lando's storyline。 Soule writes him very well and you can't just hear Billy Dee Williams's voice when reading Soule's dialogue for him。 Lando had to go through some tough shit in this story, and I think the way the volume left things with him (him (view spoiler)[ doubting if the Rebellion can protect him and Lobot, whom they used in this volume nearly to the death - honestly I can't blame Lando for kinda wondering if it's better to just ditch this bunch of zealots, as he calls them - and save his and his best friend, with him dealing with Jabba because of his doubts (hide spoiler)]) just makes me all the more intrigued to see how he eventually becomes the trusted general who volunteers to lead the Battle of Endor in Episode 6, because at this point in time, people don't trust him and he doesn't trust the Rebellion。 I also love his friendship with Lobot, and this volume had some incredible moments for the two of them - you really got to see how far Lando is willing to go to protect his friend。Smaller things I really enjoyed: Wedge appearing and being his cool self。 Shara Bey being her awesome, brave self and seeing her and Kes interact and be all in love - I love the two of them together so much。 Evaan Verlaine having a small role, as well as L'ulo Lampar。 I love how Soule brings in so many familiar characters not from just the films but also from other stories。It seems like Soule just can't get Star Wars wrong - everything I've read by him has been great and worthwhile。 He truly understands this universe and these characters, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for this story and this point in the timeline。 I'm giving this volume 4/5 stars, cause while I really enjoyed it, I think compared to the first one, which blew my socks off, this was less intense and less personal for me - the first volume was very much about Luke, who is my favorite character of all time, so naturally a story focused on him impacted me more and will stick with me in a unique way。 。。。more

Four star writing from Soule, but the art took a heavy downgrade, and the covers were quite misleading。Also hoping there is something more to differentiate Zahra from her Legends equivalent, Admiral Daala。 Still, this series is authentic to characters and in a good direction。

A forgettable plot with some confusing twists and "deaths" both real and (assumingly) imagined。 The premise of risking life and death to obtain an old language droid because the Alliance can't do cryptography was awkward。 Also not really interested in Tarkin's protégé, a pretty generic character, that just seems like a forced foil to Leia。 A forgettable plot with some confusing twists and "deaths" both real and (assumingly) imagined。 The premise of risking life and death to obtain an old language droid because the Alliance can't do cryptography was awkward。 Also not really interested in Tarkin's protégé, a pretty generic character, that just seems like a forced foil to Leia。 。。。more

Charles Soule does it again with this follow up volume from his initial 2020 run。 Proving once again that this era of the Star Wars canon has so much storytelling potential。 The post Hoth hunt for the rebels is in the right hands with Soule。 Star Wars is most interesting where the characters are shining and when it's invoking a deeper history。 Soule manages to do this brilliantly and couples it with some tension and excitement! Even with little focus on original trilogy characters, the two story arcs contained here are strong additions to the series。
