Ho letto questo libro in seguito a "Fahrenheit 451" e "1984"， e anche se sono consapevole che "Il mondo nuovo" è stato scritto prima （tant'è che nel saggio "Ritorno al mondo nuovo" lo stesso autore in alcuni punti opera un parallelismo fra il suo romanzo e "1984"）， io ho avuto l'impressione che non avesse nulla da aggiungere agli altri due romanzi， come se "Il mondo nuovo" fosse stato una bozza e "1984" e "Fahrenheit 451" l'opera d'arte completata。 A parte i primissimi capitoli， in cui veniamo i Ho letto questo libro in seguito a "Fahrenheit 451" e "1984"， e anche se sono consapevole che "Il mondo nuovo" è stato scritto prima （tant'è che nel saggio "Ritorno al mondo nuovo" lo stesso autore in alcuni punti opera un parallelismo fra il suo romanzo e "1984"）， io ho avuto l'impressione che non avesse nulla da aggiungere agli altri due romanzi， come se "Il mondo nuovo" fosse stato una bozza e "1984" e "Fahrenheit 451" l'opera d'arte completata。 A parte i primissimi capitoli， in cui veniamo introdotti al sistema delle caste e della riproduzione in serie degli esseri umani， che sono molto suggestivi e intriganti， il resto del romanzo mi è sembrato piatto e prevedibile， non mi ha trasmesso quasi nessuna emozione。 Non metto in dubbio il genio visionario di Huxley， che ha immaginato un futuro per certi aspetti molto simile alla nostra realtà attuale， ma da un punto di vista strettamente narrativo ed emotivo non sono proprio riuscita ad appassionarmi a questo libro。Certamente questo dipende dal fatto che il distopico è un genere che non mi piace， ogni tanto leggo qualcosa per curiosità， ma non mi appassiona， a eccezione di "Fahrenheit 451"， che è da sempre uno dei miei libri preferiti。 La trama mi è piaciuta fino alla parte ambientata a Malpais， che è quella che mi è piaciuta di più， ma poi è diventata prevedibile e noiosa， con l'unica eccezione del dibattito fra Mustafà e John。 Mi è piaciuta la descrizione del mondo nuovo， molto vivida e angosciante， e quella della società dei Selvaggi （gli zuñi se non sbaglio）， con i loro rituali e la loro cultura。 Inizialmente empatizzavo con Bernard e John， ma poi non ho compreso gli sviluppi finali del primo e la deriva estremistica del secondo （soprattutto non ho compreso perchè si sia arrabbiato così tanto per le profferte di Lenina）。 Avrei voluto un maggiore approfondimento di Mustafa， Helmholtz （il mio personaggio preferito） e Lenina。 Sarà che io amo i romanzi in cui viene realizzata una caratterizzazione dei personaggi profonda e accurata， cosa che viene a malapena fatta con John e Bernard， gli altri personaggi sono più delle macchiette che dei veri e propri personaggi di un romanzo。 Il saggio "Ritorno al mondo nuovo" non l'ho neanche terminato， ho letto qualche capitolo ma non mi piaceva e perciò preferisco lasciare perdere e passare ad altre letture。 。。。more

Honestly this is one of the most dry and boring books I’ve ever read。 I understand that it’s not a fantasy book or supposed to be entertaining but it was like eating sand and the chapters are so long because they have so many unnecessary descriptions， really I wouldn’t recommend at all :（

Non so bene se sono io o che。。。 di pescare tra i classici e pensare di tirare su solo carpe dorate e ritrovami con copertoni usati。 Forse non trovo io il fiume giusto o le mie esche sono andate a male， ma io credo che non c'è niente di peggio che mettersi a leggere un libro pensando di andare sul sicuro e poi ritrovarsi in mano delle alghe puzzolenti。Il mondo nuovo è stato scritto nel 1932 e beh non è che è poi tanto nuovo nel 2021 e neanche un usato sicuro a dire il vero， più che altro è invecc Non so bene se sono io o che。。。 di pescare tra i classici e pensare di tirare su solo carpe dorate e ritrovami con copertoni usati。 Forse non trovo io il fiume giusto o le mie esche sono andate a male， ma io credo che non c'è niente di peggio che mettersi a leggere un libro pensando di andare sul sicuro e poi ritrovarsi in mano delle alghe puzzolenti。Il mondo nuovo è stato scritto nel 1932 e beh non è che è poi tanto nuovo nel 2021 e neanche un usato sicuro a dire il vero， più che altro è invecchiato male。。。 Ritorno al mondo nuovo è del 1958 e qui molti spunti ci sono e si capisce che l'autore da il meglio di sé come saggista， ma anche qui quanto scritto， a parte alcune idee di fondo， sono state travolte dalla caduta del comunismo e dall'arrivo di internet che fa sembrare quanto scritto dall'autore sulla televisione e la stampa praticamente appartenente ad un'altra era geologica。Per tornare al romanzo， si sentono tutti i suoi quasi cent'anni e sembra di aver già letto （e visto） ripetutamente di utopie negative del futuro， dove le masse sono controllate attraverso vari sistemi più o meno originali， con scopi più o meno malvagi （e in ogni caso 1984 o Fahrenheit 451 sono su un altro livello， per citare altri classici da paragone）; qui la popolazione non viene tiranneggiata con la repressione e la violenza ma stordita con giochi， soddisfazioni materiali， sesso libero e una droga che ottenebra la mente con sogni fantastici e viaggi mentali， sembra di vedere una sorta di impero romano portato nel futuro。Una divisione in classi， una popolazione allevata in provette， un predisposizione genetica e un addestramento mentale dalla nascita impartito mediante varie tecnologie che inquadrano le persone a secondo della loro funzione predestinata da un'oligarchia che governa e professa una stabilità demografica dove tutti sono felici （anche nelle caste inferiori perché programmate geneticamente ad accettarlo）， tutto molto interessante sembrerebbe。。。 solo che。。。 che la storia e i personaggi sono davvero un disastro totale。。。 i protagonisti mi sembrano recitare una parte （da cani per giunta） dove più che sembrare reali sembrano semplicemente professare e divulgare le idee dell'autore。 Oltretutto molti si muovono e pensano （una pagina in un modo e in un'altra in tutt'altro） in maniera incoerente e quasi a caso come se più che essere chi conduce la storia ne siano completamente alieni; ma veniamo al personaggio principale: John， il "Selvaggio"， che viene trovato per caso in una "riserva" di non "civilizzati" e catapultato nella Londra del futuro: pensate un po' si ribellerà e finirà male， caspita che trovata geniale！ Un Tarzan del futuro che per lo più cita Shakespeare， puritano e moralista， che manco si toglie lo sfizio di consumare un coito per il piacere almeno dei lettori。。。 macchè giù a flagellarsi la schiena con la frusta a nove code come nel peggior periodo nero del Medioevo （ma perchè？！ ma che c'entra？！）。Più che un romanzo， un saggio mascherato， ma soprattutto una noia che dimostra tutti i suoi cent'anni e a mio discapito posso dire che trovo molto più attuali e leggibili che so。。。 Dostoevskij， Tolstoj e Dumas。 。。。more

I only read BNW and did not read BNWR， for the sake of time。 I skimmed the first chapter of Revisited and although it seemed like a moderately interesting read， it was more like an essay， and I wasn’t feeling it。 BNW was a new concept; similar to 1984 in that it built a utopian society that didn’t truly “spark joy” for some of the citizens of this new world。 The sections involving baby-designing were interesting but highly scientific， so it felt a little science-heavy for me。 I also had to check I only read BNW and did not read BNWR， for the sake of time。 I skimmed the first chapter of Revisited and although it seemed like a moderately interesting read， it was more like an essay， and I wasn’t feeling it。 BNW was a new concept; similar to 1984 in that it built a utopian society that didn’t truly “spark joy” for some of the citizens of this new world。 The sections involving baby-designing were interesting but highly scientific， so it felt a little science-heavy for me。 I also had to check out the YouTube video on SparkNotes at one point because I didn’t know what I was reading。 Huxley shifted dialogues between characters and I got confused and could hardly follow the plot line for a little bit。Overall， not a regretful read， but won’t likely read it again。 。。。more

4。0 stars。 Quite enjoyed the world building。 It was not hamfisted and allowed for the reader to truest appreciate the detail。 The book felt like a strong dystopian fiction outside of the savage， other then his interaction with the controller which I enjoyed a lot。 Was the savage just a way to show that reading is important？ Or that religion and the believe in god is a a way to develop a stronger moral foundation？ Would recommend this book， but feels like it is one chapter too long。

Whoa…what in the world？！ Somehow this book was written in 1932， yet strangely feels like it could have been written yesterday。 In a Brave New World， Huxley imagines what a world would look like where individualism is gone， everyone is happy all the time， and decisions are made for us。 It’s a bleak world – one I hope to never see – yet there are so many similarities to our current reality that it literally scares me！ Genetic modification is totally a thing and people are born into their hierarchy Whoa…what in the world？！ Somehow this book was written in 1932， yet strangely feels like it could have been written yesterday。 In a Brave New World， Huxley imagines what a world would look like where individualism is gone， everyone is happy all the time， and decisions are made for us。 It’s a bleak world – one I hope to never see – yet there are so many similarities to our current reality that it literally scares me！ Genetic modification is totally a thing and people are born into their hierarchy class， and because they don’t know any different， everybody is strangely okay with the roles their born into。 Families do not exist and sexual promiscuity is rampant。I’ve heard so many references to Brave New World in the media recently that it was just the motivation I needed to pick the book up。 I’m glad I finally read it （and it helped fulfill 1 of the 12 modern classics I’ve picked out to try and tackle this year）， but I really hope Huxley’s predictions stay firmly in the fiction/dystopia genre！ 。。。more
